I'm hoping I'm posting this in the correct section.

I'm planning a trip from St Louis to Pittsburgh for my nephew's 11th birthday. He's a HUGE Steelers fan as I was as a child. I guess he got his love of the Steelers from me. I'm looking at flying in on Saturday Dec 3 for the Dec 4 game & flying out Monday Dec 5. Shh please don't tell anyone we both may skip school. Lol!

Here's where I need so help:

    1. Where to stay? Would prefer to stay within walking distance of Heinz Field. Prefer a room with 2 beds.

    2. Where to buy tickets? Have been looking on Stubhub. Would prefer to sit on the Steelers side of the field & between the 30 yard lines.

    3. Options for getting to the hotel from the airport? Is Uber available in Pittsburgh & can they pick up at the airport? Should arrive around 2pm Saturday & depart around 12pm Monday.

    4. What is a must see & do while we are in town, besides the game? Please remember it's one female & one 11 yr old boy. We'll check into the hotel hopefully by 3:30pm Saturday & probably have to leave Monday morning by 9am.

Thanks in advance for the help!!! GO STEELERS!!!!!

Welcome aboard, Aunt. I'm going to quote one of our members from a recent thread. Some of it doesn't relate to your trip, but much of it will be useful to you. Pittsburgh does indeed have Uber. https://www.uber.com/cities/pittsburgh/

    TICKETS
    If you can handle it
The week of the game the steelers release lower level tickets
They are tickets that the family members don't use
    That's what I do
One trip we were in section 141 or something and sat next to lagarrette blounts gf and kids and Chris johnsons family
Kinda cool and much cheaper if you can handle waiting that long for tickets
You can also buy the 500 level section tix when they go on sale in June. You need to go for the less desirables game, but at least they are face value before Ticketmaster fees.
Ticketmaster Ticketexchange and StubHub and probably most reliable and safest way to get tickets. Although u usually pay a little more for them there.

    HOTELS

I stay at Wyndham downtown and walk through a nice park and then the bridge over to the stadium

Another excellent option is to STAY AT SHERATON STATION SQUARE AND TAKE THE FERRY OVER TO THE GAME! The ferry is an awesome experience for a first-timer going to a game. The Incline is awesome too, which is also at Station Square.
Closer to the stadium Theres the Hyatt Place which is a very short walk from the Stadium, but typically more expensive However you won't have to worry parking or getting around and can walk to the game. The Casino is al$o very close by.
Further from the stadium is the airport hotels. They are cheaper but around 12-15 miles from downtown.

    SHOPPING

As an out of towner I was amazed at the store hometown sports they have any and everything steeler that u may want
They also have steelers sign autographs sometimes on Saturday.
The Strip- Go on a Saturday for the full experience. Tons of Street vendors . Expect a big crowd and bring a bag to carry purchases. Parking can be tough but well worth it. You can shop for a variety of items, from hand crafted metal to crafted Native American items, not to mention the ton of Pittsburgh sports items.
Outlet Malls- about 20 miles away in Washington PA.

Ross Park Mall- Your typical mall with all the typical stores and places to eat. Keep the wife away from the COACH store or your trip will be much more expensive :)

    RESTAURANTS

    I love eating at Peppis
You have to get u a Rothlisberger there
(If your heart can handle it)

Grille 36 and primanti brothers are a must too

The Strip- There are great places to eat (Kaya, Pamela's for breakfast, Primanti's)

Station Square- Hard Rock Cafe Joes Crab Shack and Texas de Brazil just to name a few.

Maybe the best place to eat in Pittsburgh is Gaucho Parilla Argentina
    It's on Penn Ave.

    THINGS TO DO
The Duquesne Incline- If you are visiting Pittsburgh, this is a must! Take the incline up to the top and walk Grandview Avenue. You will see breathtaking views of the city. Make sure you are there when the city is lit up at night.

Zoo&Aquarium- Fun place to spend a day looking
at interesting animals. They have a great penguin exhibit and the polar bears are entertaining. It is one of largest Zoo's and has a huge Aquarium with exotic animals. There are some rides for the children and a fenced in area with small animals that you can pet and feed.

Rivers Casino- Great place for tables games and slots machine. Buffet isn't too shabby

Sports Venues- If you go in September check out the Pirates and PNC Park it may be the most beautiful park in America. Oct-Jan is hockey season go see the Penguins at the Consol Energy Center.

I second the Wyndham. My 10-year-old and I stayed there last December. Good hotel, easy (and safe!) walk to/from the stadium.

Thanks for the recommendations!! Please keep them coming.

Anyone ever stayed at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Pittsburgh North Shore? If so how is it? Is it within walking distance of Heinz Field in December?

I've seen Permanti Brothers on the Travel Channel, may have to check it out. What about Jerome Bettis' restaurant? Is it acceptable for an 11 yr old?

Yes on Bettis. Where at in St. Louis are you? I'm out in Warrenton.
I'll post some info when I get home in a little while.

