I think he has been a tremendous surprise being a guy coming up from the practice squad and taking advantage of a pretty good opportunity. He is a guy that I have confidence in Ben throwing him the ball if a big play is needed. He has been good on 3rd downs all season long and I expect him to come up big in the playoffs when they call his number.

Hamilton, Rogers, ayers, heyward bey, Coates, bryant, brown...... it's a pretty foregone conclusion that wheaton is gone, and even so, it's gonna be an interesting competition next yr.

Every catch he's had this year has been clutch. So many 3rd down receptions. And not to mention the game winner vs clowns.

I feel like Ben looks for him on 3rd downs.

Like Hamilton but I can't see him making the 53 next year, he'll be a practice squad lock. Ayers will replace Wheaton next year, he's cheaper & younger. Really not impressed with Sammy Coates. I hope 2017 WR's will be Brown, Bryant, Rogers, Ayers, Heyward-Bey. We should trade Coates to fill other needs...

Unless you're getting a top 3 rounds pick for a player who's making plays for you why trade him?
Hamilton might get you a 5th round at best. What are we getting with that pick?
    You don't trade him.

With the way Coates has played what type of pick do you think he'll command?

Probably not a high pick because he really hasn't done anything this year. He played great for 3 games only with the deep ball, but then disappeared forever. Something tells me if Antonio Brown had 2 broken fingers, he could be playing again within weeks, and still be productive. With Bryant back there's really no need for Coates anymore. Ayers is more versatile & he doesn't play scared...

8th round draft pick I'd say.

I think you need to cut Coates some slack. 1 broken phalange on 1 finger can be managed. 4 broken phalanges across two fingers... is a whole different type of injury.

I finger injury doesnt sound like something that should hinder a WR for such a long period of time, but trust me... it can.

    Next Year WR core

    FL - Brown
    SE - Bryant
SL - Eli Rogers and Demarcus Ayers competition
Backup at FL - Eli, Ayers, DHB
Backup at SE - Coates, DHB, Hamilton

Hamilton will have to beat out a healthy Coates. Not impossible.

don't see Bryant being able to over come his problem
the same goes for Coates too
different problems yes but still a factor

Coates is insurance for Bryant. I still think he is going to be a productive NFL WR. I have faith in just about anyone this team throws out there at WR. The Steelers used to be considered a LB farm, but now it's the WR position.

Out of interest, what have you seen in Ayers above Coates?

There's no reason to trade Coates. We're not getting a high pick for him. His potential outweighs any late round pick we would get.

I saw a little young Antonio Brown in Ayers last game, for his 2nd career game he seem like our #1 option last week. Coates is bigger, way bigger, but Ayers is faster & more versatile. Like Rogers do all the time, I saw Ayers fearlessly catching balls in the middle & almost impressively in tight space along the sideline, I've never seen Coates do the same. I think Coates may be a lot better with the deep ball than Ayers because of height, but I notice Coates don't fight for balls like Bryant does, hard to image them both on the roster. It's just my opinion, I could be totally wrong. I like all our WR's, next year unfortunately we can't put them all on the roster...
