The only person who expects Golson to be back by November is Golson. And he is wrong.

I hope I am wrong, but I will bet folding money he never sees the field in a real NFL game.

He's going on IR designated to return isn't he?

Could be. I just don't think a guy who has been hurt for 2 years in a row, has never played a true NFL snap, is of much use when it gets down to crunch time. I don't see someone, anyone, getting cut to put him in the 53 man roster.

 Gilbert was a top 10 pick at CB, it's not like there's Pro Bowl CBs readily available to be had.

Using your logic why didn't we bring Mike Vick back? I don't care were he was drafted. He's a terrible corner. He's a good return guy. SO I'm glad we improved our return game. I don't like seeing Brown return punts/kicks.

We need guys that can play corner. Our secondary was horrible last season and we didn't do much to improve it.

Gilbert will play some CB for the Steelers, he may not start. They made a trade because they needed help at CB, they didn't make this trade just to get a return guy. They cut Grant and Golson is injured so they need help at CB.

Well I guess he's Antoine Blake with out the ability to tackle on defense. So sure he's a body.

That's why I said I'm surprised there weren't better corners available. His ability to return kicks is why he was brought in.

so you are saying that when the Steelers were looking at him to draft two years ago it wasn't for his CB skills it was solely to return punts?

Boykin is a better NFL CB than Gilbert so let that sink in. How much is Gilbert really going to help this secondary ?

He's here as a STer and hopefully they can coach him up for the secondary because right now I'd rather have Doran Grant playing corner.

Also, fans keep talking about he has all the tools...... Not all it seems. He's lacking he #1 tool, knowledge.... Any man can have tools but not all men with tools are mechanics!!!!!

If I had to guess they were looking at his physical skills. Thinking they could mold him in to a good corner. obviously they were wrong.

How about we wait and see him play CB with the Steelers before we completely write him off, he can't play any worse than he did with the Browns.

Has Gilbert said anything since the trade, just curious to see what he has to say.

Everyone does realize Gilbert has only been in the league for 2 years now right. He is coming to a much better place and I'm sorry that has a lot to do with it. There's a reason the good teams stay good and the bad teams stay bad.

2 years? Pfft, there are fans that will sum up a guys career after two games!

The Steelers didn't bring this guy here to return punts, they are going to see if he can be the player they vetted 2 years ago to play CB.

I like the move. If he becomes an above average #4 corner, then we paid the right price. If he fails, so what there are no gimmes and despite losing a 6th round pick no major loss. If he reaches his draft status, you end up with a stud CB for next to nothing.

Now, all that being said, at the moment I am worried about our DB depth. We have 4 guys on the roster, one rookie and one guy completely new to the system who has underperformed. Safety isn't much better. 2 guys who have never taken an NFL snap and one who just hasn't shown he can play S yet despite our trade up to get him. I honestly feel better about OLB then DB right now.

    Hmmmm...
Golson never played a snap in the NFL but some think he's coming to save us in November. Yet, here is a guy with a higher pedigree and some experience, and he's a bum.
    Hmmmmm...

Cleveland is not stupid, the guy wasn't performing on & off the field. It's a high reward low risk gamble. He has been a bust so far, let's hope that can change now that he's here. Since he don't know the playbook, he may get the Brandon Boykin treatment...

Hm? Considering they have had well over 28 quarterback changes since their rebirth in 1999; consistent futility no less, I do not think that makes for a smart braintrust.

If anything, Hue Jackson wants this team to be his and his alone. Any player not his would have been cut anyhow. Considering the bevy of picks they had from this year and what they will receive next year... Cleveland Cleary is in rebuilding mode. They will stay in said mode until 2019; 2018 the best possible outcome.

How can anyone tell what he could have done if they had let him play, 3 starts in two years doesnt say much about what he could have done there, on the other hand it says a lot about how they develope their high draft picks.....

we will be using sean davis as the mainstay cb/s tweener. shamarko as the other. i can see this as the gears turning in their heads. gay, cockrell, burns, davis, gilbert, thomas using the safeties as the dime which also helps the backside tackling. mitchell and golden as the mainstay safeties. davis and shark will be playing in more of a duel role.

If he does nothing but return kicks past the 25 he was a steal. I think a fresh start in a new (winning) organization will make him a better player. You can't coach size or speed and he's got both.

Gilbert passed his physical and will practice today. Listed on depth chart as second team corner behind Gay.

    Jersey number 24.

He can be coached up and i'm betting he surprises people:

    Fansided said this about gilbert:
Remember, also, that there remains a market for an athlete such as Gilbert. Somewhere out there is some head coach or defensive coordinator who would love to get his hands on Gilbert and show that the Oklahoma State product is merely yet another victim of the culture of losing that continues to infect the Browns.
