You were holding your breath every time the ball went to him? Ha! That's ridiculous. You are so convinced he shouldn't be on the field that you're looking past his 6 catches, chain-moving grabs and, oh yeah, touchdown he scored just waiting for him to do something bad.

His inexperience could have turned into a pick 6? He shouldn't hold the ball like a loaf of bread? You just described Sammie Coates' preseason. The poor route he ran against the Eagles that led to a pick-six and the TWO fumbles he lost. None of those things have happened to Eli (who caught three times as many passes as Coates in week one) but it's Eli that makes you nervous??

I'm guessing you were in the "Eli won't play much" crowd to feel the way you do. It's easier just to go the Glenn route, post how you missed one, and then enjoy the heck out of this kid. He'll likely be our slot guy for the next decade or so so now's a good time to start liking him for what he does (Ben does) -- not disliking him for all of the bad things he's never done.

I'm a Ben lover for sure but I can honestly say that I pretty much never take his word for what went wrong because he seems to always have this penchant for taking blame that is absolutely not his. I mean this is the same guy that wanted Max Starks here in spite of the fact that Starks was a human turnstile and was helping to get Ben killed week in and week out. LOL! I just think he takes TOO much blame sometimes.

I know what Blast is saying. New players always make me a little nervous too and have a knack for trying to "do too much". I don't think it's that he doesn't want him to be successful or anything like that. I also don't think it has anything to do with not wanting to "eat crow". Just that he is a little apprehensive about how quickly Eli was let out of the frying pan and put in to the fire. Unless I misread what he said. I'm pretty sure that's what he's thinking though. I also feel that nervous feeling when Coates gets the ball as well.

Wow, how many dads does this kid have? I've never seen the fanbase so rabid over a player, he must have chocolate flavored balls.

This is such bizarre statement and even more bizarre that you are offended by a fan being nervous about a kids first ever NFL game

Because in your eyes, since he had a good preseason in watered down games against mostly scrubs with the exception of the 3rd game, the only game that resembles an actual NFL game and one in which by the way, he only did ok. So because of that, you feel it impossible for him to make rookie mistakes, blow assignments or, run a poor route which he did and resulted in an interception, an interception lucky not to be retuned for a TD, it was a tailor made pick 6. But I'm being ridiculous, he can't possibly make a mistake due to his inexperience.

Eli made plenty of mistakes in pre season. And who gives a **** about preseason anyway, Coates mistakes against Phiily doesn't effect the standings. He also wasn't playing in his first game. And last I checked, he did well Monday too, when it counted.

I actually laughed out loud here, don't think I have ever been accused of being a hater, I usually get the rose colored glasses treatment :lolol:

But I'm not sure why you are playing dumb here, you know full well what my stance is and as for my admitting mistakes...

perhaps you would have seen that if you weren't so busy waving pompoms for him.

And since you ignored it the first time around, when was the last time a WR played this many snaps in his first game? So why is it so hard for you to understand that some fans believed that the Steelers would continue their standard MO of bringing players along slowly. No one ever said bench him either, don't know where that poop is coming from.

Also, I'm sure Wheaton would have seen some slot duty if he played, I doubt they regulate him strictly to the outside, so that will cut into Elis snaps when he comes back. Still, its easy to see Eli will be getting a lot more playing time then I envisioned.

    sorry
its well known that Rogers has little range in his catching zone
Ben being the veteran should realize this but he threw it wide left anyway. Eli did everything to make it a catch by even getting his hand on the ball
blame the rookie for coming out of break late???
sure the white athlete can't do anything wrong

Ben can do plenty wrong but I just think that in that specific instance that Eli didn't turn around as quick as he should have.

    he spun in plenty time
seems to me he spun and sat
not run out to the edge
maybe thats what ben wanted to continue
i think for sure then it woulda been a pick six because it would have been behind Eli
    no deflection
    no hesitation on the return
    my point is also
    the veteran
    the field general
    the play caller
the one who has been here for .....
    should know better
and it truly looked Ben was wide left

Well then from now on I will just post ad hominem and passive aggressive attacks on you and the threads will be plentiful regarding this ongoing beef until one of us faints from our defense of our stance and then we wake up and forget what we were even arguing about in the first place and become BFF's again. Sound fair?

LOL!!! Well the gas will just have to go up I guess. My car requires 93 anyway so I feel like I'm always overpaying. I actually just use 100% most of the time.

That's more than I care to respond to. I'll just throw out some quick bullet points:

*His balls probably do resemble chocolate (in a sense)
*I wasn't "offended" by your misdirected anxiety (I merely described it as "ridiculous")
*I only brought up Coates' preseason performance because the two things you indicated you were most worried about with Eli were the exact things that Coates screwed up in the preseason (and previous threads on this topic had posters suggesting Coates was more seasoned and Eli would get stuck on the bench -- when EVERYTHING going on during the preseason suggested the opposite)
*I'm not playing dumb, I have no idea who you are. I'm relatively new here and don't keep running tabs on who said what. I merely see comments in threads and reply to 'em. I'm certainly not attacking YOU. I was merely responding to your post. We are all fans and part of the same team here so, even though I may disagree with somebody, there's no animosity so I apologize to anybody if my tone ever comes across that way.
*I wave pompoms for all of the players. Except for Landry Jones. He sucks.
*"Why is it so hard for (me) to understand that some fans believed that the Steelers would continue their standard MO of bringing players along slowly?" I've answered that in other threads. I guess, to put it politely as possible, I find it hard to believe that after Todd Haley called him the prototypical slot receiver and the best slot receiver we've had here, "by far", and after Big Ben said he loved playing with him, and after the media reported that he was going to be starting in the slot and seeing a lot of action, and then seeing him starting in the preseason, getting first-team reps, and playing extensively with the first-team throughout the preseason, and seeing him work with the first team throughout Latrobe . . . I guess I just have a hard time understanding how anybody could fail to follow the bouncing ball. I mean, this isn't a board of casual fans. We are the nerdiest die-hards of die-hards that can't get enough from watching games and reading about 'em . . . Hell, on top of everything else, we have to come on here and talk about all of the stuff we saw and read. I would imagine this group is about as informed as anybody in Steeler Nation so, yeah, it's weird to me that so many people were slow on the take here.
*Nobody ever said bench him . . . but they said he shouldn't be on the field and should be brought along slowly. #semantics
*No. Wheaton will not cut into Eli's snaps when he returns. A slot guy is like a specialist. They will run different packages that will have Wheaton on the field and Eli on the sidelines, but when we throw out a package that calls for a slot receiver, you will be seeing Eli in the slot as often as possible. Five-wide, Wheaton will see the field. Four wide, Wheaton will see the field. Two wide and a slot guy, that's going to be predominantly (I believe that was the exact quote used to describe Eli as our slot guy just today) Eli.
