    I'll bite, why?

Mitchell wouldn't even crack my top 10

    1. Decastro - not playing to contract/all pro status
    2. Shazier - sorry it's a huge disappointment for such a talented player to continue to struggle with injuries
    3. Wheaton - he's never been more than average, but this year he's been terrible when on the field
    4. Eli Rogers - All that preseason and week 1 hype seems a distant memory
    5. Tuitt - really expected more this year
    6. Timmons - the writing is on the wall
    7. Jarvis - not like we expected 10 sacks, but occasionally making a play would be nice
    8. Moats - same as above
    9. Harrison - the tank is empty
    10. Burns - for every great downfield play he makes, he makes 5 terrible plays around the ball carrier.

No scientific data to support my claim, but my general observation is that Mitchell is always looking for the blow-up hit and does a less than adequate job of playing the ball, has below average ball skills and seems to struggle from the neck up. His post whistle garbage needs to stop now. He's not a difference maker at safety. I don't disagree with your list, but I do think Mitchell has to be in any conversation about disappointing players.

Hard to disagree with this list.

For those listing Mitchell, think back to just how many times he has separated the receiver from the football in pass defense this year with jarring, legal hits. It has to be at least 4-5 times, and at least one would have been a TD. Yeah, he had some dumb PFs Sunday, but he's a net contributor IMO.

I am more impressed with those thinking Mitchell has been a disappointment at all.

If anything, out of the entire defense, the safeties, regardless of who they are, has been the bright spot all season; Mike Mitchell or otherwise.

These two hurt more for me than the others. I really thought Tuitt was going to explode on the scene this year for his possible first pro bowl berth and for DeCastro to have another All Pro season...

... sadly... possibilities vs. reality are two different things.

Agreed. The reason I had Rogers/Wheaton ahead of him is disappointment is because they are compounding.

of course, if he wasn't so off the radar, Ladarious Green should be on the list.

Those 3 injuries have really hurt our ability to exploit the middle of the field.

He continues to be a rock on the back end. His coverage skills are underrated.

I believe you've got to watch the ALL-22 tape to be able to really judge a safeties game. It's all the balls that DON'T get thrown downfield that really highlight his game.

I am not disappointed at all in Mitchell, I think he does his job very well. I hate the stupid penalties, and there's probably a play or 2 that look bad each week... but there's 55 other snaps of lockdown center field play. He takes great angles, has high football IQ and makes great reads on the back end.

    He's a really good safety

Do not attempt to tell the other fans this or you are slated to get an ear full (seriously.. I tried.. it did not end well for my sanity). For the receivers , the Eli Rogers hype was out of control from the first week of the preseason and Wheaton has had his moments but he really is just good enough.

As for Green, me the same.

    Agreed.

How many quarters have we played with Mitchell, Golden, Shazier, Heyward all on the field together? lol

My pick is ben. Why he's not scoring 40+, while rushing for 200, And holding opposing teams to under 10 baffles me

12 if I am doing my math correctly given the fact that Shazier has not played since the Eagles game.

    Week 1= 4

    Week 2= 4

    Week 3= 4

    Weeks 4-current= 0

Shazier only played about 50% in week 3, and Golden only played 10 snaps that game.... so it's more like 9 quarters.

I'm sure you're right. I don't have the time nor the desire to watch the ALL-22, so I rely on you guys to fill me in. I'd just like to see him commit fewer stupid penalties and I always kind of like it when our safeties get an INT now and then. I don't know, maybe Troy spoiled me. :smiley1:

Oh... should have left my original statement less than 10 before editing it out then... thank you for that information. Much appreciated.

Either way... unavailability does not do this defense favors.

I am sorry my friend, but he is pedestrian, non game changer. Could not wear his dad's jockstrap. Although he is
the best defensive lineman on our team at present time. Also a good leader. I like Cam, all I am saying is he is not a game changer.

He's absolutely a game changer. It's just not clear to layman.

You would think that Ja Ajayi ripping off 200 primarily running off the right side would've clued the clueless in....

I respect your knowledge of the game RPO, I am going to have agree to disagree with ya. I will stand by what I said,
he is the best defensive lineman on our team.

Coach Butler. The defensive game plan has been as weak as the defensive execution

It hasn't been perfect, but it got us 4 out of 6 games holding the opponent under 17 points even though we have no healthy quality edge rushers, a slew of injuries affecting all 3 levels of the defense and quite a bit of youth getting key snaps in the secondary. I am pretty disappointed with just how badly our defense played Sunday even with the injuries, but it's the first game this season that I've felt that the defense really laid an egg. Just my take.
