If I have to drive to his apartment and wake him up every morning at 5:30, make his coffee, then drop him off at practice at 7:00- I'll do it.

Yeah and the first part of his rookie year he played like a beast. His brother just came out this year if I'm not mistaken.

It's a bit of a red flag when a divisional opponent trades away a player to a rival, but when the Browns are involved, all bets are off. They probably figured we'd pick him up on waivers anyway, so might as well get a future pick from us out of it.

the Browns were all giddy and punch drunk about the pickup of their franchise punter

seems to be a good pick up for us

See, Colbert listened to the fans when they said he won't draft DBs in the first round. He's just going about it rather circuitously.

This is essentially a win win. Even if Pittsburgh loses a 6th round pick.. there is no reason to believe that Pittsburgh may get more compensatory picks in 2018.

This part is key. Considering what we saw from Artie... so far so good (even if for a game). How he handles someone like Gilbert and Burns is going to be interesting. Gilbert is not even 5 years removed from his combine.. should he should be just as athletic as he had in 2014 and Burns is a world class athlete.

I am hoping Lake can exorcize some demons.. but we will have to wait and see.

No harm. no foul. Hopefully coming to a winning historic franchise will change his attitude and he will contribute.

I remember wanting Gilbert as a possible draft pick. Never really watched him play, so I can only hope that playing for a competitive team will motivate him .

The Turds to here is the freshest of fresh starts. We got a complete unknown with great potential for essentially nothing. You do that all day, every day.

I'm just glad Colbert stopped signing those midget CBs, except for that china doll Golson :hehehe:

He was a phenom from an athletic standpoint. My personal thought was that if he gets coached properly.. he could have had similar success like we saw with Marcus Peters.. minus maybe an interception or two.

... Unfortunately... that was not the case when I saw him go to Cleveland.

I love the deal. He has every physical attribute you look for in a corner, and if the change of scenery makes the light switch on, look out.

The issue was that LeBeau did not really care all that much about size nor length during her tenure here. So long as the edge rushers generated heat, the idea was that those undersized players could make plays underneath the routes.

Sadly for Golson.. this just does not appear to be the case..

I find it funny that along with Gilbert, the Browns also cut Pierre Desir. I was very high on both guys in the 2014 draft.

Why not load up on two prototypical Steelers corners then? Considering it is a weakness... make that into a strength.

Mmhmm.. Boundary corners with HWS (Height-Weight-Speed) and some serious length to challenge vertical threats and no 1's.

One final note.. much like Cleveland, this pickup marks the official epilogue of the LeBeau defense and marks the prologue of Keith Butler's (Mike Tomlin's to a greater extent as well).

Back in 2014 I prayed this guy would fall lower in the draft, and he didn't. His time in Cleveland found him with huge expectations from day 1 and whether it was poor lay, bad attitude, or the injuries he had, he struggled mightily. A new team for literally a non exist draft pick in 2018 is all he's worth today? I will take that gamble all day!!! I'm sure JG understands this is his last stop if he shows up tomorrow with the same BS he brought to Cleveland, so I expect to see something more. Now, does this mean this guy starts day 1? Will he play outside? Guess we shall see

How many defensive coordinators did he play for in Cleveland? 3 each year including this year?

Justin Gilbert is a weak tackler and does a poor job of pressing receivers. You can't teach toughness which makes Justin Gilbert the absolute opposite of our best CB we've had since whenever Ike Taylor has drafted. Under Labeau's defense DB's relied on sound tackling always trying to keep the play in front of them. Ike was a great tackling CB, Ike was a tough as nails against the run, Ike was fast as hell, Ike could f*** up receivers at the line, but Ike was lacking in ball skills and one on one coverage. Gilbert was touted as a great covering DB but never lived up to the hype. This move just shows that we don't have the talent in the pass rush/safety positions to allow for the type of DB Ike was or the defensive scheme that was once orchestrated by Labeau. Not to say Keith wasn't a major part of those great defenses or he's inept at coaching but the talent level of positions has changed from what were used under Labeau to what we have now (Troy being the best safety of all time,) . Not to say we don't have amazing talent on defense i.e. Shazier, Heyward, Tuitt, Timmons, etc. but its different and we are more needy at certain positions. Hopefully Gilbert gets some interceptions but don't expect a shutdown corner. Our pass rush need to step it up. And THANK GOD TO BIG BEN AND COMPANY ON OFFENSE.

This young man needs an attitude adjustment, as someone else noted when a divisional opponent
trades you a very high draft pick for nothing you better asking yourself some questions. Maybe the light will go on? I have my doubts.

The Browns sound like they just cut everybody. Probably easier than fielding a team to lose every week.

What's bizarre is that when they drafted Gilbert, they actually looked on the up. Colossal waste of talent in the team that was getting built there.
