When I lived in Denver I would go to the AVs games when the Pens were in town and a quarter to half of the crowd were Pens fans. And I also see way more Pens gear on people compared to Pirates when I'm in different cities working, etc. I know the OP asked about Pittsburgh but I was just throwing that out there.

Yeah a few months ago I met a family of people wearing Pirates jerseys and I said "I'm assuming you guys are all Steeler fans too right?" and the dad said "Oh big time but actually I wanted my little boy to be named Crosby and my little girl to be named Sydney but my wife said no so his name is Bradshaw and her name is Bleier". LOL! I was like "well my little boy is named Ben but my wife said we also could have named him Harrison but Steeler names were off limits for my little girl". One out of two aint bad though.

Yes, the Pirates went to the Playoffs 2 straight seasons, but were done early both times*. Right before that, it was something like 21 consecutive losing seasons. Once I took a tour at Pittsburgh, and these guys were saying that the Pirates had the longest consecutive losing-season streak in the history of Major sports (not sure if it was only US or in the World), so you get the idea!

*Last season was a bit disapponting. MLB has no salary cap, and the Pirates are considered among the teams that spend the least on their rosters.

It's because their shameful and disappointing owner (Bob Nutting) only cares about himself and his money. So frustrating. He has so much money he doesn't know what to do with it. He owns the Buccos, Seven Springs Ski Resort, which is huge, and Wheeling, WV's Ogden Newspapers.

I've always hoped that Lemieux and the Rooney's would split the cost and buy them from the Nuttings... HA WISHFUL THINKING.

This. I wish they would have let Cuban buy the team when he wanted. The Buccos would probably have the highest payroll in baseball right now.

I would to, I like the Pirates. They have some good talent being wasted. They have Cole, Khul, Taillon, McCutchen, Marte, and Palanco. If they added a big bat and a decent starter I think they could make a playoff run. If they added to that they'd be good but the FO budget is like $40 million. When you have the Cubs and Cards in your division you can't win with that budget.

Love it! Praying Nutting doesn't trade him for cash and a bunch of crappy prospect players per usual. He has a bright future!

That was my impression too. People and places were all showing their Steelers pride, everywhere you looked. And all you heard people talking about was the game later that day.

    It was pretty cool.

About 3 years ago we were leaving Pittsburgh to travel back home on a Sunday morning before the Steelers were about to play the Ravens at a 1 pm kick off. As we were leaving town and my wife looked over at a church and there were at least a dozen people, mostly kids with their parents going into the church wearing Steelers jerseys. My wife said would you get a load of this? I said what and she pointed them out. I just said it's a big game today.

She couldn't believe people would wear Steelers gear to church.

Yep, it's true. At my church, our priest doesn't have a sermon, or has an abbreviated one, during the10:00 AM Mass. He wants to get out and ready for the game, too! If you go to the 8:00 AM Mass or Saturday night Mass, you're gonna hear it, though. :lolol:
