If the Rooney's had any balls they should fire Tomlin now

I totally agree! After bye week we were unprepared, totally out of sync, and most of all totally out coached again. Another loss to a very weak team that had lost 4 in a row. Typical Tomlin coached teams! Run Tomlin out of town!!!

Ben also only has one playoff win in the last six years, and he loses to :poopy: ****ty teams constantly.

I blame KC as much as anyone ..That stay put and draft BPA crap when you know you need real players is BS ..As I have stated before that approach is fine if you have studs starting and need depth for the future, that has not been the case and we have missed many solid CB'S and many solid Safeties, and many pass rushing types during that process of playing it safe and drafting BPA ...Our Defense is just bad and time won't make it good we still need at least 5 starters that are not currently on the roster .....

I don't think Tomlin is an elite coach by any stretch of the imagination, but I've got an undeniable fact for those who think he should be run out of town:

Last year in the playoffs this team, with the same coaching staff and mostly the same players, was leading the eventual Super Bowl champs in THEIR house, in the 4th quarter, and driving down the field before an untimely (and flukey) fumble. Oh, and we were missing AB, Bell, DWill and Pouncey (all Pro Bowl/All Pro players). Oh, and our QB tore ligaments in his throwing shoulder the week before.

That team was also 4-4 at this point in the season, and the message board was full of people wanting to run our coaches out of town with pitchforks.

I know the boo birds will come out with a bunch of "woulda-shoulda-couldas" to try to invalidate that fact and paint the team and coaches in a bad light, but there are plenty of "woulda-shoulda-coulda" counterpoints that are no less valid.

Point is - there's a lot of football left to play, and declaring that the season is over and it's time to fire Tomlin makes no rational sense whatsoever.

Except that some our biggest failings were on the OLine and WR, areas of strength. Perhaps if we had taken a BPA at WR or O Line our offense would have run smoother.

I'm not advocating a pure BPA approach, but it has its merits. Reaching purely for need is not a recipe for success. It takes a balanced approach.

The balanced approach is fielding one of the worse Defenses in the NFL .. I contend the Offensive failures are directly related to the poor defensive play ..It looked to me that we intended to run at all cost my opinion is because we knew our Defense would give up more big plays the longer they are on the field ....

We can never run against the Rats the real blame goes on the OC ...They put more in the box than could be blocked and we still tried to run right at it ...Why not a swing pass,a screen pass, a quick pitch , a sweep, a end around, a TE dump ? I don't blame the OL the coach set them up to fail and I don't blame the WR'S because Ben was off most of the game, Coates did drop that 1 very nice ball but Ben had at least 10 bad throws...

You forgot, backed into the playoffs :lolol:

I think last year was Tomlin best coaching job to date.

Fans always want to run the coach out of town, look on any board, swap their coaches name for Tomlin, the board will read the exact same.

I'm not above getting rid of Tomlin, sometimes you need a new voice, he's been here a long time. But if you are willing to actually look at the games, there is usually clear reasons for the loss and it's not just a simple, the coach sucks.

On this whole play calling complaint, I just did a really quick check of the play by play and saw this for our first five possessions:

    1. Pass, run, run
    2. Run, run, pass
    3. Pass, pass, pass, pass, run
    4. Pass, pass, run, pass
    5. Pass, pass, pass

I stopped at that point, because it's obvious that we didn't just stubbornly run the ball and throw balance out the window.

Now I wasn't thrilled with some of the calls (counter on 3rd and 4?), but to me it didn't look like we were one dimensional.

I agree. I think those who put Tomlin on a pedestal overdo it. He has some pretty solid flaws - as do most NFL coaches. However, the timing of what some want to do is absurd, and even if this season goes south, you'd damn well better have a better candidate ready to roll if you send him packing. He's not great, but it could be a LOT worse.

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put on K.P.

Ben will not do this consistently. Haley tried it when he first got here. Ben's stats were great and the Steelers moved the ball methodically. But Ben is drawn downfield.

Not really a fan of your posts Real Steel but I agreed with the gist of this post.(I would have worded the title different though) Thank goodness the Rooneys don't own the Pens because we'd still be looking at Byslma. Yuk

Indeed. I read some Ravens articles and boards after this past game. Many fans are saying Flacco is washed up and Harbaugh can't coach for crap. :lolol:

Nah - that just shows that they only ever called either a run or a pass. It was soooooo predictable that it would be one of the two.

Ravens fans actually know more about football than I thought. LOL! I've also seen seahags fans talk about how "soft" their defense is as well. Although I'm more forgiving of them because they've only been football fans for a couple of years...

I know, right? Where's the punt on 2nd-and-6? Even Belichick wouldn't see that coming.

Tomlin said in his post game to the post gazette that he used the conservative game plan to protect Ben, and he thought they were controlling the game for 3 quarters until the 4th quarter when they were behind. I never heard of designing a game plan to protect a player before........

Can you provide a link to the content?

I think all HCs implement a game plan that keeps the QB protected. But I'll check the context if you have a link.

Munchak and Haley both have HC experience... but I'd rather have Tomlin with all of his faults than either of those two at HC.
