Waiting for the cuts. I don't think they will open up for a trade. They will hope Ben has a injury free season and roll the dice on Scrub Jones.

The Wheaton trade idea is intriguing though. Some one would take a look see but what would they get in return?

Matakevich has the It factor. Saw it at camp and he continues to impress.

If we trade, it should be for a TE

Actually a TE, a #1 CB,a #2 CB, a FS, a SS, a #2 QB, a #3 QB a OLB ....All of these spots are not really solid at all...
So the Steelers should have next years draft board we still need at least 2 more DB'S ,we need at least 1 QB, at least 1 OLB and at least 1 TE ..They should be setting that up already, pretty sad to go into a season knowing you have that many spots to work on , but that is really how it is...

On the bright side we look really good at ILB,WR and RB ...

I don't think were as far off with the secondary as most. We do have some work to be done there though.
As far as trades go I don't see a whole lot of options for trade bait for us.
The ILB's like Johnson,Fort and Dirty Red are not going to bring a big return in a trade. At least not at this point. We as fans over value them cause they play for us and we watch them play.
Guys like DHB are are more valuable to us to keep then what they'd get in return on a trade.
Wheaton may be a candidate, but if you're going to trade a starter you have to get one in return.
Timmons, Maybe, but again probably more valuable to us than what we'd get in return on a trade.
Not alot of options without weakening another area.
Trading Draft picks are probably the only way we get a trade done.

The only player trades they can make is a starter for a starter, players who might look good in camp have no reg season stats that gives them any credibility....

He has value Mac, but, I don't think they would risk it at this point. I'm sure the front office is thinking about next season with both him and Timmons being FA's. He is a solid player but if they are pondering resigning Timmons, maybe not a bad idea although it would leave the inside without a vet as a back up.

We all know Vince is a decent run stopper. I've noticed they are playing him in coverage a lot and he's getting a lot of snaps. In the second half vs the Eagles he played tired, moved much more slowly and had several missed tackles. I don't think he'll ever be a full time LB and if the Eagles would give up Rowe for him I'd pull that trigger.

I think V. Williams and Marcus Wheaton are 2 steelers that would be offered. Please don't get me wrong
I like both players, but in trade deals you have to give something of value to get something of value.

LJ Fort and Dirty RED our capable and Eli Rodgers are capable, you can do the math.

    Poor old Marcus Wheaton.

Whenever there's talk of trades, he's the first name people reach for.

I've been a big fan of Coates since he arrived, but I wouldn't say he was at Wheaton's level yet. Remove Wheaton and our receiving corps takes a significant hit.

Not really as Rogers is a better slot WR than Wheaton, and with no real TE at the moment the slot is more important than the outside ..IMO Wheaton with his current contract situation coupled with the Team needs is the ideal guy to put up for a trade..

With no Bryant and an unproven Coates, Wheatons not going anywhere. Until Eli does it in the regular season against teams starting units and not preseason scrubs, I doubt they risk relying on him. At least I hope they are smarter than that. Eli looks to have what it takes, but he's playing against inferior talent right now.

the size of and the way they have been using him, i think we may even keep cobi hamilton and utilize some of our size and speed at the wr position. fresh legs in a rotation and making the defense chase these guys around the field all day bodes well for us. i like wheaton myself. we can easily overcome a deficient TE situation with all types of offense.

I trust my eyes,I also trust AB and what he sees in Rogers..Ben knows what Eli can do ...Coach Haley even states he is the real deal, so he has the goods no need to wait if we are going to make a move ....Doesn't matter the competition level so much in the slot , because he is really playing against the DC'S, he finds the holes in zones and he is much better than Wheaton at that ...He also shows very strong hands which also has nothing to do with the level of competition..I contend he is much better than you have seen because of the QB he has been working with, he will only look better Wheaton is not needed in the slot ,Eli is better period...

Trades are so rare in the NFL, especially player for player trades, making up fake trades is silly. Markus Wheaton? C'mon, man.

ok super scout. Wheaton isnt going anywhere. No team will weaken their receiving corps by relying on two unproven players. Want to bet $20 on that one too?

I would guess they only dress for wide receivers on game day? If so who's the odd man out?

AB and Wheaton dress for sure. DHB almost certainly. Leaving Coates and Rogers to choose from. Given those two, I'd say Rogers sits.
