Somehow, our Steelers keep dropping games that, on schedule, seem very manageable.
And, well, after a 31 point blowout, you can pinpoint several things.

I'm thinking about few issues (I'll not elaborate too much into them):
    • Our O & D gameplans were not up to the challenge, clearly. Adjustments weren't made during the game to fill that gap. COACHING
    • Our O couldn't figure out their D schemes and our Oline was never able to prevail (no pass protection even when they pressured with 4, no lanes to run). SCHEME & EXECUTION
    • Defense was not aggressive enough: no pressure, no turnovers. It looked like our D was sitting around waiting for Wentz to make mistakes without forcing him into that. SCHEME / COACHING
    • Drops +Overthrows = too many of both. EXECUTION.
    • Penalties. Enough said. DISCIPLINE
Some will say injuries. That's not the case, with a good gameplan those wouldn't have been a factor

However, it's not the end of the season.
I hate to lose, don't get me wrong, but in fact, it's probably a much needed defeat to keep player's feet in the ground and shake up a bit our coaching staff's approach: don't get too confident and underprepare, even against rookies. It's good that it happened against an NFC opponent and not an AFC foe or division rival.
We'll grow from this (our schedule helps too).

Yeah the coaching staff needs an injection of fresh thinking at this point I think.

We are a terribly coached team. Period. I'm over it. The freaking pats can come out with a THIRD STRING ROOKIE QB and DOMINATE but we can't come out with a franchise qb and the best WR in the game and a rb that was literally leading the league in rushing and do any better than what we done today? We weren't ready for this game. Period. We just weren't. This defense is not fixed and it's not even close to being fixed. Just an atrocity of a game. No effort. Got owned. This is on the coaching staff. This is on the players. We were TOTALLY outclassed today on national tv to the point that they literally DECIDED TO STOP COVERING THE GAME! I'm sorry but I don't believe this game is an anomaly. I believe that we are who they thought we were. The line got dominated. The secondary got exposed for what we've known they are all along. We still can't sack the qb. We can barely even RUSH the qb. We have MULTIPLE first round players on our defense and THIS is all we can do? Just disgraceful.

Or just "thinking" period. I've said forever that we don't look like a team with a high football intelligence quotient a lot of the time and I totally stand by that statement. We'll get a defense in a 3rd and 11 and play 4 yards behind the sticks. Yet when we were in 3rd and 4 today Philly didn't even let us GET to the sticks. That's just common sense football. We never seem to play with common sense.

I am personally interested to see how they respond next week on SNF against Kansas City. How you respond after getting your a$$ kicked says a lot about a team. It doesn't get any easy next week either.

A lot of that though is just the way they are being coached. Watch how they bring a corner or safety blitz, in that situation the CB or safety is the guy designed to get to the QB and in almost every opportunity they run right into the RB and it blows up the blitz. Today was tailor made for the death of a thousand cuts and just taking 5 yards here, three yards there but they didn't even try to establish that. our old whipping boy David Johnson misses one block and we never see double TE sets in the run game let alone a lead blocker to seal that middle gap they were just offering up. I'm not a fan of organized mutiny but sandlot Ben could have played a bit better than Haley trying to out think Schwartz today

Until we get defenders that aren't total idiots I don't foresee a change. How can we as Steelers fans be content with a defense that can't seal the deal in the backfield AGAINST A ROOKIE QB? Tuitt just straight up whiffed on an easy sack today. Gay got in the backfield and did nothing. Only Chickillo ever even seem to touch Wentz today. I doubt the guy even really needed a shower after the game today. The Chiefs d will kill us too. They have a secondary that is good. They also have a good TE. We have no answer for either of those things. Not to mention Alex Smith can run. We are not a "championship" team. Not even close.

