least afford to be without this season?

my guess is shazier needing to be on the field fully. i just think we will be so much better with him on the field. if we had to have one injured who would hurt us the most? hopefully nobody but.....

It is either Shazier or Heyward for me. Heyward routinely commands double teams now that he can one gap in the new Eagle scheme and Shazier is too important a chess piece. While I do like Vince's abilities in run support.. his pass coverage is to be desired.

Regarding Heyward... unless LT Walton steps up (or the others) the DE's are looking a bit thin considering we do not know what we have in Mattews or Lyons at all.

    Definitely Heyward/Tuitt.
Last year we at least had McClendon who could play that DE role. This year we have a lot of unproven players in our scheme.
While Shazier would be a big loss at least there are backups V. Williams and even Timmons to a degree (I know he starts). They are both proven though and scheme could be adjusted to their strengths.

i think heyward is huge in this D but my feeling is we can do so much more with shazier on the field. a lot depends on our rookie and if he can play a little of that role mcclendon played as a NT/ part time DE. alot is yet to be seen with our front this year.

Heyward or Tuitt. There isn't any depth behind those two, plus being a 3-4 end is one of the hardest positions in football. We have depth behind Shazier with Vince Williams. You can get by and win with Vince Williams. Lose Heyward or Tuitt, it will get ugly trying to stop the run.

Losing Heyward would hurt us the most IMO.

Heyward, with Shazier a close second.

    I echo the Heyward/Tuitt sentiment.

He was my initial thought as well but man I'm ready to see some corners step up. We can not afford to get torched on the edges like we did last year. I know we've always been of the philosophy that our backers sorta cover the inadequacies of our corners but it's time for our corners to get it done on their own. I say our corners will get tested early and often this year so they had better step their crap up.

While cornerback does deserve some consideration, the depth of cornerback has been boosted by Artie Burns, the signing of Donald Washington and the return of Senquez Golson; ultimately making that position far more stable than the defensive ends.

If either Tuitt or Heyward go down... ouch. LT, Ricardo Mattews, and Cashaud Lyons all need to have some type of break out preseason to ensure that at the very least they can perform good enough to fill in for either.

Now... losing both may cost Pittsburgh the season UNLESS Bud Dupree and Jarvis Jones turn into the 2008 version of James Harrison and Lamar Woodley out of the gate to ensure any form of generating a pass rush.

Losing both Heyward and Tuitt means Pittsburgh can kiss its Super Bowl aspirations goodbye.

i for one think we will be much improved behind tuitt and heyward compared to last year. cam thomas being gone improves that a whole lot. year one to year two for a few guys will be quite different. mitchell has been doing this a long time and should have our depth ready.

not good seeing cam in a boot. this will hurt as many have said if he's out for any significant time. if it is a high ankle sprain i'd hope they let it heal because i have seen way too many times guys try to come back early from these only to have it happen again and then it takes even longer.:cool:

Heyward was my first thought so that's what I'm going with. Gay would be bad too because we don't have much experience on the edge.

Lol! The younger kids at work say that and me and my older buddies decided it was a generational phrase because they say it ad nauseum.
