What senior CB were they going to draft?

After W Jax was taken I would have traded down at least a couple spots.

I think Artie Burns has great top end speed but he lacks the quick burst that is more important in the NFL. W Jax is without question a more explosive athlete with a higher ceiling.

Personally I would have liked Spence with the pick. Harrison is 37 this year and will probably get the most snaps at ROLB while Jarvis will be due 8 million after next season.

Steelers could have had Spence start in 2017-18 and him be an upgrade at ROLB.

WJ III is already 24 yrs old I think, the Steelers liked Burns he has long arms and top end speed. I don't think the Steelers were going to draft a guy with drug problems, after getting burned by Martavis Bryant.

Supposedly Spence sent his last 20 drug test results to NFL teams. Idk that he is considered a "drug problem" guy anymore. A little bit of Molly didn't hurt Von Miller too badly haha

But yeah, we can't get into "we need starters now" mode during the draft. You with the guy you think will turn out to be the best player regardless of development. That's the best way to keep your team loaded with the best talent. Ben may play at a high level until he's 40. Maybe he won't who knows, but putting a timeline on him and drafting players accordingly is a mistake. We could get lucky like GB or Indy and replace him with another stud. Then we'd look ridiculous drafting around Ben when we could have had better players around the new guy

I had some interest in Spence but it's too risky to spend a high draft choice on him, he gets the big contract what if he has a relapse.

I'm with you. Had he fallen to us in the second I'd have taken him in a heartbeat, but not in the first. Too risky for the first round.

I disagree that Spence is a risk. He watched the national
championship while crying like a little *****. He knows he messed up.

At least he has already experienced drugs and the nightlife that all NFL rookies will be tempted by.

So... if Senquez steps up and earns a spot outside then Artie Burns could be the 4th CB next year and the Steelers will be starting Moats with no depth at ROLB.

I was just reading Lolley's blog. Things could be much better than PFF thinks.

"Scout’s Inc., by the way, had Burns rated as their 31st best player in this draft with a grade of 88.
Eli Apple, the first corner taken, had an 89 grade. Jackson had a 90 grade.

"So at least one scouting agency didn’t think Burns was a reach."

The Terrible Podcast guys said that Tomlin is aiming to play more man coverage. Burns will be a major contributing factor in that.

I want more man coverage. It can only help us against the elite QB's of the league.

Colbert seems to have gone above and beyond this off-season in his research of cornerbacks and safeties. I trust his research; He was feeling some heat about the terrible secondaries he's put together the last few years and I think he focused on getting it right. And I think he got it right. When your on the possible hot seat, you tend to get things done better.

I saw Reese of the Giants being on the hot, hot seat this off-season and he came out swinging in free agency and addressed his secondary issues as well.

These are two GM's who've been successful in the past and a little push seems to have done both of them some good.

Yes, I think playing so much zone against all of these quick read passing offenses allows teams to keep drives alive and wear the defense down..

Now isn't that a refreshing thought! More 3 and out drives for our opponents means more touches then for Ben,Bell & Brown.

    Killer "B"s
