I mentioned yesterday he hasnt had a breakout running game for over 200 yards yet, he had 10 catches for 68 yards combined with 81 rushing yards giving him 149 yards from scrimmage so he was very productive considering belichick was focused on stopping him in this game.........

Bell and Brown are all we have on O now with Ben out. Bryant really, really screwed the team with his stupidity.

I agree times a million. That's what I've been screaming all year. Bryant has a better reputation as a genuine deep threat than Coates do and until Coates executes more consistently all the coverage is just gonna converge on AB. MAYBE if Green can finally get out there he will open up some space for AB.

You make yourself look like a complete a** when you don't at least try to analyze the situation for what it was. Even when SOME fans don't understand the coaches logic there are those of us that do understand the coaches logic.

The Steelers were down 14-0 early in the game. They played from behind for ALL of the game. As a result, they had to pass the ball more than they ran the ball. Running the ball generally keeps games close. Passing the ball is where points are mostly produced.

I don't have time to do the math right now but what was the pass run ratio in the 1st QT, 2nd QT ect? Simply because a lot of those pass plays probably happened late in the game when the team needed points. Teams tend to pass more late in the game when they are behind by 2 scores.

Bell had 31 touches of the 69 Steelers offensive plays (almost 45% of the offensive load). You forgot that Bell had 10 receptions. Most of Bell's receptions were short passes in which he had YAC. I believe most of the Steelers designed pass plays were short passes. The short pass plays were sometimes used as an extension of the run game. I think Bell got tired. How much more of the load do you think Bell could carry?

The Steelers were able to get take deeper shots down field because NE was focused on stopping the Steelers run game. I believe NE had 8 men down near the box area in anticipation of stopping Bell in the run game.

The coaches had a good offensive game plan. It worked properly when it was executed. The penalties hurt the offense at times. The inability to produce TD's instead of FG's also hurt. The turnover in the red zone hurt. The defense didn't have the horses necessary to contain stop the NE offense from scoring. Most defenses in the league don't have the horses necessary to contain a Brady lead offense.

The Steelers needed to be mostly mistake free in all three phases to have a chance to win. They weren't and as a result they loss. People can criticize the coaches all they want but the game was loss out on the field.

    Some call it stupidity.

I call it selfishness and arrogance.

Yep. This offense was poised to be epic. It's still very good when firing on all cylinders, but could you imagine it with opponents having to account for Bryant's freakish talent?

I think like most of the people in this thread think. Bell has been pretty much the only solid part of this team since he has been back. However; I hate we he runs his mouth about us being, "not where we need to be." If he would quit smoking the chibba during the offseason and go to some drug test and be able to start a season with the rest of the team maybe we would be where he wants us to. The amount of praise that guy gets, but he still makes stupid decisions off the field. He is a great player, but he should keep his mouth shut about being ready.

They should just cut that idiot. Freakish talent doesn't mean much if you do not have a brain in your head. Can't believe the Rooney's haven't dropped him yet.

It cost us nothing to retain rights to him while he's suspended, and even after his suspension is over he's dirt cheap to keep. My guess is that he will have a chance at redemption (again) before he gets axed. Let's hope the year off helps him get his priorities in order.

We can all hope, but the fact that the kid has an incredible opportunity and consistently blows makes me not want to hold my breath. Two-words: Trade bait

Well, given recent situations with guys like Justin Blackmon and Josh Gordon, I see zero trade value in Bryant right now. Nobody is going to risk anything more than a conditional pick, and if the conditions that would be attached to the pick are met, I'd rather have Bryant than the pick. Maybe after reinstatement someone would give us an unconditional 6th or 7th, but I'd rather gamble on Bryant getting straight enough to play.

It's possible after 10 games if he follows all the rules and doesnt screw up again, goodell could reinstate him, we could certainly use him in our last 6 games....

I'm not talking about just the Patriots game. But in that game we should have used Bell's legs more. We had a back up QB playing, expecting your back up QB to play mistake free ball is stupid. We needed to eat up clock and drive the field. Our defense put us in position to score more points then we did. How many turn overs were there? Defenses have as much success stopping Bell as they do Brady. It's not just the quantity of runs either. There are times you run the ball and times you don't. Obviously the last quarter it was a time to pass...how many of those passes yielded zero or less than 5 yards? How many yards would Bell have had? 4th and 2 and you don't run Bell . you attempt a 54 yard kick? How many times were we in 3rd and long becuase of failed pass attempts on 1st and 2nd down?

My point wasn't just the Patriots game. The orignal post questioned Bell's stats. The reason he doesn't put up huge stats is becuase we rely on Ben's arm almost all of the time. If Ben's off we lose, and so far this year we've lost huge. Our game plans are high risk game plans that ask for perfection while throwing deep balls more than any team in the league. Going up to bat trying to hit a HR isn't the best way to get on base. The patriots game plan is a perfect example. While we were throwing deep balls and the occasional run... the patriots were running the ball and going with high percentage passes. They drove the field over and over and it wasn't from 30+ yard plays... it was by getting first downs. 3rd and 1... the patriots run a sneak for a 1st down. Would we ever do such a thing? How many times do we throw deep balls on 3rd and short? I'm willing to bet more than any team in the league.

You also mention execution. It's the coaches job to prepare your players so they execute the plays given to them. If we can't execute the plays then they are not prepared or its the wrong play called.

Really? That's the first I've heard about anything other than a minimum of 1 year. Do you have a link to a source that explains how he could be reinstated? I'd love that to be the case, but it contradicts everything I've read on the situation since March.

With goodell you never know, I'm just using wishful thinking that his rehab is going well and goodell will dangle a carrot for him, of course ben is still mad at him for lying to him...

    I agree.
If the Steelers were wanting to make a statement and release him when this first happened I would have been ok with that.
No real reason to cut him at this point though.

He had that option in the beginning if he would have appealed it was rumored he'd only have to serve 10 games. They chose to not do that because if I recall correctly it had something to do with when the suspension would start and end if he lost?
Either way that 10 game option is off the table.
