Well with this week pretty much meaning nothing and our starters basically getting the week off I thought this was a good space filler, lol. We really don't know who we are going to be playing next week right cause the Dolphins can move up to the number 5 seed if things go their way. So we could talk about who we are playing next week but we don't know, lol.

I agree however I am worried that another team will pony up say like 2-4 mil just cause he was in a successful system here and we match it. I don't want to bring this guy back for anything above 1.75 mil and that is stretching it. I feel there is not much difference between LJ and ZM and at 690k I am taking ZM all day and using the rest of the money on our fa and guys wanting bigger contracts.....jmo.

If I recall ZM was still new to the team when Ben went down so it was hard for him to take control of the offense.......

2 mil. ain't gonna make or break our cap. i'd pay LJ that as a #2. i also hope he doesn't see the field again because that means ben is healthy.

Good read but the most important part was this:

''Landry has the opportunity to go out and the way backup quarterbacks are being paid, he's a free agent next year, there's no telling whether he's a $4 or $5 million a year guy, or be a $2 or $3 million a year backup,'' guard Ramon Foster said. ''There's a lot for him on the line.''

This is my fear, sorry but I don't want to spend 2 mil on a back up QB with so many other needs we are gonna have. If we have the money and the space that will be a different story but until we get these other needs addressed 2-4 mil on a back up qb is not what I want to do. You know what I am saying? JMO

Romo is being paraded out on the field today for no other reason to shop him. Perhaps he would make a good backup. I know his agent and the owners want the most amount of money for me but realistically I dont see him starting anywhere.. Maybe Cleveland? haha

Unfortunately for Landry and all backup QBs that dont get much time on the field he has no real value. Even if he had a great game against the worst team in football ( Browns) what would that actually prove?

I see that. I guess back up QB is that awkward position where
    - you have a future starter, so have to pay over the odds to keep them
    - you have an unproven rookie or bad journeyman who you sign for minimum salary and pray your starting QB doesn't get injured
    - you have an ok back up who takes up cap space for holding a clipboard.

    Problems problems...

We know what Landry is, which is a poor NFL backup QB. If another team offers a ham sandwich for him, the FO should jump on it.

We picked him up in the offseason right? They obviously didn't see what they wanted over Jones so he was the 3rd QB.

I think it was the weekend before the preseason started when we picked him up. Or maybe even the right before the regular season started.

Or go get a Joe Webb type ...A guy who can play QB ok if needed and plays all the ST'S and can play WR or RB if needed ...

Look at how well the Browns QB did this year as a WR, he had 1000 yard season with crappy QB play..

The last week of August with the plan the whole time to be the #3 QB behind Jones:

the Steelers claimed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger off waivers and plan to use him as their No. 3 quarterback behind Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones.

I disagree look at what some of these guys have been signed for in the past. I guess now after his performance today we will see in the off season what that does for him.

No need for the front office to jump on anything Jones will be a free agent after the season.

His contract will make it hard to trade him but there are plenty of teams that would take him. The Jets, Denver, SF, Clowns, Vikes and Bears. I feel there is not doubt Romo starts some place next year if they figure out what to do with his salary.

But who is to say ZM couldn't? I am not saying he can or can't but let me ask you a question. If Ben went down do you feel Jones could lead us to the Super Bowl? If the answer is no then why pay him bigger money then ZM? That's my point, yes Jones did play well today and at times was hurt by the lack of talent around him but I just don't think he is worth the bigger contract. jmo
