Our defense is getting there. We have two rookies starting in the secondary. Rumor has it the Ravens are planning to cut Dumerville. Get an edge rusher next year in free agency that can at least tickle double digit sacks and look out.

I thought you were going to say the trend was a slow start by the offense.

The defense is what it is. The offense is supposed to be our strong point and too many times it takes too long to warm up.

I think we'll win, but Miami has kicked our overconfident and underprepared BUTTS the last two times we've played them, including one time in a freaking blizzard! We'd better be ready or the Steelers will be enjoying the divisional round from the comfort of their recliners!

Some people get their hearts broken before the team even steps onto the field.

I can comfortably make one easy prediction: at some point, Miami's offense will make a few plays and someone will say something brilliant like "our defense is making Matt Moore look like Montana," or "our defense is making Ajayi look like Jim Brown." Some folks forget that there are paid, professional football players on both side of the field, and complete thrashings are not common in the NFL. It will not be a cakewalk, but after 60 minutes of football I'm pretty darn confident we'll be on top by 10+ points, and I'm not going to care one bit about the stats and whether we gave up "X" yards or only had "Y" sacks.

I know and it's not normal.
I'm not saying it has to be all happiness all the time, but some of these fans make it unfun for others. Somehow I think that may be the goal?

There might be one or two who have slipped in. Definitely a couple Steelers fans who just find it amusing to troll.

Some are just guys who like discussing the details of the game and like to keep things in perspective. They sometimes bring up some shortcomings that sometimes we don't want to hear.
Mostly it's just a handful of insecure miserable fans who drag everyone around them down with their misery.

What does Dumervil have to do with anything? Are you suggesting that the steelers sign him? That would be ludicrous as he is a poor mans James Harrison.

Elvis will be 33 next year. If we could afford him I'd take him. He played through a foot injury this year so he was never 100% but he says he will be next year. A poor mans James Harrison is welcome IMO if we can get one. Harrison may not be back next year.Dupree and Dumervl wouldn't bother me one bit

    Agree.
He may be able to help, but for what he'll command in pay we'd be much better off getting a young player with some serious upside that we can develop. Heck I'd rather have J.J. back over Dumbville

I'm 50... oh, you're talking about a different Elvis. Carry on.

Seriously though, I think he may have another good year or 2 in him as a part time situational rusher if he gets healthy. I haven't even thought of what his market value will be as a 33 year old coming off a tough season, but it may be pretty reasonable.

Terry Bradshaw has got a point. Year after year why are we losing to teams we should beat?? And why is performing the fundamentals lacking & mistakes increasing every year?? If you know our pass rush suck, then why don't he encourage them to try to block passes thrown by QBs?? Because if your worthless getting to a QB, be useful in obstructing his throwing lane. Tomlin consistently allow Big Ben to waste time outs early in 3rd quarters. I rather take a 5 yard penalty & have my 3 TO's at the end of games.

We miss tackle after tackle after tackle consistently. Notice how rare it is to see 1 Steeler successfully make a solo tackle, you'll notice it takes 2 or more. Look if your not gonna compete at the line of scrimmage playing way off & let guys catch balls, it's critical to be a good tacking team. If you know your not a good tackling team, then we should try to prevent guys from catching the ball...

Offensively, it's frustrating to see an empty backfield in the redzone because you know Ben is not a threat to run. An empty backfield is making defending us easier because you don't have to worry about the run. Would love to see more play-action passing...

Obviously this stuff doesn't matter. We won the Division and made the playoffs.

I guess it depends on the price tag. Would you want him if JH plays another year?

Dumerville got game, and plays like a Steeler.
And I've been 33, although that was 33 some odd years ago, so I think Dumerville has at least 3 good years left.
If we can get him for 3 years at 5m a year, I'd say take him. Just slap him in the facemask and grab him by the collar and say "rush the quarterback, hear me, rush the quarterback"!

No I'll take Harrison if it comes down to that. It will probably be the cheaper option to keep 92 and develop that next guy but it puts a lot of pressure on Dupree to be our main pass rusher. I'm just as big a Harrison fan as anyone but he's not 33 anymore. And I was just tossing around a name when I mentioned Dumervil. With all the talent on this team you will probably see some veteran free agents showing interest to play here for a little less money and a chance to go out on top with a ring.

Honestly the only shutdown D I see right now are the Giants. There are so many bend but don't break defenses now. League is a offense/splash play league now

Browns with all our stars out for one of the games... Bills and Bengals were both still statistically not eliminated from playoff contention at the time we played them and we won on the road (beat desperate teams on their home filed). Not that the Bills or Bengals are great teams, they just aren't "show up and win" games. Obviously the Ravens would have been a playoff team had they beaten us and it is our biggest rivalry game of the year. I'm not saying it's a tough stretch, but it's not like that schedule is cake.

    Who cares about style points?

Well the Pats game was a relatively competitive game with our back up QB in... we sucked against Miami. Ravens was Ben coming back too soon (and sucking horribly) and we lost by a TD. And the cowboys game was a great game, we just lost to a good team.

You know the Chiefs (who we absolutely steamrolled) are the 2 seed in the AFC right now? But we don't get credit for that lol

It has so much less to do wittt he quality of the opponents than it does with the journey of the team. We were super inconsistent early in the year losing big a couple games and winning big in others. We lost Ben and tried to rush him back and lost a few in a row. Then we rallied together to run the last 7 to win the division. Winning builds confidence. I like our chances this post season with a mostly healthy team that has all its stars available for a change.
