Where did all the people go who thought we underutilized Archer, etc.

Hopefully to their nearest mental healthcare facility. I was initially excited about the pick but now I'm just over these stupid project players. If our philosophy is gonna be BPA then make that the philosophy from one end of the draft to the other. I don't remember who was on the board at the moment when we picked him but there HAD to be more of an impact player than what he has made.

I may have been one of those. Though my point was more about the way people were writing him off after 3 seconds of play, rather than how good he was. Turns out they were right, though, so glad to be wrong.

Ah, yes, the people who write off players after three seconds are bound to be right now and then when they say it about every player.

When was the exact "moment" that it hit everyone that Archer wasn't going to work out? I think for me it might have been when Le'Veon got hurt and we had to play the rats in the playoffs and they go and get Ben Tate and when they actually even did try to use Archer it was just one colossal failure after another. I suppose that looking back on it that was probably a pretty big red flag that they just didn't have much hope for him. Although they basically threw him to the wolves after the Tate fumble and the rats made us even more of a 1 dimensional team after that because they pretty much knew we couldn't run.

I will show up to eat my heaping plate of stinking crow(But not Raven, I might get food poisoning)...

I was glad when we picked Dri, and I didn`t think we "wasted" a 3rd round pick on him...

I had seen him torch people with his speed on the field, when he was at Kent State,

And I believed he had the "work ethic", to continue at the NFL level, as a "Darren Sproles" type returner/ rb reciever outta the backfield...

At the time, I defended him, by saying we didn`t use him properly, because we pretty much only put him on the field, on offense, in situations, where the defense could key on him, because we had no other rb on the field, and he sure wasn`t in there for his blocking ability...

I never questioned his personality, or off-field effort that he put in...

Turns out I was wrong. Period. I admit it.

Damn shame... He had the God given speed to be a weapon in this league...

Apparently, he also had an oversized ego, that led him to think he was entitled to the rewards, without putting in the work...

That`s not how he appeared in college, but ya never really know a person, based on what the media says about him...

He always came across as a humble kid, grateful for his chance to play in the league, and had never gotten in trouble in college..

Turns out he is an egomaniac, over-entitled douche... I stand corrected...

At least he`s not Johnny Manziel... We didn`t miss any red flags in the pre-draft process, that I`m aware of...

He showed his stripes, AFTER we cut him..

Doesn`t make me feel any better about being wrong on his character...

I had high hopes for him, and I admit it... Everyone`s wrong sometimes...:eek!:

I was on record as screaming "WTF" when we drafted him. I wanted Martavis Bryant at that spot, and getting him later softened the blow of the Archer pick. Still, there were plenty of good players besides Bryant that we passed on to take Archer.

For one fleeting moment I thought I might be wrong. The first time he ever touched the ball in a game was the first preseason game vs the Giants, and he took a quick pick play slant 40 yards, and I was thinking "I might be wrong." I wasn't.

It's so great to see that you admit it when wrong. Too many here will never admit when wrong. Example is the many discussions here with the Jones boys, Javis and Landry. Many will not admit that both of these guys were mistakes. To me it's okay to say I was wrong about someone and that you had changed your mind after seeing them play some. Some people are just too stubborn.

You couldnt be talking about me because I'm on record as admitting JJ isn't first round talent ;) Now watch him turn around and light it up this season and I'll be wrong twice :lolol:

I disagree with you about Landry though. He played good against the Cards, a win that was very important for us reaching the playoffs. He did his job. I saw enough from that game to see all he needs is more real game experience. I don't think he played as awful as people make out in the KC game either. Cincy game was bad, poor conditions and high pressure situation, he didn't do well but he's a backup. Anyone expecting a backup to play well every time they step on the field will never be happy with the backup QB.

Hated the pick from day one. I would have loved to been wrong because another weapon is never a bad thing. Let's hope Ayers isn't the next incarnation of these types of picks. Although the 7th round is a more acceptable place to do it.

For me it was when I saw him try to block Terrell Suggs and I thought he was going to get killed.

Ayers has a chance because he is a receiver. Plus he returns punts which wasn't something Archer did in college, just KO's.

Now in no way shape or form am I trying to defend the pick of Dri Archer, but tbh there was not a whole lot there.
Players I notice that were picked after him
    PICK PLAYER
    97 Dri Archer
    103 Devonta Freeman
109 Ross Cockrell (who we now have)
118 Martavis Bryant (who we picked)

I only looked from the third where he was picked till the 5th. As always I encourage people to go and look over the players, I do not know every other teams role player, and someone else might. But in no way shape or form did we miss out on someone of note and perhaps Dri's measurables were a gamble the Steelers wanted to take a chance on.

In addition to Bryant, I was high on EJ Gaines, who started and played well as a rookie for the Rams. I think he lasted until the 6th, which made no sense to me. I expect that he will start again with Janoris Jenkins gone.

I already know your feelings on Landry, I hope your right I just don't see the required arm strength from him and don't like how he stares down his reveivers and then throws the Interceptions. We just have to disagree about him I think there are better backups out there. Let's just hope we never have to see him or we be hurting. Yes he did play okay against the Cards but that was it.
