Why worry about next year? Bryant isn't helping us this year, so table this thread until February.

We had Ward, Wallace,Sanders and Brown
We have a chance to trump this lineup of talent. But, you're right...let's worry about this year now

I think you nailed it. You may want to add Lev'ean Bell to that list also. We will get along fine with out these dope smokers.
Who not only let down themselves, but teammates, coaches, scouts, front office personal.

I would keep Wheaton. I just don't think he'll command the top FA dollars to where Pittsburgh could not afford him. But it really comes down to how much they trust Bryant. Would they let Wheaton walk and put all their reliance on Bryant as the only #2? Will they even want to deal with Bryant in the future? We know the on-field strengths are there but....

And that brings up another question? If they have contract talks with Bell after the season, does that mean that they would be willing to talk contracts with Bryant and they are OK on dealing with players in the leagues substance abuse program? Or do you think they view Bryant's situation differently? If they deal with one, are they open to dealing with the other or are they looking at them individually? They will definitely not give Bryant an extension imo, but will wait until 2018 and see how the 2017 season goes. (IF that's when his contract is up, the contract is on hiatus during his suspension I thought).

    From SB Nation:

Because a player who misses an entire calendar season does not accrue a season of service. His contract, which currently runs through the 2017 season, would be extended to the 2018 season. The team literally has no financial incentive to part ways with Bryant.

If you people think Wheaton will settle for a contract with the Steelers without testing the free agent market in March '17, I've got some beach-front property in Kansas to sell ya.

He'll end up on a team with a ****-load of cap space... like the Patriots, Browns, Chargers, Rams, etc.

I'd deal Bryant and get something for him if I can?

Coates is a solid contributor. We already have a #1 in Brown. Its not like our offense is hurting.

Yep, he has to see what Emanuel Sanders did, they both have similar stats with the steelers both are comparable size, so wheaton is going to say why not me, Sanders got 15 mill deal in FA, and now he just got a 3 year 33 mill deal, so wheaton has nothing to lose and everything to gain by testing the free agent market...

Let's be realistic and honest. AB will be back. Coates will be back. Those are virtual locks right now.

Martavis will be back IF he stays clean and does what's needed. One slip and he's out now.

Wheaton is probably gone. Last year in his contract and has yet to prove he's worth long term contract. If he plays well this year it'll show heightened value to other teams and the Steelers won't get into. Bidding war for him.

Eli is on a road that if he plays well this year he'll be back. If he plays avg or below he'll be in a fight with Ayers again.

DHB is gone. His limited value can be easily replaced with youth who can actually catch.

We have talented youth in the reserves. Cobi Hamilton and D. Ayers are on the PS. They are in the WR meetings and on the practice field. They are learning and growing waiting and preparing for their chance next offseason.

Canaan Severin is on IR.... The same road Eli Rodgers took last year. Don't forget the draft, we usually take a WR mid to late rd who could surprise as has happened in the past.

Geez. I was feeling secure about our receiver corps until reading this thread. Can`t afford Wheaton, DHB gone, Bryant never playing for us again, etc. My guess is we say goodbye to pothead Bryant, DHB stays, we draft to replace Wheaton.

It's all about money. Why cut Bryant when he is signed on for '17 and '18? The whole marijuana issue is asinine. It's legal in 2 states and after November it's gonna be legal in several others. The NFL, Federal and State governments need to get a grip and stop punishing people for using or selling a harmless, naturally growing drug. Oxycontin, Fentanyl and other opiods actually kill people and are the drugs that should be HIGHLY regulated more than they are.... and on the Schedule 1 list. I blame the corporate pharmaceudical lobbyists. Bastards.

I think DHB stays too... he is like the new Cotchery... a experienced veteran WR they usually like to keep around on the roster.

I'd trade Braynt in a heartbeat, but the only reason I don't think they will is because it looks better for them to "stand by their guy" and show him support. Steelers FO right now is extending the olive branch so to speak, but if he messes up one more time it will look like Bryant has spurned them, and then it won't look as bad to get rid of him.

It's not the only reason. The fact that he's under contract, and he's shown himself to be a game changer, would be better - and more likely- reasons.
