I guess one reading of what Cockerill meant is that guys were trying a little too hard to make plays and botching assignments as a result. Certainly that's been the issue with special teams this year.

Yes, that's the case Butler was calling it as well.

This would be my interpretation, as well.

Yes this. Looking into the backfield to see if it's a run and getting caught out of position. Guessing where the play is going and leaving their gap. They have trust now and rely on each other.

It probably as others mentioned trying to do too much and not trusting your teammates to do their job. Toughest thing in coaching is convincing a person to only do their job, instead of always trying to help out your teammate. In some cases you end up hurting the team by trying to help, as backwards as that sounds.

At least they got it corrected against the likes of Cleveland when they did.

Ever since then, this defense has been playing with a championship resolve.

In terms of matching that, the offense (or more specifically Ben) has to do the same. Even if it is in the fourth quarter or one quarter of "Good Ben", Ben has to play better.

The Oline will do this at the strangest times and they got lucky it didn't end up hurting them. One time Pouncey left his spot because had no one to block and worked over to help Gilbert leaving a gaping hole in front of Ben who luckily got rid if the ball. Same game Hubbard in as extra blocker had no one to hit so he helped AV but knocked him to the ground and off his block in the process. Sometimes helping can hurt lol.

I think Dupree and Shazier getting healthy and J Jones getting benched played a part in the defense coming together too.
Maybe not the benching of Jones as much as the rebirth of Harrison.

Ben has heard the comparisons of the remaining 4 QBs and how many people paint the picture of 3 being pretty close and Ben being just a little less because of injures, etc. I think Ben will respond to that BS by having a monster game with 300 plus yards, 2 or 3 TDs and no interceptions to show he is the top dog for now. Time for Ben to shine.

Ben should be able to. Outside of Malcolm Butler I really do not see many tier one threats in Matt Patricia's defensive secondary.

McCourty is a ball hawking beast.

I do not think that 1 takeaway quantifies as a phenom in ball hawking unless teams generally do not attempt to pass within his vicinity.

So he played bad this year? That's actually good to know. He's a dude that I wished the Steelers could have picked up when he was in free agency. I didn't realize he had an off year. I've really not hardly watched the pats that much this year and was going off how good he had been in the past.

I would not necessarily say he is playing bad. I believe that, due to the various ways he can be utilized explains his lack of production.

Keep in mind that Belichick loves players who can fill more than one role. McCourty fits that to the tee for him. As such, it is generally not easy to throw against a player who is that versatile in his skillset.

Oddly, though, that mentality can be precisely what violates the "just do your job, don't overreach" ethos.

It is Ben's job to have a monster game when it is needed and its all on the line IMO.
