I don't blame him. I think he senses this team and/or coaching staff doesn't have what it takes to make a legit SB run.

Realistically, they should have been trying to findBen's replacement already (another coaching fallacy).

If he stays, I'm cool. If he leaves, I'm cool. Why ? We could pick up Aaron Rogers and this coaching staff would still "find a way to lose in humiliating fashion".

    So, I'm cool either way

You guys know me. You guys know that my own flesh and blood is named after Ben. You guys ALSO know that I'm the biggest Haley apologist in Steeler Nation. BUT if it comes to Ben or Haley I'm taking Ben 6 days a week and twice on Sundays. If Ben wants a return to the old school defense we grew up on then let Butler OR Tomlin go if they refuse to oblige. We know that Ben is a once in a lifetime qb and these days that is a rarity. I'm just saying I want Ben here and whatever changes need to be made need to be made.

Had BA hung around Ben would have been forced into retirement 2 years ago with the pounding he was taking in BA's offense.

Should 2016 have been his final year then so be it. There is nothing any of us can do to detract him from going through with retirement.

Troy was pondering much of the same scenario in 2014 and ended up doing so.

Not saying Ben will but we at least have an idea or even know when Ben is going to call it a career. That being said, it is time to find out what type of team we field come 2017... which is only less than eight months away.

I'm reminded a bit of 04 when Bettis was set to retire, and Ben talked him out of it with a "we'll win it next year" thing. Maybe there's a similar thing going here.

I agree totally. I'm just guessing like we all are as to what he might be sick of. Maybe he feels a little hamstrung. Also maybe he's sick of scrubs on d. Is MITCHELL the heir apparent to Troy? Is JARVIS the great backer we expect in Pittsburgh? Is soft zone good enough to beat the greatest. Ben would have had even BETTER numbers against our d the other day probably. I just wonder if he isn't ticked over the same things we are.

Colin doesn't look like the QB from a few years ago because that team got blown up, there's nobody left including the coaches. He's got the size , toughness, runs and a canon of an arm to play for the Steelers. He would inject new life into this offence. If Ben goes which I doubt he will , Steelers don't have the time to groom a new QB from the draft ( the way they brings guys along) , Jones is garbage.

Ben and Harrison retire next year. Doubt we get #7 though. Zone defense will stop us from advancing

Ben can see the writing on the wall. The pats will continue to steamroll the AFC, there's really nobody but us standing in their way and this team from the coaches down has been a mess. I think he will retire if there aren't any scheme/personnel/culture changes.

Maybe Brown, Bell, or even Harrison will give him a "talk" just like Bettis and Ben did. That's a great point and I hope that it comes true.

This team makes me wonder sometimes. If our QB is contemplating retirement at 34 with a history of hits and injuries, then it makes sense. But, with the current team that we have now, it's not worth it. Brown and Bell are young and this is not what they want to hear right now. Who knows if they'll win a SB ring if Ben retires this offseason. At least we have a young defense that has the potential to grow.

Jones is not a capable starter and he needs to have competition in the preseason with a rookie or veteran QB to see if he's really legit. Even then, everyone who said that we need to draft or sign a QB was right. Ben is 34 years old. If you look at what he's gone through ever since he got drafted in 2004, then you can be the judge of that.

I just hope that he gets another ring before he retires, it'll be a shame if his last NFL game was a loss to the Patriots in the AFC championship. All we can do is wait and pray that he stays for a little while longer...

On an extra note, he could just be upset over the following: a loss in the AFC championship game, AB's Facebook video, immaturity with the rookies and young players, coaching, etc.

Ben probably wants to play catch with his kid one day, I can't blame him for thinking about it.

He is also looking around and all his friends are gone from the team like Heath Miller and Brett Keisel, and then he looks around at young divas with Facebook lifestream on his phone or guys getting suspended left and right.... I'm sure he is like "WTF am I doing here?"

I think he plays at least one more year for sure. I don't doubt that he'll "think" about retirement. But I do doubt that he takes a net 30 million dollar loss (salary and returned signing bonus money), to retire a year after an AFC Game and a good run.

Most likely, he's putting pressure on the front office/ownership... "it's now or never, i could walk away at any time".... And exercising he's penchant for the dramatic