It probably wouldn't have mattered anyway because Ben was throwing in to the upper deck and Wheaton would have dropped it even if Ben handed it to him. Also we have no threat to draw the coverage away from AB and that's a killer. I'm sure that Bryant is just at home out of his mind on drugs and doesn't even realize the season has started though. I was thinking about him today and got even more mad at halftime when I was on my way to church. His selfishness is GLARINGLY hurting this team right now because no one can really take the top off to the point that defenses will sell out to stop them. Hopefully Bell coming back will open up some shots to AB.

Ben takes the short stuff to Dwill it makes the LBs have to pay more attention that opens the safety gap and allows 1 on 1 to the outside. They send Coates and DHB on go routes and let JJ sit on that sweet spot and they are in 2 and maybe 3 to 4 but they just werent going for it. Some said in the thread that on that 4-5 call that Brown missed that had Ben thorwn it to Dwill he would have been hit right away but they guy was more covered last week and he juked and picked up the down. Heck week one the 4 down plays that actually went down field were beautiful but to throw it under the sticks on an out to Brown what the heck

KC is legit and well coached. Until the Steelers prove me otherwise, I fear another big fat L. Sigh...

Somehow the Rooneys need to hire a motivational speaker for before the game and during halftime. Tomlin is an EPIC FAIL in this category. And a terrible game planner to boot. Imagine if Darth Belechik coached our team.

How can you blame a defense that is playing two rookies. We all know that our defense is garbage already. It has been for years.

This game comes down to one thing.. The Eagles defense. We got down and out, one dimensional, and stupid very early.

Our offense has to win games or they won't win. Simple!

If someone of Bellichick's caliber someday coaches the Steelers, I'll no longer see any NFL game in my life. Mark my words

Yes, transition defense. 3 starters (Burns, Hargrave and Davis are starters on some packages). But still, we need to stop them even if their D is shutting down our O. Or, at least, create pressure.

What's funny is that everyone is always talking about how Tomlin is a "great motivator". Sigh. I just wish the game of football could be explained to our players instead of just thinking that "motivation" is enough. I'm telling you right now if Bill coached this team it wouldn't be "this" team for long because he would send dudes packing. We never really seem to do that. It's unreal to me that first round draft picks can't keep James Harrison from getting as much playing time as he does.

Yeah I mean I understand that our defense is not a good defense but it doesn't mean that we have to be as terrible as we played today. When we lose we lose badly and don't even look like a professional football team when we do it. Missed tackles. Missed assignments. Horrible angles. All of these things are things that shouldn't happen as consistently as they do with this defense. If I were a fan of ANY OTHER TEAM this wouldn't bother me as badly but as a STEELER fan I expect a dang defense that is bloodthirsty for quarterbacks and is constantly out for blood. The bottom line is, and this kills me to say it, we are soft. We are flat out, unequivocally, without a doubt, soft. That's what makes me want to pull my hair out.

I think bluntforcetrauma's feelings are the majority of how many Steelers fans are feeling or should feel.

I seriously want to know what Colbert was thinking when he drafted Jarvis Jones..

Please someone.. anyone... I need an answer...

They saw a guy whose college tape looked impressive and was projected as a top 5 guy that dropped because of an medical reason. Much like Heath Miler they thought they were getting a steal since he was all over the place in college. To me his college tape shows nothing more than dogged determination but very little in the way of finesse moves, he just keeps working until he gets to the QB or gets a faster first step than slower less talented college guys this hasn't translated to NFL and until he gets some other moves his ceiling might be more Clark Haggins than Porter/Gildon/Woodley

Yeah I DEFINITELY don't see JJ getting to the level Woodley did in his earlier and healthier years. Heck I'd about take out of shape Woodley over JJ at this point. If that dude would have had the will power and discipline he could have been a great backer for longer than he was. I still think his contribution to the Steelers will be greater than JJ's when it's all said and done. Do you think JJ is re-signed?

I think he is resigned but at a very team friendly price because he is great depth and if they start utilizing guys to scheme for pressure and sacks he could be very useful. I don't think they break the bank giving him an extension
