Pat is a legend here in Knoxville. RIP Coach. Alzheimers is an awful, AWFUL, disease. I feel for anyone that has it.

Sorry BTF - didn't see your thread - started another under "Other Sports talk". The story link by CBS's Gary Parrish is very touching and well done.

My grandpa died from Alzheimers. Hard to see someone who was so quick witted and one step ahead of everyone else lose their faculties like that. RIP Coach.

Glen Campbell has it and a few months ago I watched the documentary called "I'll Be Me" which is about him getting diagnosed with it and trying to go on one more tour. At first you're heart is warmed by his tenacity but by the end you're almost enraged that his family would let him go out there under such incredibly humiliating circumstances. It's unreal how you just watch him go down and down and down. They say that now he doesn't even know he's in the world. Pat's was actually really aggressive and took her out pretty quick. I'm not sure but 64 actually seems really young for a person to die from this disease. Maybe I just have an image of people that are much older dying from it?

What this tells us is that it is truly a brain disease and not just simply absent-mindedness brought about by the aging process. Age is only part of the equation. I'm sure it will be tied more to chemicals, additives and genetics when they get to the bottom of it. I'm still not sure how someone actually passes on as a direct result of it unless it also affects the heart, other organ functions or oxygen to the brain.

ESPN covered this all day, she seemed like a remarkable woman, definitely an amazing coach.
