    I have to disagree.
I think they're pretty much playing the defense exactly the way they want to. The bend but don't break defense. Now I'm not a big fan of it myself, but it Works.

What a game! Great week one opener. Was very happy to be there. First few possessions I was feeling like I was gonna watch us get stomped in person. Redskins fans cleared out at the start of the 4h and it was just banded together Steelers fans.

Not at all upset by them using that soft sone coverage after they get a lead like that. If the other team wants to catch up they got to do it by what the defense dictates and usually catching in the open field to keep the clock running. Too big a task for Kirk. Only a few teams this season I would say to stay aggressive on them defensively if Steelers had a similar lead.

Got a bunch of pregame pictures gonna skim through them for the good ones when I got time. Amped for this season. This is gonna be a fun season! Bungles next! Lets go! :herewego!:

When looking at this offense in awe... the credit goes to Tomlin and the Front Office. The investments they've made in Oline and Offensive Weapons, and the staff they've assembled to put it all together as been phenomenal. It's way too trendy for Steelers fans to hate on Tomlin/Colbert, but THEY built this.

Agreed. We don't have the pass rush or the cover corners (yet) to play aggressive.

They are simply going to give up yards without getting beat deep or for splash plays... and when the offense runs out of space in the red zone, they are going to hold for FGs. They have a 30+ point offense... they aren't going to get beat by yards and FGs. Is it going to be a problem against better offenses (in the red), yea... it will. But they are playing to their strengths, not their weaknesses, it's what good teams do.

Every time someone complains about CB cushions, i roll my eyes....

I have two thoughts here (yes that is one more than most give me credit for): Do people forget that Cousins was really good last year, especially at home. I thought his completion percentage was like 74% at home. Unless, you know of people better I am going to assume that is pretty good...and yet, our D held them to 16. I am pretty pleased with that performance. Thought two, we played that well and yet have soooo much room for improvement...kind of scary in a good way if you ask me.

the rules have put a damper on a shut down defense. i think if we can hold teams to 16 all year we will have a win every week. we have to tackle better.

I like the fact we 38 spotted a team, and had a terrible 1st quarter. But, playing Ravens and Bengals 4 times, they have much better defense than what we went against last night. It's not going to happen every week. But if we average a 30 spot every game. There will be a great record at the end.

Well, playing soft zone let the skins make it a 1 score game at 24-16, they better get back to pressure schemes for Dalton or he will pick us apart sunday, hell, even jon gruden laughed and said we was playing the same zone him and tomlin used at Tampa, you cant stay in zone for a whole game against better teams....

The offense looked great even while missing Bell, Bryant, and Green. They would be really scary if all those guys could get on the field together, this season could be special if they could stay away from the injury bug. I picked the Steelers to win the Super Bowl, and Ben to win MVP

Bingo. Essentially.. anyone else picking up '77 rule change vibes like I am? If you are.. remember what Chuck Noll did in '78 for an adjustment to both. Tomlin and Butler are repeating what their predecessor did long ago.

i think our defense played it just like they wanted to. against a dink and dunk qb which cousins is, the rush will have a hard time getting there anyway. the ilb'ers were used as DB's for the most part. we protected against the run and even the OLB'ers dropped into short zones mostly. i don't think we play it this way all year but that it was just a game plan against this type of offense.

I can't say enough good things about DeAngelo Williams and what he has brought to this team. I love his selfless, team-first attitude. He came here knowing he'd be a backup and yet, when the call has come, he's been more-than-ready. I've become a big fan.

I think we have something very special going on this year with the offense. Eli looks like he could become a star receiver. When Bell gets back, we will be even more awesome. The only question marks are within the defense and potential injuries.

I think we are primed to win the SB this year or next or both.

We have a lot of weapons and we should be able to do just about whatever we want on O ..Anything less than 30 points a game from this unit is a failure to me ...Ben and Brown have to stay healthy we need to start blowing some Teams out and getting these guys on the bench and letting the other guys get experience .....Sadly our D will keep most games to close to rest starters and build the youth ..

This is 1 thing I know that is the same as HS Football..It is a great thing to be able to rest your studs and build and prepare the back ups at the same time ..Nothing like real game experience , so just in case a guy goes down the replacement will be more ready if he gets real experience ...Put the game away early we have the fire power on O to do that...

Except this is the NFL and that doesn't happen a lot. There were 3 lopsided scores this week, Steelers were one of them. Most other scores were a TD or less, there were a couple 8 and 9 point wins.

True , but the Pats did it a bunch a few years back , I think we have that level of talent as well is all I am saying ....I just hate letting Teams that don't belong hang around and have chances in the end ...This O is to good for that against most Teams...

If you don't want opponents to have a chance, you don't put mistake prone backups in the game. Even with a 3 TD lead. You win by continuing to get 1st downs with your offense, not by putting Landry Jones and Fitzy in there to go 3 and out.

if u have a good Team and you get a 3 score lead later in the 2nd. half your D should be able to hold ..Again we differ because what happens if Ben goes down with a 21 point lead with 8 minutes left to play ? Fitz plays now anytime DW needs spelled so that should not be a issue ... If your next guys up are so bad they can't hold a big lead then you need better next guys up...

:roflmao:Mike Tomlin thinks you're an idiot.

Things can change very quickly in an NFL game (see San Diego on Sunday). We've invested an enormous amount of this teams resources (picks, contracts, cap) in our offense. And we didn't do it just so they could build a big enough lead so they can sit on the bench. We've built an offense to finish games. Our ability to convert 1st downs in every conceivable way is the strength of this team. Taking the strength of the team, and putting it on the bench to let our defense nurse a lead (a defense that is NOT built to shut down opponents), is among the dumber suggestions you've made this year. You don't play the game with a fear of injuries.

For someone who thinks our Defense is crap, and we basically got lucky vs Washington... it's a very bizarre suggestion. It really highlights the incoherence of your positions. You would think it would be obvious to you that our best defense in the 2nd half of games with a big lead (the opponent will be throwing on our terrible secondary), is the ability of our offense to get 1st downs.

It's early though, you'll probably top this shortly.

OK again if we had a great Team is what I said, I also said our D should be good enough ? Are they ? No ..Do I want them to be ? Yes..And Coach T would sit his best guys if he had real faith in the D...Every Coach with a lick of sense would ...I never said the D was crap I said our starting CB'S are not good hopefully that will be solved in a few weeks....I also don't like the hit 1st. mentality at the Safety spot , i am not sure we have a answer for that yet though...

You said we have to start blowing teams out early so we can get Ben and Brown on the bench.

That's dumb. Ben and brown aren't going to the bench with a 20 point lead and 7 minutes left. They are going back out there to move the sticks and make it a 20 point lead at the 2 minute warning.

No NFL head coach is benching his starters when the game is still within reach. And in the NFL with that much clock the game is within reach.
