I'm not sure they can trust him to sign him to a long-term deal, a franchise tag is more likely.

Unfortunately, I agree with this. I'm still holding my breath a little bit with Bell. One more failed or missed test, it's 10 games, correct?

In regards to guaranteed money, Im not sure using a franchise tag is better.

Because of his suspensions, they may be able to work out a better deal.

    a few notes on Bell-

    Today:

He set the Steelers team record for rushing yards in a game.
He became only the 2nd Steelers player to twice rush for over 200 yards in a game (Willie Parker the other).
His 236 yards was the 23rd highest single game total in NFL history.
He became only the 6th Steelers player to rush for 1000 yards in a season twice (the others- Bettis, Harris, Parker, Mendenhall, and JH Johnson).
He moved into 9th all time in total yards from scrimmage in team history, passing Lynn Swann.

With 158 more yards this year- which at this rate may come next week- he will be 5th all time in rushing yards in team history- in 4 seasons marred by suspensions and injuries.

One could make the argument- I'm not going to but somebody else can- that right now, we have the best Qb, best Rb, and best WR in team history all playing together for us at the same time...

Well, let's see if they can take us to the promised land multiple times like another pretty good big 3 back in the day before we make that assertion.

They will. Pittsburgh has more leverage than others know. Le'Veon seems to want to stay here as well, so I too believe something will get done...

.. Just have to gun for Antonio Brown first.

I will be highly curious to see how Brown responds after this game. Clearly not a ga me where the passing game was highlighted and if he is quite then we know he is ok with it, if he talks to the media about his stats then this contract extension will be difficult.

5 catches for 78 yards isn't terrible considering the inclement conditions.

I have spent a lot of time in contract negotiations over the years. Some are easy. Some are not. It depends on honesty and being fair. Both sides.

Bell is a tremendous talent and based on his games played he is deserving of a fair contract. Games played is the point.

They get signing bonus, or guaranteed money, that will be the challenge. He has lost the right to expect the going rate of quarantined money. Competing teams may or may not hold to the same standard the Steelers Should.

If he and his agent are willing to agree to a low signing bonus, higher salary and roster bonus contract, all will go well.

I thought he was expendable until the past two games, but he's clearly our MVP over the past few weeks. Plus, AB is less effective without a #2 receiver...frkn Bryant...

The no $h!t thread of the day! Hahah I love Bell. I think we can work something out with him. Make it a big deal with good money up front, but give the team good options to dump him after a year or two to cover their backside. Something a lot like these QB deals for Tyrod Taylor and Kaepernick. There's absolutely no reason to be letting this kid out on someone else's jersey any time soon.

No but it isn't typical AB numbers either and he has been vocal in the past about feeding him the ball

Browns contract is up in 2018. They need to sign Bell. It's a tough situation cap wise. Do they sign Brown this season to an extension and franchise Bell? Both are going to get a boatload. I feel that Brown will hold out if they don't extend him. He won't go for the raise again.
Bell is a once in a lifetime talent. Without Bell today a loss is what we would have seen. He dominated this game. Hope Colbert and Kahn can work some magic to keep them both.

How much you mean? 12mil range. If not for the suspensions, he'd get Peterson money, 14. With a 10 game suspension looming, he loses a lot of leverage.

No **** for some, but a lot of fans don't want to pay him.

Another failed drug test would result in a 4 game suspension, not a 10 game one as per the terms of his appeal.

Pay Bell. Let Brown play out his contract, then franchise him 1 or 2 times, then let him walk. He'll be on the wrong side of 30 then anyway

During suspensions the player doesn't get a weekly paycheck. The signing bonus is a different matter. That is guaranteed. That's why they all want more upfront.
