We have had over the years. I've always envied defenses that could rush three and still put pressure on the qb. When we blitz, it seems like we used 6-7 guys to put pressure on the qb. I would love the luxury of dropping 8 in coverage while the qb is running for his life or getting sacked from a 3 man pass rush

To have that level of pressure.. you need three special talents. Not saying Heyward, Tuitt and Hargrave are not great... but that is an awfully difficult task to achieve.

Also.. keep in mind that the Redskins do not have a line constructed of tissue paper. Brandon Scherff, Kory Lichtensteiger, and Shaun Lauvo are not slouches. Adding Spencer Long and Trent Williams magnifies this issue.

That line is a tier 1 offensive line. The only reason that the running game was not as good was due to schematics. Pittsburgh wanted to take the run out of the game early and did. As such.. Washington had no choice but to pass.

3 man rush? I think you mean 4 man rush. I cant think of any team that gets good pressure with a 3 man rush. Giants had a great 4 man rush when they beat NE in the SB.

Justin Tuck honestly got robbed of the MVP in that game. Holding that offense to 14 was one of the greatest accomplishments in the history of that franchise probably.

They had the perfect attack to beat them, you can't blitz Brady, he'll kill you but harass him with 4 guys and he'll be seeing ghosts as Ryan Clark likes to say :lolol:

Brady relies on dink and dunk. 7 guys covering? forget about it. Remember when we lost Bell and played the Ravens in 2014? Yeah rushed 4 and dropped 7. Can't do much when those 4 are getting good pressure. Im sure Bell wouldve kept that D honest.

On another note, lets say hargrave pans out. Thats a mean 3 right there, who could be our 4th???

Still have to have people to give Cam Tuitt Gravedigger a breather
unless you are a fantasy football coach who believes you play them every down all game all season and let the backups ride pine

IF you have total tight coverage, then yes 3 can harass the QB. The D Line is not the issue. The lack of that true 4th and 5th pass rusher is key. Jarvis Jones got eaten up against Washington. I feel Harrison will start to see more playing time unless Jones can turn it up. Also, this Defense cannot play the same game against the bungles. Pressure needs to come from somewhere, a few corner/safety blitzes, bring Shazier, Harrison. As good as the Defense tightened up in the red zone, it was against Cousins. I hope to see at least 5 sacks today. Zero so far. Not good.

they moved jarvis around in the washington game. he dropped into coverage too. harrison didn't get to cousins either. he dropped into coverage a ton also.

cousins was getting rid of the ball quickly in that game so the patterns were shorter which gives less time for the pass rush to get there. thats cousins game. so butler, instead of wasting guys on a pass rush that wasn't going to get there anyway, dropped the lb'ers into short coverage.

we may not play it this way against red. we will need the lb'ers to stay home for the pass rush and to help against the run. the safeties will have a tough day today because of the over the top help with green. shazier and timmons will need to guard against the TE's and RB's out of the backfield. this game plan should be quite different than the one against washington. we can't go by what we did against cousins and presume it will be that way this week too.
