Not signing Mike wallace was a huge mistake this offseason. With Bryant being out we could have signed wallace on the cheap to a 2 year contract and he could have stepped right in as number 2 reciever especially with his past chemistry with Ben. I am almost certain we would have won a few more games this year and he would not have been a raven. The steelers really screwed up if you ask me...........

I would have rather kept Sanders some how.

Both Coates and DHB serve the same role: take the top of the coverage and reduce the amount of safety help whoever is covering AB gets. Both the players I mentioned cost way less than Wallace. The front office couldn't have anticipated BOTH of them being injured at the same time.

    Ok I'll bite.

Even without MB, we had Wheaton, Coates, DHB, Rogers, Hamilton, and Green. WR wasn't a pressing need compared to other positions.

If we had most of the above healthy all season, we'd win as many if not more than with Wallace.

And that "one trick" is a trick this team could really use right now. Nobody can stretch the field. Wallace would have helped a lot but I'm sure they were banking on Coates being that down field receiver.

As a huge Mike Wallace hater. I agree. I had to think twice. My heart said no but for the price, MB was out, and he knew the team/players. Seemed like a no brainer.

In hindsight sure it would be nice to have him right now, but how many guys can you sign for a just in case scenario? We had a really good group to start the season even without MB. Wheaton, Coates, DHB all have went down with injuries I'll add Green in that also as I'm sure they were counting on him being a huge contributor in the passing game. At the beginning of the season Mike Wallace doesn't fit into our plans.
With a 53 man roster and a salary cap you can't plan for that many injuries at one position.
To say the Steelers made a huge mistake and really screwed up is pretty naive and silly.

I think Sammy Coates with unbroken fingers is better than Wallace. He and Ben had good chemistry early this season until Coates got hurt.

I know it's tempting to look in hindsight and say "we shoulda...". However, during the free agent signing period we had AB, a rising young Coates, Wheaton who was starting to "get it" and DHB who adds strong run/screen blocking and special teams value. Oh, and Green, a 6'6" receiving TE who runs a 4.5 40.

Wallace signed with the Ravens in March at 2 years, $11.5 million (with a $4.5 million signing bonus) after wearing out his welcome in Miami and Minnesota - two teams that are not exactly strong at the WR position.

Did anyone REALLY think beating that offer would be a good idea given our circumstances at the time (in March)?

Mike Wallace was no Santonio Holmes. He did not deliver in Super Bowl XLV. End of discussion.

While I understand why you'd ask the question, I say no thanks to this cancer, EVER AGAIN. Glad we didn't re-sign him. His ship left the Steeler port a long time ago, never to return.

i think it's too early to say that actually. I want to see how Rogers and Coats progress. I think they could both be twice the player Wallace ever was. They just need another year or two to develop. Remember this is basically 2 guys playing their first full season.

Martavis Bryant has all the tools to be the better WR. Also might come wayyy cheaper than Wallace. Bryant and Brown will be scary next year.
