Wouldn't successful plays make a better evaluation? And wouldn't those same playa lead to more points for and less points against?

Lol, there you go Glenn, stirring the pot. I'm sure someone will answer, but I think you know how most feel about this. Let just say Ben please just throw it away and not get sacked. We go where he takes us!

He said we didn't have options behind Ben. Those are options. May or may not be good options.

It might be pointless to other teams but for us I think it's important. Especially since Tomlin was hired. We always start slowly in the beginning of the season and look totally lost. Tomlin IMO hasn't done a very good job balancing evaluating talent and getting the starters ready for the season.

I would of played our starters except for Bell. But not very long. Maybe a series or less. If you are healthy you will get to
play in every game. How long depends on how well you play, your position on the team and/or seniority.

But people forget that we didn't make the playoffs last year. We got a gift from the Bills.

Disagree, we had to have the wins in order for the Bills to give it away.

I never understood what playing 1 series accomplished.

Some players need the reps, so those are the starters that are playing. Ben and AB do not. At this point, it is more important to see what Richardson and Touissaint have versus what Bell and DWill have.

Let's not forget, last year we started against the Patriots, then started winning until Ben got hurt. In the game against the Pats, with our new Defensive coordinator, he obviously forgot to tell the players that they should abandon whoever they were guarding and to guard Gronkowski - pretty much the whole game. Had they done so...and Ben not been injured...perhaps last years start wouldn't seem so "slow" in our memories.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the Bills win that game we would not have been in the playoffs or was it the Jets who had to win? Either or without help from another team we would have been looking at the playoffs.

And if it wasn't for the immaturity of the Bengals we would have lost that one.

I believe that Ben and AB could use the reps against competition other than our secondary.

It's not Richardson and Touissant wouldn't gotten reps. It's only a handful of players that will make the team. You're going to eventually cut 40 players. I'm pretty sure by now they know who's going to make the team and who's not.

First four games of each season under Tomlin.
    2007 3-1
    2008 3-1
    2009 2-2
    2010 3-1
    2011 2-2
    2012 2-2
    2013 0-4
    2014 2-2
    2015 2-2

Except for 2013 where's these slow starts? And remember you said always.

Quick get Vegas on the phone. Ben will miss games guaranteed. You might be right there Druankard but I think your statement leans towards surmising. He may miss every game or he might not get injured at all this year.

Even when the Steelers do win in September... under Tomlin or Cowher, it's always sloppy and erratic. History has shown more often than not.. the Steelers are not playing good, crisp, fundamental football until October. It's like death and taxes.

Teams like the Cowboys, Patriots, Bengals and Eagles are the champions of September.

You could have said the same thing in 2003 about "the last few years":
2002 - lost 14-30 to a Patriots team that didn't make the playoffs
2001 - lost 3-21 to the Jaguars, who ended the season 5th out of 6th in the AFC Central
    2000 - lost 0-16 to the Ravens

The team is still recovering from the loss of key veterans.
Better to get the young players ready for the majority of the season, than to have them peak on opening day.