Grille 36 in my opinion would be fine for a 11 year old the only issue i can possibly think of that might offend you is people do drink beer there.
I took my 6 year old there and had no problem though

The beer drinking is not a problem! We've never been to Pittsburgh, but figured being that close to the stadium it may be family friendly.

Restaurants that I've been to that I like.
Peppi's in the Strip District (Get the Rothelisberger)
Primanti Bros. In the Strip District (Get the Pittsburgher)
Deluca's for breakfast (get there early, long line)
    Pamela's for breakfast
Burgh's Pizza and wings ( Really good pizza and wings)
Bettis' 36 Grille (I actually met Jerome Bettis there in 2010)
    Fatheads (Southside)
    Urban Tap Southside)
    Fioris Pizza (love this place)
Genoa Pizza ( I believe it's in market square area)
    Quaker Steak and Lube

    Shopping
The strip District is the best place in my opinion.
The Steelers Pro Shop (official store of the Steelers)
Hometown Sports at Station square has alot to offer.
Walmart has some stuff as well as some of the other department stores.

    Things to do
The Inclines ( Duquesne Incline is my favorite) View of the city from the top at Mt. Washington is amazing.
    Heinz History Museum
Ride the Ducks at Station Square. ( Sounds corny, but it's a nice little tour of Pittsburgh and it's reasonable)
    Check out Market Square area

    Gameday / Tailgating
Parking lots open 5 hours before game time.
You can find plenty of tailgates that you can buy into. Normally $20 per person all you can eat and drink.
Steel City Mafia does a tailgate for all home games Gold lot#4 $25 per person and all proceeds go to charity.
Stage AE has the official tailgate of the Steelers. Free to get in. Opens 3 hours prior to kickoff. Live broadcast of the pregame show. Plenty of food and drink options. live music and games for the kids. Sometimes they have players there signing autographs.
Lots of things to do around the outside of the stadium. Lot of free stuff.
No matter where you're sitting in the stadium be sure to check out the Great Hall. It'll give you goosebumps. The'll have live music there too.
Stadium opens 2 hours prior to kickoff. Fun to go in and watch them warm up.

Be sure to sign up for Steelers Nation Unite and build your yards up. You may get selected to participate in onfield activities. Worked for me. Got onfield access for the 49ers game last season.

That's all I have right now. If you have any other questions let me know and I'll try and help.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn. Walked down along the river and crossed the bridge right to the stadium. It wasn't a bad walk at all. It was nice and cheaper than some others. When we return we will be staying there again.

What area of the parking lots is Stage AE?

Have you ever used Uber or Lyft while in Pittsburgh? If so what is your opinion of each?

    Type in Ticketmaster.com
Click the game. Such as Steelers vs Jets
    Check like Thursday, Friday, Saturday.
Ticketmaster gets to sell tickets that don't get used. Sometimes you get lucky and might score lower level seats. Usually though, there are upper-level end zone seats (these are bleacher seats with backs mind you) that usually are given to the opposing team, if some are turned down, ticketmaster gets to sell them. These seats are cheapest. Insider tip, try to watch seats within the Stadium, if you watch a set of seats, that no one is sitting in, such as after the 1st quarter or after halftime, many times I've bought cheaper seats, and moved down low, just because people didn't show up or left, or whatever. But, you have to be sneaky. Ushers usually won't say anything. They see show many people during a game. They think you sitting in that section most times.

These tickets show up as light blue dots on the seats map, you can click the seats you want, then proceed to check out.

This doesn't always happen, but lots of times does. Best of luck.

Three weeks out for our Dec 4 game, flights are booked, hotel is reserved, & tickets have been purchased. We arrive in Pittsburgh Sat Dec 3 at 2pm. Planning to Uber or cab to our hotel, Wyndham Grand Downtown. Thinking of heading to Heinz Field to check out the team store after we arrive. Then late lunch/early dinner at Bettis Grille 36. Sunday late morning planning to go to Station Square. Might ride the incline but will definitely check out Hometown Sports. Still working on where to eat for breakfast Sunday. We will not have a car so we will rely on Uber or taxi. Planning to take Gateway Clipper to the game, depending on the weather. I'm sure we will check out at least one tailgate party, probably Stage AE one. Anything I'm missing? You all have been a huge help!!! Thank you so much!!!

Have a great time! I posted ?? such as yours last year when I was planning my trip with my boys for last year's Broncos game when we came home to Pa for Xmas. Everyone was so helpful. We stayed outside the city 7 miles away at a nice Hampton in Homestead at the Waterfront( large shopping, entertainment center) and Uber'd in for game ($10) Had military discount with free parking for $80 night,so more $$ to spend ;) since I spent $200 + ea for tix ( Xmas present) For their bd this past Oct we went to Miami. Other then loss it was fun since Steelers stayed ( and partied ) at our hotel. Starting to plan this Xmas trip for Ravens game ...believe it or not tix are cheaper than previous games with it being Xmas.

We went to Jerome Bettis grill, Primanti's at the Stip (which is a must) Mineos Pizza house in Squirrel Hill was awesome, Peppis, Incline...Xmas village?? ice rink downtown was nice. So much to do.

Again...have a great time! Your nephew will luv it!
