What are you talking about? Like I said that was from his first 2 games against 2 of the best rushers out there!

Of course he looks better or they wouldn't have let him keep the job all the way through the playoffs and let Beachum go!

No they shouldn't, LT commands a lot of money. That money is for DeCastro he's the more proven player.

Pittsburgh is not extending Alejandro Villanueva for any contract purpose. Mac already stated that the LT position commands hefty amount of resources; all the more reason that the Steelers have yet to have a offensive tackle to be placed in Canton and nevermind have not selected a offensive tackle in round 1 as far as I can remember.

It is not that Pittsburgh cannot invest in a tier one tackle. Tomlin and Colbert definitely could if they desired. The issue comes as to why invest so much into one position if there are options just as good in other areas.. namely the interior. Much of Pittsburghs success was built on the inside out (literally) and have served them well. If anything.. it is now more difficult to acquire a tier one guard or center like a Zack Martin, a Nick Mangold, or a David DeCastro then a tier one tackle like a Joe Thomas or Tyron Smith. Defensive coordinators will now align their best pass rushers towards whatever mismatch there is in the line. The Left Tackle position is still important... but is no longer the defacto choice to build a line around. For the Steelers... last time I checked... two of their offensive lineman that are in Canton are interior players; a third one on the way.

Should Pittsburgh extended any offensive lineman, it is David DeCastro and that is it. Pittsburgh has won six super bowls without a tier one left tackle and they will be still winning SuperBowl titles soon after.

We had a great left tackle who played from 69 to 81 in Jon Kolb, he played in all four super bowl wins: he just never received the recognition he deserved.........

    From Wiki:
Kolb started at offensive tackle in 177 games and earned 4 Super Bowl rings, during the 1974, 1975, 1978, and 1979 seasons.

During his playing days, Kolb was widely regarded as one of the strongest men in the NFL and played like the strongest one, protecting Terry Bradshaw's blind side from his left offensive tackle position on pass plays and opening holes for running backs Franco Harris, Rocky Bleier, and John Fuqua. Like many of the Steeler players of the 1970s, Kolb had his own cadre of fans, known as "Kolb's Kowboys.

Never stated Pittsburgh was incapable of getting a great left tackle. Stated that buidling on the inside out seems to be their modus oprendi.

we have had some pretty good LT's over the years and it's not even fair to compare them to todays game and needs of a LT. i just think with what AV is making now and a fair offer to increase that would be much easier to do right now and have another o-lineman happy and in place to create continuity for bens final years. i don't think we would have to break the bank to do this for al. now if he has a decent year and becomes a FA, it will cost us that much more next year or we end up scrambling to fill that void.

Pittsburgh has never had the need to break the bank for a LT considering they do a good enough job to get paid adequately.

How long is AV under contract? Next year the majority of their money will be going to AB, maybe that knucklehead LeVeon also if he gets his act together.

He'll only be an Exclusive Rights Free Agent. The Steelers technically only have to tender a minimum qualifying offer.
