Could Dwight Freeny fit into the mix here?

I have always liked his motor and production, I am just not so sure
he has anything left in the tank?

I don't see that happening. Good player a few years ago, but he's done.

He would contribute absolutely nothing. I'd rather have Hines Ward take the roster spot.

Because we have Harrison, I think the answer is no. I don't think we can have two 36+ year old edge guys on our roster without hurting our future at the position.

However, those writing off what he can do in a part time role need to look back at last season. As a part time player, he had 8 regular season sacks and 1 postseason sack. He can still make plays as a pass rush specialist, and someone will likely grab him to do just that. If we didn't have Harrison already, I would be all for kicking the tires on him.

My thought exactly Mac, have to generate pass rush production from the ROLB position. I hope others step up to the plate
and take control of the ROLB position.

Tyriq McCord will have to earn a spot on the practice squad. Chances of him cracking the 53-man roster are very slim. It would take injuries and an incredible performance in the limited opportunities he will receive in the pre-season. Anthony Chickillo is on the roster bubble. If they keep six OLBs, Chickillo makes it. Only five, and Travis Feeney gets the nod over Chickillo. The defensive philosophy incorporates speed more and more, as evidenced by the past few drafts, so that is why I think Feeney makes it. Chickillo's problem is he slimmed down from being a defensive end, and doesn't do anything particularly well. They are not ready to give up on Jarvis Jones, and we may see JJ motivated to earn a big free agent contract. Moats is a solid back up. James Harrison remains in terrific shape, but anyone his age can suffer an injury. Bud Dupree is obviously a starter.

I was about to say he had 8 sacks in 11 games and 3 forced fumbles... lol he is "washed up" yet had more sacks than any of our defensive players.

Was never much of a fan of what I call him "Spin Move".

Big year for Jarvis Jones. What shall we see? He is playing to advance his career. Will he step up or wilt? Glad they didn't give him the 5th year. I believe we have seen the best of him. Hopefully i'm wrong and he comes in and dominates. Just don't see it and I feel the brass doesn't either.

No because he is over the hill. He's a 4-3 end, way too old to convert to an outside backer.

Highly unlikely with the current youth movement on the defense

I guess he is worth the money the cards paid him, with sack incentives he earned 1.5 million for 1 year, he had an 870K base salary and a million in sack bonuses, broken down 200K for the first 4 sacks and 100K for every sack he had after 4 with a max of 12 sacks, the cards are talking about resigning him in this mornings sports section, but they are not hurting as much this year for an old edge rusher as they were last year, I dont see him in our future plans, or theirs, at all.....

If we're spending money on some old guys (which I'd rather not do), I'd take Anquon Boldin to round out the WR corps.

But Turtle the man just produces and has his whole career. Look at last year what 8 sacks in half a year
for vet mininium? I am just kidding with ya , I like to talk football and thought this was an area of need
the Steelers will have to address/ players step up to get where we want to be.

Freeney has always been productive I agree. I didn't think Demarcus Ware was going to do much in Denver because of age/injuries but he was a great pick up by them so Freeney could be the same I guess. I would always look to get a younger guy though, but I'm sure Freeney will be available in preseason if they feel the need to explore that option.

Freeney is going to the Bengals today for a visit. I could see him land there.

Can anyone afford to give up a roster spot for a 36 year old edge rusher who wasn't an every down player the last couple of years????
