Let me preface this list by stating that these are MY TOP 10 reasons, some you may agree with and others you may not but after yesterdays win I will put forth the list:

    10/ The Weather

The Weather in Orchard Park was what football is all about, it felt and looked like December football. It was great seeing the numerous amounts of Steelers fans as well as Bills fans in the stands braving the elements in a AFC match up. No domes , no indoor/outdoor roof , no shopping malls or swimming pools inside the stadium....classic football!

    9/ Bully Ball Was Back

Its been a while and maybe it was the elements or maybe Coach Haley just saw how special the O-line and Leveon were yesterday but we literally bullied the Bills for most of the game, specifically we showed personnel which said we're gonna run the ball, you know we're going to run the ball, we know that you know we're going to run the ball and there isn't a damn thing you can do to stop it.
For one afternoon especially with Ben being off the attitude and the committing to the run was a thing of beauty. It wasn't Coach Cower Steelers football and I dont know if in this day and age any team ever will be but at times it seemed like the old decades of Steelers football. Which leads to number....

8/ BJ Finney, Chris Hubbard and my man Roosevelt Nix

    Referee
    - "Number 74 has reported as eligible"
Announcer - "Handoff to who else Leveon Bell and a gain of ___ yards"

This was the narrative that was constantly heard on the radio for yesterdays game and from what I saw on TV from the replay Hubbard, Finney, and Nix were blocking their tails off. If we are going to beat teams like the Ravens it cannot be with trickery and finesse passing it has to be through our athletic pulling center and guards and through heavy blocking schemes with big personnel. This is the 2nd game where Finney in my opinion has absolutely shined as a replacement for Foster (if you get the opportunity to re-watch you'll see what I'm talking about.
I've been a Roosevelt Nix fan since last year when as a rookie he really made an impression on me with his special teams play and that was evident yesterday (kid was laying the wood). I had an argument with a buddy of mine when I told him that they should use Nix as a lead blocker especially in the redzone. His answer was that Leveon kind of hesitates and decides so a lead blocker would only get in the way of his natural abilities, BUT THAT'S MY POINT. When its 1st and goal from the 4 or 3rd and 2 from wherever I DON'T WANT TO SEE BEN IN THE SHOTGUN AND I DON'T WANT DANCING TO THE HOLE just follow your lead blocker and move the chains! I believe Roosevelt got his 1st opportunity as a lead blocker in the Dallas game which resulted in a Leveon touchdown BUT go back and watch Leveons 2nd and 3rd touchdown from yesterday, Nix blocked the CB all the way to the back of the endzone......from the 2 yard line!! and that's why I'm high on him and why I like the young trio.....They MOVE people!!!

7/ Leveon is a beast....but we already knew that!

Have to acknowledge the Running Back who set a new Steelers single game rushing record with 236 yards. He was all that and then some AND a few of those runs were all him.
As a sidebar I can't get used to calling him or knowing him as Juice, that moniker will always belong to O.J. Simpson. No matter how you view OJ I grew up in downstate New York watching football in the 70's and when Bills games came on you watched for one reason.

6/ The Firm of Timmons, Shazier & Dupree

I have previously written that now that Bud is healthier he along with Harrison can get upfield to collapse the pocket, making things easier for Timmons and Shazier. Shazier missed a few assignments and the team in the second half got little sloppy with their tackling but Dupree and Shazier we're moving like they were shot out of cannons. I like the way this is starting to look. For the last few years Harrison has been your best outside linebacker and anyone who watches football knows that was a problem. I realize that Jason Worilds suddenly retired and Jarvis never gave us what we needed but a 38 year cannot and should not be your best pass rusher, a specialist on 3rd downs and spot duty yes but not the best OLB. Woodley and Harrison were batman and robin but at 38 Harrison is no longer batman nor the boy wonder. I think that Bud & Ryan can take that lead now, besides Harrison and what he's doing is more like Superman. I would like to see Harrison signed to at least another year btw

    5/ The Boz is Back

It was only (1) field goal but how great was it to see Number 9 back out there. I have no idea how he injured himself or how any kicker strains any muscle but one related to his leg but I'm glad he's back, we're gonna need him

4/ Steelers Radio??? in this day and age of High Def

So at halftime I had to set the DVR and hop in the car to head to church for a holiday concert and presentation of Handel's Messiah. truthfully I've seen it performed a bunch but this was my Moms choir and she's retiring this year after 50 plus years of service.
Listening to the game on the radio was like back in the 70's when I used to get games on the radio, it left to the imagination, it took away the visionary but heightened other senses and you know what else.... I will take Bill Hillgrove and Tunch Ilkin over Phil Simms and Jim Nantz anyday lol

