I know I'm looking way ahead, but when Martavis returns next season, we are going to have a log jam at WR. with AB, Rogers, Wheaton, and Coates, I don't see how Martavis is going to have any playing time. Wheaton is going to be a FA after this season, so there is a chance that he might not comeback. Or do we try to trade Martavis for a 3rd rounder? It's a nice problem to have but I hope we can work something out.

Only thing that will keep Bryant out of the lineup is smoking weed. If he's eligible, he'll be playing, the guys dynamic and makes the team better. He won't be the odd man out.

Wheaton is probably gone as his contract is up.

I think we will keep 5 ...If Martavis stays clean puts in the work we have to keep him..He is the best option besides AB....I also think Eli has locked the slot down so he stays ...Coates to much upside to let go of, he needs at least another season...DHB to much Team value, so I will say that Wheaton is the odd man out..

Bryant is the best WR on the team not named brown, and the best player in space on the team. Rogers looked good in his debut, far ahead of Coates. Unless Coates can put it all together, i see him at the bottom of the depth chart. I would try and get Wheaton signed, but if he asks for too much then he will have to go. IF Wheaton stays, DHB will be the odd man out.

Besides nobody will give a 3rd rounder for Martavis. He would need a full year of serious production with no suspensions to even try pitching him for that high.

Wheaton would need to have a monster year to come back IMO. Take the 4 we have minus Wheaton and add in Bryant and our WR group is all set.

We will still bring in a bunch of guys for camp next year, but the 5 you see is the 5 you get.

Wheaton is going to have a breakout season (+1,000 yards), and then he's going to sign a semi-large contract elsewhere at the end of the year.

After this season it will be.
    Wheaton gone

    1.Brown
    2. Bryant (pending he stopped the illegal substance problem, he's on his final strike with the Steelers)
    3.Rodgers
    4. Coates
    5. DHB or another draft pick.

He has to play first to get that 1.000 yards. But, your right he will be on another team next year.

Yeah he's listed as day to day right now, but even if he only plays 14 games I think he still gets close to 1k. Teams don't necessarily realize how good he is. AB and Eli Rodgers are going to open things up.

Just in case anyone was getting any crazy ideas - there is a zero percent chance the Steelers sign OR play Wheaton over Bryant.

It's been one game. I'm as optimistic as anyone, but I'd want to see a few more weeks of Coates and Rogers before talking about losing Bryant.

Rogers has got the goods he needs to stay healthy and keep getting on the same page as Ben ...When I look at the pick I will put that on Ben.He ran a proper curl route and was open had Ben put it on his body ....Announcers are crazy to say Eli should have continued his route ...Eli was already outside the hash and there was another WR and his defender working between him and the sideline....No way for Eli to know that the outside Defender didn't set down and pass his WR off..Had he and Eli drifts it's a pick 6 Eli ran the correct route...I am sure that's what Eli was telling Ben after the play...http://www.steelers.com/videos/vide...Redskins/1276aa52-6e85-418f-8fc3-4c2cd9e8b366

^^^^ This. Wheaton is gone after this year. Too many teams need a good #2 WR.. and Wheaton is a good #2. Steelers will not be able to match what Dallas, New England, Atlanta, etc... will offer him. As long as he doesn't end up on the Browns, Ravens or Bengals.

My $ is still on Bryant never playing another down for the steelers. He's done. We'll trade him for a 6th round pick or something like that. We don't need him and the team doesn't give 3rd chances.

They were a TD better per game with him than without him. Little early to declare he isn't needed after one game. Lets see if they can keep that up.

They control him to 2018 and costs nothing to keep him. He's going no where until his contract is up or he's suspended again.

Nope DHB was signed never released .I think even if we find a way to keep Wheaton they will keep DHB for depth and ST'S play ...I don't think they will be able to afford Wheaton , but again if they do I say they will keep 6 ....

I am not sure why people are so certain that Bryant will be back and/or extended. He won't be traded, but I am not convinced that they will keep him beyond next season. For one, if he is good next year, other teams will offer him more than what they will offer Wheaton after this year, since he is a much rarer talent (tall/fast). After paying Brown, Shazier, and possibly Bell, are we really going to have enough money to keep Bryant? Highly doubtful. That isn't even factoring in the risk of another suspension.

If we can resign Wheaton for the right price, the team's best bet might be to keep him, have Bryant next year, then have Coats/Rogers as reserves. Brown/Bryant/Wheaton starters next year, then Brown/Coats/Wheaton/Rogers for the long haul. Coats and Rogers would have this season and next to develop then we have a solid WR core for several years.

Of course they could always keep Bryant over Wheaton and have a better core, but it would be more expensive and there is always the risk of a suspension that would gut core.

    Just my two cents.
