You don't have to wait for anything, Glenn, Im not that powerful :lolol:

He can't go the Brady route though, drug testing rules are very black and white, there was a lot of gray area in deflategate.

But your very first sentence is why I am choosing to see how this unfolds.

And from the sounds of it, a lot of responsibility also falls on the testing agent with scheduling and I refuse to believe Bell is going to simply say he got a new phone but didn't pass on the new number. There is something more to this.

Or, the guy is an addict and lying and will say and do anything, which is what addicts do. We'll find out.

I'm not buying this ( I changed my phone number bit) and on the other side do you think if the tester had called Tomlin and told him he couldnt reach his boy for a mandatory drug test that Tomlin wouldnt have rounded LB up pronto and given him a good dressing down for risking a suspension by staying un available????

If the testing agent did that, then he will have proved he made reasonable effort to reach Bell. Which is all he has to do. If he can prove that, Bell is out 4 games.

The fact is LB put himself in the position of having to be tested in the first place. He's only 24 but needs to mature soon. I hope he can keep himself clean and learn to do what the league expects.

Thats fair. Bell created this whole situation with his actions in that car that day.

Hope he wins his appeal and begins emulating AB from now on rather then someone always in trouble.

    1) No game in September is ever meaningless
    2) We play Cincinnati week 2

Believe me - my tongue was firmly planted in cheek when I wrote this. I was just trying to figure out how to make lemonade out of Bell's (possible) repeat lemon behavior. I still think it's better to be better in December than September especially in light of the Steelers usual habit of mediocre starts. Last 4 years - (2015) 2/2 start and 3/1 finish (playoffs); (2014) 2-2 start and 4/0 finish (playoffs); (2013) 0/4 start and 3/1 finish (no playoffs); (2012) 2/2 start and 1/3 finish (no payoffs) - conclusion......even mediocre start with strong finish usually means playoffs. Any other combo is up in the air. I don't think Bell will become the Ryan Braun or A-Rod of the NFL (too many sympathizers for what he might be guilty of) but why would he even put himself (and the team) in this position? Hope he's been reading up on Harry Houdini!

I'm not assuming he smoked weed. Nothing there suggested that. I'm assuming he missed the test or tests because he's a dumbass and doesnt believe his actions or inactions as an employee, are/were wrong.

I hope he comes out clean and none of this matters, but still... I don't like his putting himself before the team. Don't like any of them that do that and it's becoming quite trendy these days.

Well than I don't know what he is supposed to be taking responsibility for since we don't have an official word from Bell or the NFL, just speculation on a new phone number as the root of the problem. If that is the case, I'm glad Bell is taking this stance, otherwise, might as well wrap the 4 game suspension in a bow if he was all apologetic and taking the blame now. He can apologize if he loses the appeal.

Agree. He def seems like he won't miss any games period. His side is the side we haven't heard yet, but we know the news will break any day with camp opening.

Maybe taking responsibility for missing multiple tests would be a good start as opposed to excuses. He spoke with the media today, didn't sound overly confident to me.

AGAIN, I hope he gets out of it unscathed, but he doesn't come off as untouchable in any of it. You'd think that with all the presumed league wide hate and singling out STEELER players over the years that not being an ass would be rule 1 in their welcome to the team pamphlet. Not a conspiracy guy but there appears to be an axe to grind with this team so if you screw up once you should know what's coming. These guys aren't doing themselves any favors right or wrong by mocking league stuff on their social accts... Why paint a target on your back when it's already believed the league has painted the team anyways? Unreal

And I want to be done with it so I'm done talking about it. I won't eat crow if he comes out unscathed, I'll root him on like always. But I think the kid is prone to be a mark especially while cracking jokes while in the substance abuse protocol. That's plain stupidity and he has made himself a target either way. Once a screw up always a screw up and not because it's right but that's how it's viewed. Turn around stories don't get the trophy coverage like The beating horse type do.

Look at Ben. Look at others... Terrible repetitive process but it's ingrained in bases

He made an apology today but didn't offer any insight nor did coach. They both are waiting for the appeal to be heard.

I get what you are saying Dobbs, but Bell seems like a good kid to me, when you listen to him talk, doesn't seem like a punk. Might be lying through his teeth about the cell phone but I'll give him one more strike.

Not challenging ya blast and I agree. Just tired of today's status quos and where he's fitting in at the current time. I thought he was a helluva kid coming in, but he trending downwards. I'd get it if he was being picked on, but he seems to have to put his name out there when no ones talking about him through dumb remarks on Twitter whatever. He's made himself in the wrong spotlight. Hope he shores it up.

You think these screw ups LB & MB are making aren't being documented by ART II ?
Dan Rooney? These guys better shape up real fast, they will get the Santonio Holmes treatment
real fast. And to be honest with you, It wouldn't bother me one bit. We will find other ball players that want
to play and be responsible team mates for the Pgh Steelers.

The article says they will hear back on the appeal mid August. Does that mean they will then hear when the appeal will be heard or when the results of the appeal will be heard?

We deal with and for give mistakes. We give second chances, but this organization is also known for sending repeat offenders packing. Holmes, previous year Superbowl MVP, comes to mind. The Rooney's will replace you quickly. I just hate to love such great talent, because we all know that these players would be snatched up in a NY minute

Seems there is still quite the discussion about Mr. Bell.

One of the main reasons August 18th cannot come fast enough; payday being the other. Seriously... actions like this really do take away TOO much attention.

As I posted this a while back the saga continues for the Steelers. Green and which side you believe, will Bell get his suspension, and is James gonna talk? It just keeps going......

On the upside, at least we're not the Bills!

Massively overpay a guy who then gets suspended... wow.
