Jarvis Jones benched

Ok I'm not defending either Harrison or Jones here but someone break down these two plays and tell me why Jones is more to blame than five other guys who all should have had a shot at Elliot including Davis and Golden who should have stopped him.



and on this play tell me how things would have been better on the previous play if Harrison is in and Jones is on the bench since Harrison and Moats are the OLB that are on the field when he takes an 83 yarder to the house. Now I'm a huge Silverback fan and I have stuck up for JJ a lot too but come on folks there was a lot going on in this game that people are either seeing what they want to or letting the anger cloud their memories. Harrison made some good plays but he was getting abused in the screen game a lot too. Jarvis was getting worked over as well but there were communication break downs and as I said Sunday morning they needed to play disciplined and they didn't, You saw what happened when gusy guessed the play and went for the glory. 31 yard walk off TD to win the game.

 

Is it okay to now officially call him a BUST?

 

I have no official capacity to say yes or no but if you feel that you can be official about it then I will official defer to your official findings. Officially.

Not blaming him for both plays as he wasn't even on the field for the screen pass that went for 83 yards. Problem there was Moats swimming to the inside of his man instead of the other way because Harrison had that edge sealed already. Then it looked like Tuit instead of recognizing the screen and dropping got caught too deep (That's what she said) and it was just enough to get it over his head. If he recognizes that screen he's able to get back and at least bat that ball down or take it for 6 the other way and that would have been a nice dagger going up by 3 TD's.

On the last play it's clearly a run blitz and Jarvis looks like he's doing his job, but Shazier decides he's going to overrun his gap and everyone else fails miserably. Davis looks like he was supposed to actually be shooting the edge and disrupting the handoff. Looks like he was too far wide and was never going to make it but he realized it too late and didn't have the angle after Shaz got cleaned out.

I think they're just in the shuffle things up mode.

 

That's exactly his issue...... he's better suited to read and react, not to disrupt....he is definitely better suited for the 4-3 in that regard... or even a switch to the inside like Timmons after we drafted him... but he is wasted on the outside unless we change our defense.... right now, he is totally mismatched

 

I miss Woodley, Farrior, and Foote. They had high football IQ. Mental lapses never happened with those guys.

And I miss Jack Ham, Jack Lambert and Andy Russell. Shoot, I'd even like to have Mike Merriwether or Bryan Hinkle right now.

 

There'd be so many PF's called teams would just stop playing.

He was responsible for that gap and Davis was there for outside contain and took a hard bite down before he realized Jarvis was not in his gap. Still, Shazier was on the ground.

Shazier was on the ground, Hargrave looked like he was going down before the ball was snapped, Timmons tried to shoot the gap and got stuffed, Chick went shooting towards the line at the snap instead of keying on Elliot. It was like everyone thought it was 3rd and 1 and they had to stop them for negative gain and were rushing the middle of the formation and never thought hey if we break contain he is going to walk in.

 

Hargrave got trucked. Not sure if he intended to dive to the left, but if he stays and holds his ground he alters the play.

 

Ok so NOW can we finally call him a bust? LOL!
