Ross Cockrell

I've been very impressed with how Ross Cockrell has developed this season. He had great coverage on the Brandon Marshall's TD catch but Marshall out jumped him and stole an interception away from Ross. I hope we sign him to a longer term contract after the season. he's a keeper and should be a full fledged starter.

 

he recognizes the routes best for a younger player. great reads and should only get better.

 

he came very cheap also. great pick up. i'm not sure how Buffalo missed his potential and the other 30 teams.

 

I think it was a numbers thing in Buffalo, they were/are stacked with good talent at the CB spot imo.

 

No other team claimed him off wavier. I guess there is about 25 teams ahead of the Steelers.

 

Tomlin said his favorite thing about Cockrell is how good he is "above the neck".

I could see Ross as the next Ike Taylor.

 

We have so many options at CB - Artie Burns, Justin Gilbert, Senqez Goldson, and Ross Cockrell.
it's a nice problem to have.

Ross could have two stumps and probably catch better than Ike could.

I already see it. He can't catch an interception just like Ike couldn't....Ha Ha

 

our secondary will be top 10 soon, D line top 5 if healthy, ILB top 10, OLB top 33 lol

 

He needs to clean up his penalties, he had two PIs and a holding call against marshall, those hurt as much as a completion and sometimes more when he commits them deep, he isnt that great, quite yet.....

 

Is that the Richard Sherman technique. Hold them all the time because they won't call penalties all the time.

 

I was saying in the offseason... I like our secondary... its the pass rush that is the issue.

 

Nothing against Ike, but he got beat it was always really bad or at the wrong times. I think this kid will "stay inside the box" and not wonder away and miss a coverage. Granted sometimes Troy was the one that made Ike look bad because he was constantly going of his instincts. especially after Clark left.

 

To be fair to Cockrell, the refs seemed to be allowing a LOT of contact, although they seemed (to me) more permissive for the receivers. I think Cockrell just tried to adjust to the line drawn by the refs.
