Agree Thanksgiving is a big game. Disagree the Bengals will intentionally tank vs the Ravens.

Burns may be the best CB on the team. Cockrell has been good but got spun around a few times yesterday.

Ok, I will take the bait, 1) never said he was Woodson, we all hope he is as ALL the fans want a DB here who is All Pro material. 2) first piece to snag an INT is to actuality catch the ball, and if you watch games you very well know our secondary over the last few years has dropped quite a few balls. Bottom line, Burns looks like a player. Been a long time since anyone could say that about a DB here.

Burns is showing a lot of upside.

I'm still not seeing it in Davis but it's early in his career.

Mike Wallace's touchdown comes to mind for me.

Those abrasive and uninformed opinions aside, Artie definitely is coming into his own faster than many of us thought. Personally, this was the time I expected Artie to make plays but I did not anticipate him starting as early as after the bye week.

Having to learn two different positions is definitely going to stymie development for sure. Had Sean been only playing just safety at the start of the season as opposed to splitting snaps at both slot corner and safety... we may have seen more progress.

Maybe, but a lot of what I'm not seeing are the fundamentals. Open field tackling for example.

I'm surely going to give him a lot more time before passing judgement.

This is true. He will have to work on that before too long. Have to make those open field tackles. It is not that he lacks play strength either. Just takes poor angles to the ball.

Been a while since I've posted. Got a new job and a new place with the gf. Have found the time to watch the Steelers but not to talk Steelers with you good people.

Came on here to find this thread in particular. I wasn't super thrilled with Burns as the pick, but man he looks good for a rookie. He still is gonna get burned a time or two, but he is big, fast, physical, and seems to have the right mindset to succeed. He's played very nicely since he became a starter.

Hopefully Dupree can come back and make an impact. It would be nice to see the previous three first rounders all out there at the same time making plays.

Burns has a long way to go. The highlight plays stand out on athleticism. But the snap by snap tape tells a much different story. Burns has a lot to learn playbook wise. He's getting by on pure coverage athletics... but he's prone to poor reps like the Barnidge TD.

Yes I like the kid. But hopefully the defense will come around sooner than later, Ben doesn't have much time left and to catch that window of opportunity we have left with him is closing. It really time to start looking for a serious replacement to train under him. Cowboys totally lucked out when they got Dak

That's a good point. At IMG_9652.JPG IMG_9654.JPG IMG_9656.JPG what cost do we throw Burns and Davis into the fire to learn? If we're in the middle of a run for the playoffs with a decent chance at the Super Bowl, and Burns costs us the season so we can get him some experience, was it worth it? Player development right now might not be a good idea.
In these three pictures, we see Burns allowing his man to beat him deep.
In pic 1, we see Tannehill on a rollout left. He has three options, all good for him. Run it, pass to the Dolphin in the flat, or deep to the WR that looks like he's getting some separation.
In pic 2, we see Tannehill spotting the deep WR and throwing.
In pic 3, we can see it's going to be a long gain to Burns' man.

I've never seen so many players give themselves up far too easy on the sack, not just Steelers. If the QB can see you coming then you have to hesitate a little, just long enough for the QB to commit one way or the other and then react. If not the QB will just ole the defender.

If our safety's can make a play and walk away we would have beat Miami. When I see mitchel and burns make a stop on 3rd down and then get in the face of the person they stopped. THEN THE REF THROWS AN UNSPORTSMANLIKE FLAG AUTOMATIC 1ST DOWN. Baseball bat to the knees come to mind

out of curiosity who was Harrison responsible for on this play? Not saying that Burns didn't play it wrong but on the replay it looked like Harrison backpedals with Barnidge but never really disrupts his route and then as they get to the goal line Harrison holds up in what appears to be a coverage zone but doesn't have anyone near him. The reason I ask is if he steps half a foot inside then he is in the Barnidge's pass lane and they have to lob the ball over him or force the ball to one side. Not sure if Harrison moves though if it compromises his defensive responsibilities.

They are playing. Let them play and learn. They will make some mistakes, but they will also make a lot of plays for the positive from a defensive standpoint.

They should not live in their fears, in this regard.

Play. Play hard. Play smart. Play.
