I love how lost it is on some people... Mike Tomlin is part of the reason Ben is likely headed to tha HOF

    But I'll play along...

Brees/Payton missed the playoffs the last 5 years, and only has 2 wins in the last 7 years

Eli/Coughlin has one super bowl in the previous 7 years, and missed the playoffs the 6 other times (until this year)

The narrative about the last 6 years doesn't fairly take in to account the rebuild. Again, it's what Tomlin haters create as a narrative to prove that they are stupid.

Noll, and the Steeler organization as a whole, did not understand the importance of the QB position and that would be my explanation for the championship drought IMO. They were stuck in the defense first mentality and all you need after that is a QB that manages the ball and does not have to be elite. I was sick of the lousy to mediocre QB`s we suffered with though the 80`s and 90`s and early 2000`s. Neil O`Donnel was the best "manager" we found during that time, but good was not good enough. It`s a shame Miami planted that story about Marino doing weed so we would not draft him. We would have had at least two more S.B`s had we drafted him.

Once the rules started changing in the 70`s, it favored passing the ball. Fortunately for us, Bradshaw matured from a manager to an elite QB just in time when just defense alone could not win the Super Bowl anymore.

I don't agree that the Steelers and Noll didn't understand the value of the QB position, thats a bit insulting to very smart football people like Noll and the Rooneys. Its just very hard to find franchise QB's.

As for Marino, Rooney wanted him, and they would have drafted him until he was overruled when the front office learned a writer was influencing his opinion of Marino.
