    1) ABs tactics worked. It didn't. He did not get a penny more.
    2) Making him play out his contract without negotiating an extension when he has one year left. Bad move.
    3) Tagging him. Worse move.

AV isn't the longterm answer at LT, the Steelers need to keep him on the cheap as long as they can. Jerald Hawkins might be a player Munchak can develop into a LT.

He does "erase" the good feelings others have after all with his antics!

Should be interesting how the Steelers handle this unusual windfall. LOL
Quick question? how much are you guy's willing to spend on Le'vean Bell,
who has already been suspended twice for multiple games?

I kind of feel this unnerving sense with Bell that if we pay him big money, he'll do something stupid again.
And if we let him walk, he'll post multiple 2,000 yard seasons wherever he ends up.

But that's just the cynic in me.

In general I think we're just better with Bell. I can't put a figure on it (I'm not a cap guru like some), but for me I'd take the risk given how complete a back he is.

I think you sign him. And his past transgressions/injuries should help make that possible.

You can't just replace him with a running back, Bell had 854 yards receiving in 2014, thats such an awesome wrinkle to throw at defenses. Oh, and as his primary duty, he just happened to hammer out a measly 1361 yards on the ground.

It's a risk, but one I'd definitely take. He also makes Ben better when he's out there, as well as protects him.

My reading of that article is that they're saying because other teams like the Pats and Broncos don't have highly paid, highly productive RBs, the Steelers shouldn't bother with Bell.

It's essentially the same argument that this is a passing league now, so the RB is basically worthless .

That overlooks what Bell brings in terms of extra dimensions to THIS offense. It actually says nothing about how the steelers at all.

His disciplinary record is a decent argument to not sign him. "We should go with Toussaint and sign Talib", which was basically that articles argument, is not.

Yup. Steelers essentially have to figure out if they think Bell is over his off filed issues. I don't think the money will be outrageous, if they feel they can trust him, he'll get a second contract.

Your reading of the article created a strawman. He made no comment on who should replace Bell. He just said don't overpay for running backs and he's right.

That was (fairly obviously) a throwaway remark at the end of the post. Especially given that I already noted the article said nothing about the Steelers - hence why it was a pretty poor argument.

You don't overpay for RB's, Bell is much more than that though. Even still, Steelers won't pay him a boatload, but if they can work out a fair deal, its foolish not to sign him.

Get him another contract and let him go when he's approaching 30.

What's the max contract you would offer Bell?

Would you go 5 yrs / 50 million?

I might but I'm sure Omar Khan is a much better negotiator than me :lolol:

I think his talent is worth that, absolutely but I think they could sign him for 5/45. Thats what DeSean Jackson got. Arian Foster got 5/43. Anything around that should get a deal done. He hurt himself with his off field issues, throw in his injury history, I think they can pull that off.

If they sign him, I try to limit the years and make it easy to get out of. He's hurt both knees and has been suspended twice. Not to mention, it's rare that RBs improve on their 2nd contracts.

His tender would be ~11.5, and then ~12.6 if tagged the following year.

So we've got a ball park for guaranteed money in the first 2 years... ~24 million

    I'll take a stab

5 years, 50 million, 25 guaranteed, 10 million signing bonus.

    Year 1 : 10 million fully guaranteed cap = 12
    Year 2 : 5 million fully guaranteed cap = 7
    Year 3 : 8 million cap = 10
    Year 4 : 8 million cap = 10
    Year 5 : 9 million cap = 11

How does he not get a penny more if they keep advancing him money and they advanced him next years money this year and then they are going to extend him next year? What is he going to sign an extension then play for free next year or for way less including the advance this year? I don't think so.

I think Bell should be offered an incentive laden contract.
Play all 16 you get this?
Rush for 1500 you get this?
    Suspended again you get this?
Catch 65 passes you get this?

I disagree I think AV is becoming a solid LT. he has grown every game. His work ethic has a lot to do with it and I expect him to keep growing
