Tomlin NEVER had control of this team,. NEVER. The stamp he put on this team, on day one in 2007, was to not have a stamp.

So are Bell's comments about sloppy practice really that surprising? During preseason, every unit looked unprepared to play, except for the first team early in the Saints game. Many chalked it up to preseason. I didn't. What we saw during the preseason was poor execution, players out of position, poor tackling, all the way around. It was bad at every position, at all levels.

I have little faith that Tomlin can rally a team. In 2009, he swore he was going to unleash hell. Uh, yeah, that didn't work out so well.

I've only kept track of the Browns' scores. I haven't watched them play. Even if they look better, their record doesn't.

Considering that Ben indicated Tomlin is running practices that are too intense, and Bell is stating that the same mistakes that are seen on the field are seen in practice, it would seem that Tomlin is trying to drill these guys into a disciplined state. However, it would seem he faces opposition to the approach. This would further make me question how much power he actually has in the organization.

Again, there is a veil beyond which I cannot see. So, this is all speculation. I'm just throwing these thoughts out as a option to consider as we debate the current state of the Steelers.

Tomlin failed to unleash hell in 2009 with Cowher's players.

Now, I wouldn't trade our record for the Browns at all. But what I seen on Sunday was as this team just come together for the first time with no Mini-camp, no OTAs and no preseason games. It looked like all our third-stringers were playing and that for such a talented latent team and above average coaching staff that we embarrass ourselves not just once but 3 out of our 4 loses.

Bell is full of crap, or he's smoking again Ed Bouchette said he hasn't noticed practice being sloppy. Bell making excuses because the team played like crap.

I have a hard time believing Ed over a player on the team, no matter who it is.

Nice article and while I am not a fire Coach Tomlin guy yet...Some moves need to be made for sure...Is it KC ? Is it Mike Tomlin? Is it Haley ? Is it Ben ? Something needs to change and not just a subtle change or we will remain in limbo like the article states ....

Rooney needs to light a fire under his ass, he feels his job is so safe that no matter how bad he gets he has untouchable job security, time to tell him to shape up and that his complacency is un acceptible.....

The point is, how do fans know what is going on behind closed doors? They don't , but some of them sure get worked up and form opinions based on assumptions.
I personally try to stick to what I know when criticizing the team, which isn't much.

Ed goes to practice, what reason does he have to lie? It just comes off as a player making excuses because the team played sloppy football.

Why does Bell have to make excuses? He doesn't have to lie either.

I just think he is more in tune with how they practice than Ed is watching. Its not like practices are officiated.