3/ We Finally Won A Game Where Ben Stunk

Not that I want this to become a habit but it was nice to get the output in other phases when our QB wasn't at his best (didn't happen in Miami) Ben is the leader of the team BUT as a team we showed some resolve, another character trait that we will need long after Ben has retired

2/ Coach Tomlin's 100th win and the fastest in Steelers history to 100

Mike Tomlin is 8th coach to reach 100 wins in 1st 10 seasons. Others: Ditka, Dungy, Gibbs, Madden, McCarthy, Seifert & Shula. Some people are not big on Tomlin and I admit he has his faults but unless you're getting one of these guys (except ditka) to replace him when you drop the ax please stop with the Fire Tomlin now or its Tomlin's fault after every loss. From what I've seen ALL teams lay eggs every now and then but the really good coached teams pull it together when it counts and towards the end. Tomlin's teams have never quit on him and even through injury remained competitive so please stop. Anyone on any given week can lose or have a losing streak but how that team responds is indicative of the coach (Ravens lost 4 look at them now, Bengals haven't quit on Marvin, and how about Mccarthy's Packers all of a sudden?). Tomlin ain't perfect but he's a damn good coach!

    1/ We're in 1st with a 3 seed playoff birth

Well at least as of right now we are but in my opinion that will once again change (I think the Ravens will beat the Patriots). But it sets up the X-mas game we all want to see. I need to see the Steelers beat the Ravens again cause its been a while.........too long in fact and nothing will make me temporarily happier than to win these next 3 games, have the Bengals beat the Ravens the last game of the season, and then beat them again in the 6 vs 3 AFC wild card game (This is how I see it unfolding). But right now we're on top of the AFC North!!!

Nice job all around Dom - I especially liked the part about heading out to see Mom at her finest - can't DVR those precious moments. Only thing you missed was acknowledging that half of MT's wins were due to Cowher's players ;). I still am fond of those radio broadcasts too.

Nice job. A couple of thoughts. I think Boz kicked two field goals yesterday, didn't he? As for your hope that we face the Rats in the 6 v 3 game, I respectfully disagree. I hope our win over them on Christmas day puts a dagger into their hearts and knocks them out of the post season. I don't want to face them two times in three weeks. That's one game that's too unpredictable.

    yeah
    i'd rather the Phins
and humiliate them as payback for the earlier debacle

not that i'm scared of the Ravens because truth be told , i dont have to play them lol

It would be nice too to beat the ravens in the playoffs tooo because it is time to put whiny bratty lil bro
back into the cellar and lock the door. Run n tell that

Yep. Boz kicked the 24th and the 27th points. Other than that, he is spot on.

I have given Tomlin some heat but all in all there isn't a suitable replacement so I never call for his firing. I had to drive from Pit to home 250 miles and could not watch the game but did tape it. I had WDVE for about the first quarter then went to barely audible static. Kept it on ass long as I could. The wife complained so she found the Bills Broadcasters which were much more clear. They were Bills homers of coarse but still more bearable the Simms and Nance. Phil Simms is purely awful in every sense of the word.

My biggest take away was also that Ben had a terrible passing game and the rest of the team carried us to victory. Not too long ago, that would have never happened.

Bell was something else though. It's like trying to tackle a deer.

"Have to acknowledge the Running Back who set a new Steelers single game rushing record with 236 yards."

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that Frenchy Fuqua held that record with somewhere around 250 rushing yards in a single game.

Until FWP broke Frenchy's record and then LB broke FWP's. I thought the same thing about Frenchy's stat being around 250 but it was less than that apparently.

    You're right, according to wikipedia:

"Over the course of his career, Fuqua played in 100 games, rushing for 3,031 yards and scoring 24 touchdowns. His best season was in 1970, his first with the Steelers, when he rushed for 691 yards and seven touchdowns. In this season, he set a then Steelers single-game rushing record of 218 yards against the Philadelphia Eagles. This was later surpassed in 2006 by Willie Parker when he gained 223 yards against the Cleveland Browns."

Great read and spot on! I thought other then Ben being off the team played a great game. Seemed from coaches all the way down they really wanted this game and played like it. Best game of the year I thought.
