apply the excessive TD celebration penalty to the point after to clean up the stupid celebrations????

This would give the offense a 42 yard extra point attempt or a 13 yard 2 point conversion try. I think it is a great idea, and would make players have more humility after they score.

I've often thought it's odd how the point after exists in its own bubble regarding penalties.

At this point, penalty yardage on kick offs is rarely that effective. So yeah, I agree, it's a good idea.

Insofar as penalising excessive TD celebrations is a good idea.

I say theres a 10 second time period after any scoring play for anyone who wants to celebrate to do so. After that get back to football.

That's fair as long as it in good taste. For example: I do not think that AB and Bell should have been flagged. Didnt really do anything rude or degrading to the other team. I felt like they just gave a five and that was it. Maybe I didnt see it all.

I told my son this exact thing after AB's penalty Thursday. If they really want to eliminate it, it should be enforced on the PAT or 2 pt conversion attempt.

Perhaps you can allow the other team to choose when to enforce the penalty. That way if the penalty is on the defense (like personal foul after the play) the team that accepts the penalty can choose either for the PAT or kickoff.

However, as a player, you still have to be upset at costing your team field position on the next series. As I watched football yesterday, it seems as if those momentum penalties and type plays only appear to affect the Steelers. Most other teams are able to make up for it.

I think they need to loosen up on the celebration penalty.

I know why they put it in place ... It was getting out of hand when players were wearing sharpies and cell phones on the field to pull out for the celebration, but I feel a lot of AB's penalties are for ticky tack stuff.

What if they add the celebration penalty on that down? Bell runs it in from the five on 3rd and 4 and celebrates too much. Thus, it than becomes 3rd and 19 from the 20. Too harsh? Dumb?

whew that would be harsh imo.

I could see it on the extra point/2 pt attempt but that's if they are serious about cracking down on the celebrations. Keep in mind they simultaneously promote scores through increased penalties on the defense. Sooo, that would send mixed signals imo.

So, let me get this straight. Fans want to remove a relatively meaningless penalty that doesn't hurt the team and replace it with penalties that do?

This celebration stuff really gets under you guys skin. I didn't even see AB's penalty this week, what was he flagged for this time?

one of those "choreographed" celebrations with Bell. It is really ticky tack imho but I can see both sides.

after he scored a TD, he did a very small "dance" for lack of better terms with LeVeon Bell. Refs said it was choreographed I assume. I think that's the one IIRC.

I just looked it up. I take it there must be some sort of rule on the books about choreographed celebrations? Because thats a BS penalty, it lasted 5 second.

Yep they allow it as long as it is just a single player doing it but as soon as you get more than one doing what appears to be a coordinated action it is a penalty.
