Seems that all of his sacks in college were when the qb held on to the ball too long

SEE! LOL! I'll tell you what's funny. He had some beastly looking plays during the Saints preseason game and I actually thought that maybe this was gonna be "the year". I actually had an idea to start a thread of "Bold Predictions" and get people on record of something incredible that they thought might happen this year. If I had started that thread my prediction would have been that Jarvis got double digit sacks this year. When I first heard Peezy say during camp that he thought Dupree and Jarvis would both have a ton of sacks I thought he was crazy. Then when I saw him play good in that Saints game I thought there might have been something to it. Now I'm back to thinking he was crazy and glad I didn't start that thread with that prediction. LOL! Do you think he will get at least 10 sacks this year? Or any year for that matter?

I think it depends on what they do schematically going forward the emphasis has been on pressure and stopping the run not so much sacking the QB. I went into this with zero expectations for Jarvis. I don't care what his draft status was or what his position is so much. I look at what are they asking him to do. I look at the field and he is around the ball constantly and there is no give up in him on plays. I'd love to see him become a force on the outside but he is still working on learning his craft. As one the guys said earlier his college tape shows few pure sacks and more where he had to keep working at it and getting after the QB which is what he is showing now. If he can just explode and then maybe spin or use a swim move to get past blockers that would increase his totals. I'd like to see him push the tackle into the guard and have Shazier use his speed to come around that edge and get the QB. I think he just needs a sack or two to get that hunger and drive.

to be honest about JJ and i said it a couple of years ago, he may be better suited to ilb or in more of a role like moats has done throughout his career. a guy that can play both. a lower level starter but a valuable guy to have on a team. he seems to drop better into coverage from the inside when they put him there and he is decent against the run. moats has made a career moving inside and out when needed. we just play him outside. he did both in buffalo. jj has been moved inside on occasion here from time to time. he's not going to fill the fort or shazier role but maybe the williams role. i think he can be as good if not better than williams in coverege.

Shamarko is what he is, a role player special teamer. His experience could
help us out going forward. Sean Davis has already passed him up.

I thought the players had to be a certain distance away, in addition to not making contact.
I was worried that Shamarko might still draw the flag, be being that close.

There was a time when you had to allow a 1 yard space on a fair catch. I don't know when that changed, but it is now:

Summary From The Official NFL Rule Book - Rule 10, Section 1, Article 1 & Rule 10, Section 2, Article 1

    Rule 10, Section 1, Article 1

During a scrimmage kick that crosses the line of scrimmage, or during a free kick, members of the kicking team are prohibited from interfering with any receiver making an attempt to catch the airborne kick, or from obstructing or hindering his path to the airborne kick, and regardless of whether any signal was given.

    Rule 10, Section 2, Article 1

A Fair Catch is an unhindered catch of an airborne scrimmage kick that has crossed the line of scrimmage, or of an airborne free kick, by a player of the receiving team who has given a valid fair catch signal.

    The Official Point Of View

"There's no space, not like college," Back Judge Michalek explained. "I don't know if college has that anymore, but there's no halo or donut.

"All he gets is an unmolested opportunity to catch the ball. There can't be any contact with him, obviously, before he catches it, and the coverage team can't interfere with the ball, or the man's path to the ball."

No need to give up on him ,he is what he is..He is a in the box Safety...If we get better at coverage and can run more man then he has value , but as a deep Safety he has very little value...

my bad ,,then i think Jones is playing fairly well..I don't think he will ever be a great pass rusher without a lot of stunts ..He plays the run well and can drop into coverage also..I think we will need a real pass rusher on the other side when JH retires to go with JJ....
