I read an article where it was stated the steelers wanted Burns all along and publicly gushed about Jackson lll to throw off the Bengals who they knew would take a CB early in the draft ......

The Steelers called Artie while the Bengals were on the clock!!! He thought at first it was the Bengals calling, after the Bengals made their pick the war room cameras showed Tomlin and others smiling and high fiving as they quickly made the pick they wanted all along!!!!

It now seems the Bengals stole nothing!!!!

Was the article in some sort of antiquated print form such as a newspaper, magazine or maybe ink splashed upon papyrus from a quill of sorts or, perhaps, there is a link that the rest of us can reference?

    Thanks for the link.

Hmm . . . not sure what to believe here. Seems like a nice way to save face after delivering a (by all accounts) poorly rated draft. No direct quotes from anybody involved anywhere near the organization. Sounds like a lot of optimistic speculation.

On the other hand, we couldn't have submitted our draft card any faster and our staff did seem quite pleased with themselves.

    Who knows . . .

Regardless if it was a smokescreen or not, I guess we will have to trust whatever Gilbert's decisions are.

Realistically, behindthesteelcurtain.com has a headline about Tomlin's decision to select Artie.

Considering they selected Davis in rd 2 with "better safeties" on the board still, is it really so hard to believe they liked Burns better then Jackson?

Charlie Casserly had Burns rated higher than WJax3 as well. I'm willing to believe he and the Steelers front office know better than me.

Wj3 is a great corner and would've been for us. We got Burns and we got to play the hand we were dealt

I'd like to know these "better safeties" that were still on the board? Vonn Bell? He's smaller and slower. Davis is bigger and faster with a lot of upside.

Why does Perry Biggerstaff need to save face? He wrote the article.

I agree with you that people are making too much of the conspiracy angle.

Burns and Jackson are both large and athletic corners who are a bit raw. Who is to say which the Steelers liked over the other?

And if they didn't want Burns they could have drafted another player at that position it didn't have to be a corner. ROLB is a need and several were available. NT is a need and several were available. Etc.

Anyways what really caught my eye was "Publicly it was Jackson who received all the attention and praise while privately the Steelers had Artie Burns ranked above him."

It's almost as if the Steelers coaches conceal their true motives and can't be held as credible sources at face value. :hehehe:

Thorn, sometimes it's best to just say  and move on. When someone wants to argue the "facts" of their own fantasy, the best you can do is :frustrated:

    Yep.

The article is speculative, but no more than the claims we were outdone by Cincinnati. And slightly better-evidenced.
