There are people on this board who would rather sniff my lucky underwear than admit to the facts of where Tomlin is on this list.

Im not really sure how I feel about Tomlin at 20 yet but its not like they are talking about players.

Coaches is a much smaller pool.

Still way too early to rank Tomlin among the greats. He needs to win one more Super Bowl and play a part in drafting a future franchise-caliber QB... then we'll talk. Schottenheimer and Coryell are better coaches, IMO at this point... and they won zero Super Bowls.

Lombardi won a total of five championships (3 NFL tiles, 2 Super Bowls) with the Packers in nine seasons. He might have had similar success with the Redskins if his life had not been cut short by colon cancer. - See more at: http://athlonsports.com/nfl/25-greatest-head-coaches-nfl-history#sthash.oSzRPtWw.dpuf

Actually those 3 nfl titles was inter conference play among 13 teams before the merger with the AFC, in my opinion they dont carry much weight in the over all scheme of championships, Lombardi has been hyped for so long that the media has made him a legend, he won the first two superbowls against two AFC teams who were over matched talent wise, so he isnt a number one rated coach in my opinion and a lot of these coaches mentioned arent worthy of being on this list........

Right, I don't disagree. But the point of the game is to win the Super bowl, so you also have to give credit to those who do.

It's funny that people say Tomlin should not be on the list. His stats are close to Bill stats with fewer games and coaching years. Who care about division champs. 8 to 4, by the way the Bengal, brown really was terrible when Bill coached. Second I hate reading Bill's players. ( name me one coach that didn't win with other coaches draft. I am 46 yrs old I can't remember any coach on the list who drafted 52 players. Lastly I can name many coaches that had talented players and lose, ex. Cowboys coaches after JJ, Mike K duke Blue Devils when he was sick,..... ). People say Marty, if he coached the Steelers and only made the playoff and no superbowl he would have be killed. My point is this superbowl wins and appearance and overall record make great coaches, not divisional championships or fans. If you look at every team message board you will find fire the coach he is stupid, he cant win, dumb call. But still he coaching a billion dollar team, and we fans are still watching

I agree with some of what you are saying. I was just as critical of Cowher as I am with Tomlin. So far... Cowher has been better in the playoffs, even though he lost 4 home AFC Championship games. Cowher racked up a lot more playoff wins in his first 6 seasons than Tomlin did... and we can argue all day about the QB position. Cowher won playoff games with O'Donnell, Tomczak, Stewart and Maddox. Tomlin lost to Tim freakin' Tebow with a HOF QB. Tomlin has a way to go to even match Cowher in playoff wins.

I will agree it pain me to watch Tebow game. But with the QB you mention other teams lost to O'Donnell (whisper that name or initials lol), Tomczak and the other. Someone wrote Tomlin could be the youngest outside of Madden to get to 100 wins. Second he has not had a losing season by NFL standard. To me I think you need to have won a superbowl or took team to one and have a successful record to be great

The list contains facts, that's just what I was tossing out. The actual ranking is certainly opinion.

I'm not so sure that Tomln is a better coach than Dan Reeves.
Reeves took the Broncos to 3 or 4 super bowls, lost and got fired, then went to Atlanta and took the Falcons to the super bowl right away and played his Bronco team. Its almost like Reeves had both teams in the super bowl then.

.... or Marv Levy. 4 straight Super Bowl appearances is quite impressive. If it wasn't for a barely wide FG kick... he would've had 1.

So you're saying Lombardi's fame is a product of the media and not based on anything he did? Man that is rich...

We have to look at the era and what the talent level and climate was during the time. Looking at Lombardi through the same lens as someone who is coaching today is myopic and unrealistic.

When Tomlin is done, I seriously doubt people will be quoting him and using his story to motivate people. Let alone 50 years later. The NFL championship won't be renamed the Tomlin trophy.
