Just one of those bad luck runs. Teams like Dallas and Washington went through it for years in a row. I guess it's our turn.

Maybe. But, in my opinion, the ownership will look at this year and say " well, If Coach T had everyone healthy...." And will give him one more year. If this team stays healthy next year, they can win it all, despite, not because of, Coach T, ala Barry Switzer, another cheerleader non coach type.

Heyward was playing hurt... not 100% which explains the mediocrity of the D-line. It's a shame. Heyward is the real deal... hope he returns to dominance in 2017.

Reminds me of when we lost Aaron Smith late 2007.. And everything on D fell apart.

I would like for us to have more depth too. Heck I'd like for us to have better STARTERS on defense. The one problem I think Colbert is having to deal with is how can you stack a team that has a franchise qb and the best wr and rb in the game? We can't hardly afford to have depth. Before when we had depth we had it from players that came out of nowhere. When you get into free agency you have to spend money on a larger scale. I know what you're saying and I agree in spirit but really we have to start drafting better. One way in which I DO blame Colbert a little bit is for the Landry, Archer, and Rainey picks. The "project" player nonsense needs to stop. When it works it's great but when it doesn't you wind up cutting guys that were maybe drafted in the place of someone that would have worked out.

I was actually gonna say when I started reading this thread that this is probably all my fault because I used all my positive mojo on my Cubbies. LOL!

We were fairly healthy? Our QB missed 1 game, and played injured for the 2nd half against Miami and the full Ravens game (it was obvious IMO). Our best defensive player missed much of the early part of the season, and is now gone. Our (probably) 2nd best defensive player has missed a lot of time. The guy who was counted on to be our top edge rusher hasn't played a snap yet. The guy who was counted on to be our starting TE just saw his first action. Our 2015 2nd round corner has yet to play a snap in 2 seasons. Gilbert missed a couple of games, and his backup (really 3rd stringer) played one good game, then struggled. Our 2nd string tackle on both the left and right sides is on IR. A few other starting defenders missed some time. Foster missed some time. Pouncey missed some time (and the sky is blue). That doesn't sound like we've been fairly healthy.

I hope they give Chickillo a long look the rest of the season as a starter opposite of Dupree when he returns. Maybe he turns out good and fills a hole. Otherwise outside LB will be an early pick next spring.

I definitely understand. Most teams with franchise quarterbacks have very little depth and it does cost for above average players to just sit behind another player. Maybe it's Butler for not using the backups enough. I don't know what the drop off is during a series with Mathews and McCullers or Walton filling in for Heyward and Tuitt. Maybe it's there usage. We know Heyward and Tuitt are the top players but they don't do us any good if they are worn out by the fourth quarter.
I also agree with you about drafting better but I think that's across the NFL. We need better evaluators of talent before we take a guy. Our scout department that covers OLBs and DBs are bad. I'm not sure how it works but these guys are not making it out of camp (DBs). Someone mentioned that all the OLBs that were drafted after Jones are underachieving and Jones wasn't that good for us to pick number one. So, why did we? If the entire class of OLBs are bad why take one. I'm pretty sure it was a top rated player at another position that we could of chosen. But it's hindsight now.
Just this year's draft. We took Artie Burns which I agree we need CB help, but 3-4 OLBs are paramount in our scheme. I thought our secondary played better last year than this year. But our pass rush has gotten worst. I know they were counting on Dupree to give them some life in the pass rush department but you can't tell me there was no better options in FA than Chick, Harrison, Moats and Jones.
