    *sips some Monster Energy..

Whew.... alright... time for the winners and losers. Remember greatest to least.

    *** Disclaimer ***

Keep in mind as always I do not do the superstars considering we know what we have in them.

    Winners:

    BJ Finney:

A guy who wanted to play for his favorite team had a great start. He has always been a technician.. but his ability to hit the second level was my personal bright spot for him considering that was one of his flaws. Other than that.. he was stout. Great leverage. Superb punches. Awesome hand placement. Footwork was great as well. An all around awesome performance by the backup.

    Sammie Coates:

It was only a matter of time before Sammie would break out. Granted... it does not show up on the stat sheet.. but Sammie had his best game as a Steeler thus far. Nevermind his ability to stretch the field.. but his increased route tree implies that his knowledge of the playbook has grown exponentially. One aspect that I wanted to see and saw plenty was his combative catching skills; the first deep ball by Ben a testament of this. Not only that.. he was solid in the run game.. as his blocking improved. Not much else to say. Had it not been for Finney's stout performance.. Coates propels to no. 1

    Ross Cockrell:

Outside of a couple dinky plays... Ross was in lock down mode. Continues to show that he is one of the most underrated corners in the game. Does not give up many or even any big plays. His physical play is improving as well. Look for him to have more impact as the season rolls on.

    Jordan Dangerfield:

Tackling was a point of emphasis this week no doubt. During the preseason however... Jordan took those lessons to heart. Since then.. he has been solid in special teams. Tonight.. he had his chance for his first game.. and it was a success. Some blips for sure.. but his tackling and his thumping abilities are sound. With Mitchell.. he did not give up the big plays; 14 points as a result for Kansas City.

    Stephon Tuitt:

Some may have him higher... but for me... this game was a long time coming. Still no sacks (using NFL.com stats here) but his ability to generate pressure was much better last week. In addition... Tuitt seems to be a thorn in the Chiefs side at Heinz Field having accounted for two forced fumbles against them when playing at the ketchup bottle. Held himself at the POA as you would expect and was very disciplined in his gap control.

    Jordan Berry:

His average is a bit lower this time around at 38.5... but either way... he really should be a trendy pick for a Pro Bowl invitation. Berry may even be the teams first quarter MVP given his importance and contributions. His hang times were hitting 4.9s (hand timed so forgive me) which is a good thing. If he had better weather.. 5 sec hang times would not be out of the question.

    Vince Williams:

Again, I understand what some of you are thinking. "He had 15 total tackles AQL. How is he not higher on this list?" That answer is simple. He may not be the athlete Shazier is.. but he is athletic enough to pad such stats. Add his tried and true ability to lay some wood and improved coverage ability.. and now you know why Pittsburgh extended him and why he is not higher.

    Artie Burns:

How interesting I am ending my winners list on the streaky first rounder. Granted... he has some ways to go before being a finished product... but tonight was a good stepping stone for him and should boost his confidence; critique himself even more doubly so.

    Now for the losers:

    David DeCastro:

Many of you might find this placmenet odd considering he did rebound.. but a holding penalty and some gaffes early on place him on this list. Granted... I did say I am excluding superstars... but this has become a weekly trend dating back to his "dance" with Geno Atkins. I hope he can recover because if he thought Dontari Poe was bad... Leonard Williams will be far worse as his talent far exceeds anything that he faced tonight.

    Injuries:

I had joked that Vontez Burfict practiced witchcraft to ensure that Steelers players get injured. Well... he must have been going to one of the best black magic users on the planet as Pittsburgh's injury list grows longer. Biggest was Marcus Gilbert without question; Jarvis Jones not that far behind. Tuesday is when we will find out more.... but this injury theme is really starting to get old.

That is pretty much it guys. Hope you enjoyed the game like I did.

Hey now, Landry Jones will have a great post-NFL career in 70's porn remakes with that stache.

Hey Thorn I'm curious about that sensory thing. You should start a watercooler thread about it.

I guess Artie Burns might have had the roughest night on the team.

I would not say that. He is a winner tonight after his ugly "rookie game" last week. Thing is though.. he is still learning.. as he could have broken up a couple more passes had he maintained proper depth and discipline in technique.

Again though.. that pass deflection for that potential big gain highlighted why the Steelers drafted him. His potential is sky high like Dupree's.. but he will need more time than Dupree given Dupree had more continuity playing football as opposed to worrying about issues within his own life.

I was just saying that because he drew at least one penalty and seemed to be the most picked on tonight. That was a great recovery on that sideline play though. That could have been a td if he hadn't recovered there. I still hate to see a corner trailing.

All part of the maturation process for him. Like many rookies.. he will have his ups and downs. He is a world class hurdler.

David DeCastro is the one I am worried about however. Dating back to Geno... DeCastro's level of play had been suspect... and the likes of Leonard Williams will make things extremely difficult next week given that Leonard is a top 5 talent.

winners: jarvis jones had a nice game.

timmons showed he's not done yet as alot of people think.

    bell looks good.

TE's are looking worthy from top to bottom.

    bj finney

    harris filling in for gilbert.

    cam

    tuitt

    harrison still

    losers:

special teams are not that special. they better fix the coverage or somebody is going to break one on them. they look ok one time and the next time they look lost.

defense has to keep their foot on the throat for the whole game. KC had a lot of drops that could have made this a much closer game. still a work in progress.

    Losers:
    Refereees
They seem more concerned with throwing a flag for a TD dance than getting the correct spot for 4th and short or protecting the Steeler QB when he gets thrown to the ground well after the whistle.

It did seem like the player let up on getting Ben to the ground. More a placement than a piledriver.

That doesn't excuse the player then falling on top of Ben. Can't be fun to be pancaked by a 300 lb. lineman.

Artie Burns has "it". He will continue to make mistakes but I loved the pick (I wanted him over the Cincy CB anyway) and I'm confident we have a good CB in #25.

He has a fire in his belly that's for sure. Did you see how mad he was that he wasn't able to leave off his man and get over to Kelce in time to prevent that garbage TD. That shows some passion for the game.
