Fair enough as I don't hate LJ ,I just don't believe in him either at this point ..I agree LJ is firmly the #2 at this point , but I don't think that is good enough at this point either...I hope him and Vaughn get much better or we find another QB to take a look at as well.. I still really like Marquise Williams he didn't look to bad for GB..He is still my sleeper of the draft I doubt they cut him , but if they do we need him..

Nobody has mentioned it,but I didn't think Villaneuva looked too good. He got beat a couple of times early in the game. And given how few offensive plays they ran early, that was a lot.

At this point LJ is the likely number two and I dont see that changing unless he gets injured and they have to shop around for some teams cast off....

Charlie Batch arrived in 2002 but didn’t throw a meaningful pass until 2005.

you know i'm all for the GB BUQB

    and he was ubdrafted
just goes to show you like you said our coach staff have zero imagination in getting a player who with out a doubt is multifaceted on O n D

I'd take a look at TJ Yates tooooooooo
    playoff experience

I agree. He committed the illegal hands to the face penalty and got beaten badly for a sack. Both times it looked like he set up too far outside. Bad technique as well.

    My conclusion:

Too many camera shots of Tomlin looking pissed.

Every single player needs more reps.

Had a few decent plays (and I mean a "few") but no individual players jumped off the page last night.

Will therefore hold any detailed conclusions until the end of pre-season game 4.

Williams is runner not a passer, Yates has been hot and cold he needs more finesse in his game, if you all want another Qb then why not trade for the bills 1st round draft pick EJ manuel who has been firmly replaced by Taylor, he's expendable.

I think Williams is a passer as well, I think he throws the ball pretty well and once Teams see that he can make all the throws they will be kicking themselves for missing him late in the draft ...He is a runner because he can run not because he wants to be 1 ..He is very similar to Rogers a big Strong QB that can run if needed he will learn a lot from him in GB...

They drafted Brett Hundley because he is similar to Rodgers, williams will be competing with callahan for the 3 spot, but hundley was drafted in the 5th round to be the backup, he has impressive passing and rushing stats....

Yeah they say he climbed the pocket, but the pocket wasn't much. He seemed to not step into some of his throws (again maybe because of the pressure)

Just arming it out to the flats against first strings gets you pick 6's.

    SKILLS PLAYERS

    QBs

Landry Jones is awful. His upside is a poor man's Kent Graham. I just think they need to cut ties with the guy. He flashed capability for, like, two quarters last year (thanks, in large part, to Martavis Bryant's YAC and leaping ability). I don't even know that he can manage a game. Landry, step into my office, cuz ur F'ing fired!

Bruce Gradkowski. Two of us last night both cracked jokes about how Bruce probably hurt himself on his run last night -- only to find out he really did hurt himself. How long are we gonna pay this guy to sit in the lobby at Urgent Care? I think he's a better backup than Landry, but he can't stay on the field.

Dustin Vaughan. I saw his praises sung at least once on this thread but I beg to differ. Dude sucks. He's not an NFL quarterback. Send him to NFL Europe (if that still exists) to let him work on his game since his upside is holding a clipboard for the Montreal Alouettes.

Tarvaris Jackson is out there. Does anybody here think Landry, Bruce, or Dustin would be more valuable to our team than Tarvaris Jackson? Go sign, Tarvaris. Now. Go do it. Do it now. Hell, I'd even take TJ Yates over these inept buffoons.

    RBs
Darryl Richardson should be our third running back. Period. End of story. In 2012 he averaged 4.8ypc on nearly 100 (98) carries. Sam Bradford played the full season that year. Bradford got hurt the following year, they had no passing game, and his average dropped to 3.1ypc. From what I saw last night, this dude has little wear and tear, has some burst, and could absolutely bring some value to the table as our third rb. I think his upside his higher than Toussaint's.

Fitzgerald Toussaint will make the roster regardless if Le'Veon is out the first month. If not, I think he (and Stingily and Brown-Dukes) wind up seeing the coach and bringing their playbooks.

    WRs
Sammie Coates looked good last night (aside from, you know). Guy can catch and the guy can run. Just needs to hold onto the ball, obviously. I'll chalk that up to a fluke. I'm not worried about that moving forward.

Eli Rogers is the bomb. I'm beyond excited about this kid. Hands, speed, elusiveness. The prototypical slot receiver. Somebody mentioned they see him making the team as our fifth receiver. I don't think this kid will be buried on the depth chart, I see him seeing a lot of the field this season working out of the slot.

