Which one former Steeler in their prime would you want?

I feel he'd be the one most beneficial right now to the team and would work with the nickel the way they are playing it. Basically a DE at LB!

 

I would go with Troy or Rod on this current team. Our secondary is by far our weakest area.

 

Woodson I would buy, because he could transition from CB to Safety on the fly and he'd be more useful on the field transitioning.

I wouldn't want Troy on this team per say. Davis has been good in run support and I think he may be a little better at man coverage than Troy was.

Troy was grat in zone though because he could freelance. I don't think this defense would work that way they do better when they do their jobs..

 

Joe Greene. He owned the LOS (and the backfield too) when he was in his prime. With our young guys on the line, he'd be at the top.

 

I to am irked that he left. Rooney suggested he be switched to FS due to his major injury. He left the team not on good terms. Went to the hated crows and switched to FS.

 

He made a stop in San Francisco first.

 

Mel Blount/ Rod Woodson. What can you say HOFamers.

 

Yes Lizard as a CB. Could have stayed as a Steeler. He cut his HOF caliper as one. But I kind of blame Cowher who had frowned on Woodson becoming a FS. One of the greatest players in NFL history though. I was at the Detroit game with my son when he was injured. Amazing he came back for the Super Bowl. To bad O'Dunghead threw it away. Still sour about him winning one with the crows but a night cap into already a Hall of Fame career.

 

The difference was that Blount did ALL of his talking, in a non-verbal way, on the field! I wonder what he thinks of a loudmouth idiot like Sherman?

Our weakest part of the team right now is coverage, so I would go with Blount or Woodson first. Then Mean Joe due to our DL injuries.

Mean Joe Greene if he can play in the 3-4 like he did in the 4-3
if not I'll take Aaron Smith

 

I would say our defense is good but against elite offenses they can only do so much

 

Football has changed over the years. Troy best understands the game today as it is today and is the most athletic and smart player we could have on D.

I feel that wanting to put Joe Greene into a 2016 lineup is like wanting to throw a P-51 Mustang (badass for it's time yes) into a dog fight with modern day aircraft.

 

Did you see MJG play? I think he's one player from a by-gone era that could make the transition to the modern era and still be dominant.

 

That's just it. I'd love to say Mean Joe, but he wouldn't be the same player in our current system. Switch to a true 4-3 and I'd say Mean Joe Greene over anyone. With our current system, I'd say Aaron Smith. He'd help shut down the run as well as help our LB'ers get to the QB. Aaron Smith would do wonders for our DL. He might just be one of the most underrated players in NFL history

Mean Joe Green, because he was physically huge for his time at 6`4", 276 lbs, could play in our day with the strengthening and condition and nutrition programs available. He would bulk up over 300. Imagine what a Joe Green with another 30 pounds of muscle could do. He would be way better than Hargrave, but your scenario is not allowing for that since you are asking plug and play as they were.

It is hard to imagine many others from way back where size is a factor.

Corners have not changed much, so I`ll say Rod Woodson because he did more than just shut down a receiver. He returned kicks, picked the ball off instead of dropping his chances and had the speed to blitz. Troy would be a close second.
