If we were putting Golson on the IR, I would probably look at Alex Carter. He is only on Detroit's practice squad. I really liked him coming out of Stanford.

Sort of reminds me of the Emperor ( This is really too funny comparing Hue Jackson to the Emperor) when he came to the Steelers. He knew the guys on the team
couldn't play so he got rid of them. Justin Gilbert, others.

Agree, forget the locker room stuff, and keep him away from Bell, and Bryant.

It's not that they can't play. Just that the organization couldn't handle adversity. They'd be in games until some crap didn't go their way and then they'd implode!

We'll see how these guys do on other teams going forward.

He has to get rid of the ones that were institutionalized by the last regime so he can build "his" team.

as a #8 pick in the draft he was supposed to become a leader for them and a difference maker. he didn't. he can and we can blame the browns org. but he didn't do his part. he can talk all he wants of our locker room leadership but still he has to do his part and not cruise through on the backs of our guys that made the commitment. he can say all he wants and have all the talent in the world but until he puts it all together for his team he's just another under achiever. talk is cheap.

i'm not to happy that we keep going after guys we liked from prior drafts that are retreads. just because we wanted them years ago means nothing if they have shown quite different over their careers so far. we shall see but this trend is puzzling to me. if we made the right picks in the first place and developed our picks we wouldn't be in this shape. i still think letting grant just walk was a mistake. hoping gilbert turns it around is a gamble with the depth we now have at that spot. same with golson being expected to come in and play later in the year without even practicing in two years. big gamble.

Why does it seem like the fanbase is more excited that we got Mettenberger than a top 10 draft pick?

    Yeah, Mettenberger the blow hard.

A lot of top 10 guys aren't the elite leaders the team that drafts them needs. It happens look at DHB. He's a solid contributor though and that's what I expect from Gilbert.

Sorry I don't see the love affair for Grant. Yeah he had a pick 6 that was a straight gift other than that what did he do? He was out of poaistion a lot got lost in coverage and missed tackles. Gilbert's return ability makes him more valuable than Grant straight away. If he can get his head straight he far an away has a higher ceiling than Grant does.

I liked Grant but I don't get this association with him and Gilbert. To me, the problem isn't that we signed Gilbert (which is great by the way) its that they kept 18 RB's over Grant.

Grant may have been gone regardless of Gilbert, in fact, I'm fairly sure he would have been gone seeing who made the PS.

It's amazing to me that there are fans who are down on signing Gilbert, who has spent all of 2 years in the league on a team known for mishandling players.

You should know by now that a 1st round pick is a bust if he doesn't make the Pro Bowl as a rookie.

I still have a weird feeling about the RB spot ....I am not sure if DW has nagging injuries? or Bell rumors of getting high ? But I have a feeling something is going on that we haven't heard about yet..

grant has nothing to do with gilbert. grant not being kept on the PS was the issue. allowing buffalo to put him on their PS was a gift, because if he was on ours they would have had to put him on their 53 man roster. this way they just got one of our draft picks for nothing.

as for gilbert, like i said i hope it works out and we will see but don't annoint him a can't miss 1st round talent because he just played on a bad team. he didn't give them the just deserve of his draft status. he played 50 snaps last year. he was supposed to become a difference maker for them so at least give that team the effort. he didn't. grant at least gave us effort.

we are counting on gilbert to give us a solid corner and if he gives the same effort at that, that he gave his old team we will be in trouble. that is all he has shown in his NFL career so far. corners get dinged up during the year and we are not that deep to think he won't have to have a role beyond returning kicks.

nobody is saying he has to be a pro bowler and i'm not even sure he can bowl,:smiley1: but give us the effort this contender or even if we are a non contender that everyone in this locker room deserves. a could care less attitude shouldn't be rewarded. i hope it's not the case.

So what Grant plays on the Bills practice squad. If we need him on the 53 man roster just sign him. My guess is they were ok with him leaving. There are other guys out there who also may be a better fit.

The PS is not a minor league team.

it sure helps when there is an injury having a guy that has been in this defense for two years and knows it. yes it should be used as a minor league team when you are talking about depth at a very thin position. it at least gives you time to bring another guy up to speed. if we bring in another guy from outside on a game week there is no way he's up to speed for the next one.

If we use that approach then our practice squad should be nothing but DB'S .. That is by far our weakest position so why not stock it with all DB'S? Well and maybe TE'S as well..

OT, TE, OLB, CB, FB would be 5 good places to stack a few guys at spots we are thin at. i can see RB right now but we are 3 deep on the 53 and now 5 deep with another due back in 3 games.

If we have so many injuries that we need a CB to contribute in less than a week, we have larger issues. We have 4 guys on the roster who should be able to play. Grant MAY be able to come in and play right away, or the coaches decided he is so bad it wouldn't matter.

so many? we have 2 and a guy that just got here and a rookie that has missed time in camp. that's it. we have a safety that had to learn the slot role and he's also a rookie.

If you pay someone between 10 and 25 million dollars as a first round draft pick and they don't make at least a good run at the Pro Bowl, they are a financial bust for sure, maybe a total bust as well.

    Its simple economics.

I agree that he was a mega-bust for Cleveland, however he still has the opportunity to be something. Those 2 seasons in Cleveland do not have to define his career. I'm giving him a chance.

Sometimes you just have to let go. Grant was nothing special. I was in favor of them drafting Gilbert, but let's be real here, ANY corner the last few years was high priority. So now they get him for a saw. What's to say? If he works out and taps into what made him a 1st rounder in the first place, score. If not, no harm, no foul. The Golson injury I believe will be hard to come back from this year. Personally I would shut him down. But that's just me.

it's not about grant being anything special but he's shown he can play and actually has practiced for two years in this defense. depth. we still need depth. far too many DB's have been drafted and let go. grant did not play that bad when he was on the field this preseason. he showed improvement in year two from year one. not trying to coach along a guy that is a 4th round pick and can give you depth at two positions is foolish. a year on the PS again would not have hurt us a bit.
