I was looking at the Unrestricted Free Agent list for 2017 today just for the fun of it. And I took some notes that I thought I would share with you all. And will add some "hmmmmm" comments, because thats what Guru's do, they make you hum.:hehehe:

Captain Munnerlyn, age 28, CB Minnesota, earned 3.7 million this year.
I like this guy, I'd offer him a 5 year deal for 23 million and see if he takes it. We could use a "very good" veteran CB.

Morris Claiborne, age 26, CB Dallas, earned 3.0 million this year.
I like this guy, I'd offer him a 5 year deal for 25 million and see if he takes it. We could use a "very good" veteran CB.

Dre Kirkpatrick, age 27, CB Bungles, earned 2.1 million this year.
I like this guy, I'd offer him a 5 year deal for 20 million and see if he takes it. We could use a "very good" veteran CB.

Dontari Poe, age 26, DT Kansas City, earned 2.8 million this year.
I like this gorilla, I'd offer him a 6 year deal for 35 million. He really gets it done.

Devin Still, age 27, DT Houston, earned 675K this year.
I liked this guy coming out of College and hoped the Steelers would grab him. He plays Steeler ball.
I would offer this guy a 6 year deal for 30 million. Plus 5 million to sign.

DeAngelo Williams contract is up, and he made 2 million this year, he only has 1 or 2 years left. If we re-sign Bell, we will need a guy thats capable to fill in if Bell gets hurt, and maybe make some plays to give Bell a rest. There are some very interesting FA's that would be a good replacment for Williams if we can't sign him. I wouldn't give Williams a raise, 2 million is plenty for a guy who might sit for the next year or two, or get in a little playing time.
My intent isn't to find a franchise RB, but rather a guy to replace DeAngelo if he bolts. There are 3 guys who could be just as effective as Williams.

Darren McFadden, age 29, RB Dallas.
I liked McFadden since College. He is still young enough, and lightly used. He can give you a LeVeon Bell like performance any week. If Bell gets hurt and misses a month of so, Run D Mc or D Mac can give you some terrific games. I'd offer him a 3 year 7.5 million dollar deal to back up Bell, and fill in for Bell if he gets hurt for a month or more.

Latavius Murray, age 25, RB Oakland. Earned 566k this year.
Every time I watched Oakland this year, Murray caught my eye. He looks exactly like Bell when he runs the ball. He doesn't get a lot of carries, but Oaklands run blocking leaves much to be desired. This guy would be one that I'd try real hard to land if a deal isn't worked out with Bell.
I really like Murray. Whoever signs him is gonna strike gold.

Chris Johnson and Reggie Bush are free agents this year, and both are 31 and earned 1.5 million this year. If we can't sign DeAngelo, then one of these guys would be just as good as any we got to back up Bell now.

According to the website I used, Landry Jones and Bruce Gradkowski are both FA's as well. There are about 15 FA agent QB's but I wouldn't even consider any of them for a backup. We are going to have to look to the draft for a good backup QB. Someone might take a flyer on Jones to start, and we could lose him. Geno Smith is probably the only FA QB we could land.

That's it for now. Thank me later.

I think steelers are pretty set at CB they need to re-sign cockrell. Cockrell, Burns, Gay, Gilbert, Golson (if he ever stays healthy). The D line is set too with Heyward, Hargrave, and Tuitt. They could use some depth guys though. Steelers biggest need on defense is an outside LB to pair with Dupree as James Harrison is gonna age at some point. Also If Timmons goes they need some inside LB depth.

I think the Raiders will probably hold on to Murray. Should we win the Super bowl, DWill should sign on the cheap to stay. If we don't, DWill should sign on the cheap for the opportunity to do so.

Talking about 2017. I saw a scroll at the bottom of my screen yesterday while on the NFL channel that everyone`s 2017 schedule is set and it was available at NFL.com, but I could not find it.

Does not bring up possible EDGE rushing candidates like Nick Perry?

    Intriguing.

Don't think KC let's Poe leave, but that would be a major coup if Colbert gets him signed.

Question... Poe and Kirkpatrick + Pay Bell and make AB honor his contract then tag him or Pay Bell and AB and no FA.

Sorry but I'm taking above average CB and DT NOW and hopefully draft some young talent that can help right away. Gives us a 2 year window with AB. Bet we win 1 if not 2 Super Bowls in that time.

Sure. How much are you willing to chip in to pay his signing bonus?

Reggie Bush ended the season with -3 rushing yards. I'm good without him.

Those guys OP listed will either be too expensive or are washed up, not interested in any of them.

Quality edge rushers are hard to find. And way over-priced. We'd be better to go to a 4-3, another Lloyd, Greene, or Porter ain't comin our way any time soon.
I rather see us go 4-3 and gap blitz LB's.

Willie Gay might be done, and I'd like to see us get a young quality vet CB like the ones i suggested. And one young quality veteran DL.

And we need a quality guy to backup Bell in case he goes down for month or more. Or misses a game or two.

That's a shame that he is the only gettable backup QB out there that can half-ass play.

Poe or Still would be great. Kirkpatrick or Claiborne would be great too.
And McFadden or Murray would be good too.

i'm thinking Gay might be spent, D Williams may exit, and we could use a CB listed, and a Poe or Still would really work well.

Other than that we can draft depth and develop talent.

If Golson can play he'll replace Gay. If not they'll need to draft or get a FA. We also have Justin Gilbert so may not be a need to draft a CB early.

I agree most of those FAs will be too expensive.

But, I'm interested about the Deangelo Williams question. Will he take the same deal again, or less? He seems to like being a Steeler...

If not - do we stick with the young guys we have (Toussaint, Brown-Dukes, Smith)? Is it worth drafting an RB purely as a back up, a la Landry Jones?

And what do they do with Hargrave? Personally I like Hargrave's game and he will only get better. Poe has been part of their run defense ills. You will see when they we play KC.

I'd really like to Steelers to draft James Connor RB from Pitt. He would be an awesome supplement to Bell. Plus he knows Heinz field well playing at Pitt, and he's from Erie, PA. He's a wonderful character person too, beat Hodgkin's disease (cancer) and everything. Good Power back with decent enough speed.

From the sounds of what I'm reading he's a 4th-5th round draft choice, more than likely.

Keep what we have, add a couple of solid depth FAs, and draft well @ OLB.

If he doesn't take the deal it will actually be a good thing because it will finally let us get Steven Jackson so we can definitely win another Super Bowl or 6.
