Winners: D-Will, Cockrell, Shazier, Coates, Golden.

    Losers: Ben, Brown

Not much to complain about this game. Still worried about getting pressure. We had 1 gimme sack. I'm not going to come down on Jarvis. Even though he didn't get a sack he made a lot of plays today and was especially tough in the run game.

Ben and Brown had "bad" games. I'm going to chalk it up to weather and move on.

Dnot look now but Cockrell is becoming a gamer. I'll take that freebie since we have missed on so many of our drafted CBs over the years.

D-Will is a warrior. I know Bell may be the best RB in the league, but Williams has to have an increased roll over what he was last year when Bell returned. Williams has earned as much work as possible.

Winner...Dwill, defense, young wrs, Boz and Berry (yes, both kickers)
Losers....REF's...bad calls against both teams, missed calls against both teams.
    They also effected browns effectiveness..
A whole lot of holding on him

Coates is showing potential and I love it. But he needs to play hard every play. Ben had a bad day but watching the replay right now I specifically went to a Ben to Coates play. The ball was almost intercepted and the announcers blamed Ben. What I saw at the game was Coates slowed down on a fly route. You just don't do that.

Fouts actually mentioned that on the broadcast. He said it looked like Coates didn't expect the ball and slowed down. If he's gonna gesture for Ben to feed him then he needs to keep his mouth open.

Burns missed the tackle on the touchdown Davis never really had any kind of angle to make a play
I thought the pass rush was ok
    only the one cheap sack
but we had Dalton running for his life quite a few times on third down

winners dwill, coates, golden, tight ends were winners in the first half invisible in the second, cockrell was decent against green except for the pi
    losers ben, ab, the refs

Alright guys.. sorry for the wait. Here we go. As always.. from greatest to least. This time though... I will add a new wrinkle to my list.

    Winners

    Jordan Berry:

Football is not always about "style points." If anything, I think the newer generation of NFL fans has been homogenized to believe that such is what translates into wins due to constant media showcases. My biggest winner eptimozies the antipode of the modern stigma. Football is more about the little things than the glitz and glamour. Berry showcased this by pinning the Bengals deep inside the 20 on five separate occasions. Sometimes the unsung heroes are the ones you least expect. For my money.. without Berry.., this game may have been lost.

    DeAngelo Williams:

Much like Jordan Berry.. the finer points of American Gridiron Football make it my favorite sport. It is not how DeAngelo ran.. nor was it the weather. It was the way he ran that impressed me. For a elder running back.. "Old Ironsides" wore down a Bengals front that game planned to stop the run to little avail. Again though.. it is not what he did.. but the way he did it. His consistency tired out Cincinnati.. and as a result.. the game became more wide open. One more week before Le'Veon Bell comes back and the two headed monster will be reborn again.

    Ross Cockrell:

    *** Biggest Riser***

Wow... what a difference a week makes. DeShaun Jackson is difficult... but A.J. Green is in a different league altogether. That being said, holding the All-Pro to 2 catches for 38 yards was definitely a positive for him. Quite the bouceback week. Even more so.. he finally showed some physical play in run support. If he continues is acension in said area, Pittsburgh may have found one of their best pickups in years.

    Jesse James:

I stated after the draft all he needed was some time in the weight room and some playing time. It seems that Jesse is progressing faster than I thought he would. His blocking is taking baby steps.. but he is getting better. His route running however, has massively improved since his rookie year... as has his zone coverage recognition and catch in traffic. Regardless of how long LaDarius Green is out... Jesse has shown he can carry the load. If he continues his level of play... then it will not be before long that Roethlisberger to James will become a common theme in terms of the security blanket; Eli Rodgers being icing on the cake.

    Sammie Coates:

Take everything I just said about Jesse. However.. unlike Jesse.. Sammie's athletic talent was more needed to cover the loss of Martavis Bryant. 2 big catches for 97 yards is definitely an upwards trajectory against one of the better secondaries in the league. Sammie should now have the confidence and drive to continue to work better to turn those big plays more routine. If anything, next week could be his breakout game.

    Defense:

Butler may be taking some LeBeau cues.. but make no mistake.. this is Butler's defense. The interior lineman are the stars... and the four headed kaiju of Daniel McCullers, Cam Heyward, Stephon Tuitt, and rookie Javon Hargrave negated one of the NFL'S best running back duos to under 50 yards (46 to be exact). Even though the defense gave up over 300 yards of passing again, they held yet another high octane offense to under 20 points. Even though it was one sack today... when Bud Dupree comes back and gets his rust off... watch out...

