First let me say, I don't think he will retire and will be the QB next year. However, IF he were to retire, who would be his replacement? Jones clearly isn't the answer, I'm not even sure why he's on the roster. This roster is built to win now, not rebuild so that means we need to bring in an established QB. I've seen Cousins's name bounced around other places, but I don't think he will be available, the Redskins will lock him up. Kaepernick will be out there, but he just brings too much baggage, no way he comes here (then again, Vick did so who knows).

So where do they turn? I hear Rivers wants out, he's still got tread on his tires. The fact is, it's a pretty bad QB market to be trying to find Ben's replacement.

If I was Ben I'd feel the same way. There is no future direction under this coaching staff, why should he bother? If he does retire Tomlin will actually have to prepare for games. This ought to be good.

In the Rivers scenario, what sucks is that he just signed a big contract extension through 2019. What would have been nice there is if he was about to be a free agent and just wanted a ring. Could have maybe gotten him for 8-10 million

Ben isn't retiring. It's just Ben being Ben. He thrives on drama. Our future QB isn't on our roster. If Ben were to retire this year, we'd likely bring in a journeyman type QB and roll with him. Rivers would be a great win now QB, but he's not leaving SD. Cousins isn't leaving Washington either.

    We need to draft someone

Terry Bradshaw was barely 35 when he retired. I realize it was due to an elbow injury, but Ben has sustained a lot of pounding over the years, knees, ankle, head, rib/lung (that one could have been fatal). He's also the bionic man after the way he was put back together after his motorcycle accident.

He recently said he wanted his kids to play golf and not football. He's thinking about his kids and his wife and life after football. He hears about all of the CTE stuff. The end may be closer than any of us think.

This has nothing to do with "drama." He's trying to get the front office to wake the hell up and realize that there are issues in the locker room and things need to change!

Draft and sign a FA QB. That is what you can do.

A young QB could come in here have success, the roster is set up for it.

A lot like Ben had in 2004.

But, he isn't retiring, I would be shocked. I think it's Ben being Ben with his talk.

I agree, this is the franchise QB flexing his franchise QB muscles, which is not unusual for any major QB around the league. As I said, I don't think Ben is leaving. HOWEVER IF he does, where do we turn? I don't think drafting a rookie is going to work out well. Sure, Prescot did a great job in Dallas, but what are the odds we can grab that type of QB in the 1st or 2nd round? Trublsky? Mahomes?

    Tony Romo.

Ben is just pissed is all. his team was 1 win away from the super bowl. he said he thinks the young guys didnt perform. the moment was too big for them. this is a pretty young team so hes talking to pretty much all of them. his Oline, James, Rogers (minus the fumble) and Williams all showed up to play. the rest of his playmakers failed him.

AB no where to be seen, Bell got hurt, his young wrs dropped passes all day and the coaching staff failed.

i personally think that him saying hes thinking about retiring is a direct shot at the coaching staff and front office.

I've been saying retirement is closer than what you would think all year. I still think he plays in 2017, but after that I have serious doubts. This just confirms the gut feeling I had.

Will definitely have to keep a closer watch on the QBs for this '17 draft. I wanted them to wait until 2018, but that may not be an option now. We also lose our 6th round pick in 2018 for the Justin Gilbert trade so maybe this year will be better???

    I would sign romo.
I would literally laugh my ass off if he would end up winning a ring vs his old team in the SB

Jaguars seem pretty disgruntled with Blake Bortles. Could he be an option. Big Ben like in stature. Could get him and a draft pick to develop.

If Ben is thinking like this now, what happens if the team begins to stink mid season, does he pack it in? ( at least it would mean a higher draft pick for a QB)

this is BS how are people jumping down my throat about Colin ( who's a much better and healthier QB than Romo) and this comment has zero X's. I'm kneeling down to protest until he has disagreements too. :whistley:

I for one do NOT believe Landry Jones will be Ben's successor (at least I pray not).

Kind of funny...I was just telling my father the other day that there has been times this year where it seemed to me like Ben was playing like a QB that was thinking about life after football rather than a guy that had 3-5 years left in him. I can understand that knowing the beating he has taken over the years and I don't think it will happen this year but the front office had better plan on getting his replacement soon or we're going back to the Cliff Stout, Bubby Brister, Mark Malone days.

I'd be happy with Bortles. He won't break the bank when his contract is up and I think with some coaching and a new environment, he could be a solid QB.

FOR THE RECORD: I have no doubt Ben will be back. Just playing along

Bellichick makes all coaches look bad. His Super Bowl wins are against GREAT coaches. Didn't hear Hawks fans wanting Pete fired. What about Dick Vermeal? The Rams had the best offense in history and Bellichick made them look average.

Honestly I think he is just voicing his frustration about what has gone on lately. He is griping about the play calling, the lack of experience and throughout the season the accountability. I love Ben and what he has brought to this franchise but I see room for improvement in his game as well, including the many mental mistakes he has made too himself and he's not a rookie. Most of these problems can be solved by leadership from the top down and he's pretty high on the totem pole. I don't take much from what a player says a day or two after a tough loss in a championship game. I hope it was a shot across the bow and serious changes are made in every aspect of preparation, discipline and accountability.

I think it was Martz for the Rams, but you're point is still valid