Darrius Heyward-Bey. Somebody raved about him this past week but I think what we saw last night was pretty representative of DHB. Make the tough catch, drop the easy one. Anybody seen Nate Washington lately? I did. Last night. He's DHB now.

Cobi Hamilton is the only other wr that made an impact. Made 2 tough catches for 22 yards. I don't see any other wrs making this team (probably, including Cobi Hamilton - especially since they gave him #83).

    TEs
Jesse James looked worthless out there last night. In fact, all of our tight ends looked worthless. If Ladarius doesn't start taking some aspirin then we're in big trouble at the tight end position. Might be looking at a lot of four-wide, Le'Veon as the lone setback this season. I'm actually okay with that. Run-n-Shoot time. I have no problem with Ben working from the gun with Antonio Brown, Markus Wheaton, Sammie Coates, and Eli Rogers running all over the field.

Coates and AV were the biggest individual player disappointments IMO.

Positives= Berry, Grant, Richardson, Rogers looked pretty shifty

Negatives= COATES! D was bad on 3rd Down, STILL need a backup qb in spite of the fact that Landry made some decent looking throws, Special Teams gave up a td

Bonus= INCREDIBLY and GLORIOUSLY awkward sideline reporting. LOL!

I still don't think AV is the answer going forward. I know he has a great story and I'm rooting for him but I just think he is gonna still be the weak link on that line.

It's hard to really tell who did what as we were behind the lions depth chart wise all night with the exception of our starting defense. I think Rogers showed somethings as did Richardson.

Nobody got hurt. Beyond that, I don't care too much.

Coates needs to hang on to the ball.
We need a better backup QB.
If Green isn't going to play, we need a better TE.
I'd look for vet/cut CB depth.

intensity for the team sucked minus a few players. Tomlin better be up their backsides this week in practice cuz lackluster effort is completely unacceptable. #38 was biggest positive. that and wing I wd say. Coates by far biggest disappointment. we have no tru #2 WR. we have some #3's IMo in wheaton, DHB and well, i guess that is it. coates is not even a starter at this point, he is a liability. Jones looked much more confident than last yr, but he just isn't that good i don't think. gradkowski...see ya. tho that vaughn kid is atrocious.

On a side note, I say Ben convinces miller to un-retire by game 6. they have no TE.

Tavaris Jackson is old and has been out of the league a few years, there were reports of him in a domestic violence incident with his wife and a gun. You can forget about the Steelers signing him.

Ah. Welp. Nevermind then. So beating his wife makes him unsignable? Guess he should've tortured some dogs instead.

I was just looking at the list of current unsigned qbs out there and the list is pretty weak. Tavaris and TJ Yates are the only names that really jumped out at me as upgrades to Landry. The rest of the names were either total unknowns or guys like Charlie Whitehurst (Clipboard Jesus) who, I think, would basically be a lateral move from Landry Jones.

Our backup qb situation blows. Ben must stay healthy this season.

I`m aiming this at Eddie Burro...

I agree with most of your assessment, except this...

I Thought Landry looked better than he has, until now...

And who is still available, that would be better?

I watched just a couple other games, where teams have a 4th qb on the roster, that ain`t gonna get kept...

Cody Kessler from the Clowns, ran out of the endzone, for a safety to avoid a sack, then got sacked in the endzone for another safety..

    He will probably be available...

Then, I was watchin the Chiefs vs. Seahawks, and after the Chiefs used Alex Smith, and Nick Foles, they put their 3d stringer in, who played like a 3d stringer, ditto for their 4th qb... he will probably be available...

Other than 4th stringers that get cut, who could we get that would be better than Landry?

Even Tim Tebow is taking up baseball, rather than trying to be an NFL qb...

Point being, Landry has learned our system, worked with our players/coaches, and is probably our best option, IMHO...

Even Colt McCoy is signed , some rookies like Bray, are latched onto other teams.

The Packer`s 3d stringer, might arguably be better than Landry, but we ain`t getting him...
    Who you want?

    GO STEELERS

Edit... P.S. I type slow... you already got my point. ;)

I thought the best thing about preseason game 1 was that the positives of this game will become the negatives of preseason game 2 and the negatives of game 1 will become the positives of game 2. In essence, its preseason and no deep analytical thinking or analyzation is warranted as it changes 5 or 6 times when the first game of the season is teed off. Botttom line is the Steelers make a run for the Lombardi and the other 31 can circle dates, etc to no avail.

I was disappointed in the effort of some players, Burro you make some very good comments. TE position
may be a big concern going forward if Green is a flop. Jesse James & Grimble really need to pick it up. If not we
will be in the TE market again. We better be watching the waiver wire closely for TE.