    Alejandro Villanueva:

Going up against a lengthy big end like Micheal Johnson is not easy. Even more so the weather will affect your footing. Either way.. Big Al continues to impress. Granted.. he looked a bit outmatched early.. but he settled down and never looked back afterwards. Look for him to be higher next week when he faces a Eagles front seven that has a talent not named Fletcher Cox... oh wait...

    Now for the losers..

    Losers:

    Officiating:

"We will set the tone early" they said. "This game will be properly enforced" they promised. "No way this game will be that bad" some of us believed. Then I saw Pete Morelli, cringed, and had some concern and doubt. Now that this slugfest is over.. I can confirm the NFL seriously needs to review Pete and his crew officiating abilities and whether or not they should be allowed to officiate next week. Way too many missed or even botched calls for me to even list. In short... one one the worst officiated games in Heinz Fields history and easily the worst of the 2016 season.

    Ben Roethlisberger:

    *** Biggest Detractor ***

Even with the factoring weather conditions... Ben nearly created this game into a two act play by replicating last year's home game against the Bengals by nearly costing the game as much as he was trying to win it. His saving grace though was a defense that is much improved from last year. Even so.. this performance from him is a one off scenario... so do not be too discouraged by it.

    Antonio Brown:

Same as Ben. Not reiterating a point. In addition... he will be back to his old self next week against a suspect Eagles secondary.

    Rookies being rookies:

Hey Artie. Hey Sean. Like tackling drills? You will love them after giving Gio an easy go ahead touchdown. More so disappointed in Sean however given his continental lack of discipline. Nevermind his overpursuit.. his angling today was awful..

All EDGE rushers not named James Harrison:

Jarvis being Jarvis? Check. Lack of playing time for Anthony Chickillo? Check. No Bud Dupree? Check. Again... the interior cannot keep generating heat on their own forever and Carson Wentz will run to the edges if their is no options. The edge players have to step up their game at some point because James Harrison will not be around for much longer.

Well guys.. there are my thoughts. Pretty much in line with many of you. Just wanted to to provide my reasoning as I usually do.

I forgot to mention Berry and Cockrell in my winners. Berry was great dropping them inside the 20, and Cockrell did an admirable job chasing Green around all day. Good job guys

That knee was down...it was not a fumble. The Bengals should have had the ball, and a chance to score.

DWill also had a facemask call that was not called...that would have kept a Steelers drive alive and allowed the Steelers more chances to score.

Ben took a shot to the head, another 15...that call also was not made...that would have given the Steelers more chances to score.
There were bad no calls all through this game. AB was mugged in the endzone...no call...

All you can do is play by the calls that are made....both teams did it....and the Steelers got the W

That being said...I thought this was embarrassing for the NFL....all this "we talked to the players and told them to stay calm....we talked to the refs...and told them to call it tight and toss anyone who steps out of line"

So we got two teams that played like they were both castrated, and an officiating crew that still did not call shots to the head.

I thought Jarvis actually played a pretty good and active game.

I don't understand the fascination with Chickillo

We've always had certain pet players around here. Mine was Cortez Allen for a while. Sigh. (and don't even get me started on how enthusiastic I was for Limas Sweed...but apparently even the FO was fooled on that one)

Jarvis hasn't lived up to the expectations of a 1st rd pickand I understand that is bothersome to some. But some people direct all their negativity towards him. Most of its unwarranted. The guy is playing good so far. No other OLB is playing much better, but we'll continue to rag on Jarvis.
It's kinda humorous the way some try and find way to blame him for everything.
Jarvis isn't getting any sacks, but who is?

I will remember it. and, throw it in my Bengal buddy's face every chance I get
He and I are both retired Marines. Always buying gifts for each other, he buys me Steeler stuff I lower myself and buy him bengal stuff
one time we were wearing our team jackets at the main PX at camp LeJeune. One Major stopped and started laughing. Said I can't believe you two are friends. He ask us what we retired as. Buddy said Gunny I said Sergeant Major. Silly boy apologized and left.

Doesn't matter that if he slowed on that route or not. Ball was short and to the inside. They had to slow up again just to make a play on it. That play was all on Ben. Coates could have done a better job of fighting through, but that's a bad ball by Ben.
