Yep. I remember that. It is probably one reason so many on this board think he is good.

Raiders always play the Steelers tough. This year it was a 38-35 nail biter.

Raiders are more of a threat, IMO than the Broncos. The AFC West is their division for the taking... if they can get by the Chiefs. Raiders' O is much better than the Chiefs O.

Can't we just talk Heath in to coming back and being Ben's backup and nothing else? A guy can dream I guess. LOL!

I think the Raiders will continue to be a fringe team. They have great talent at some spots and none at others.

I really don't get their draft. Unless Karl Joseph plays like Ed Reed they really screwed themselves this year. Their RBs are Latavius Murray and Taiwan Jones and they don't grab Henry in the second I don't get it.

Seems like teams are outsmarting themselves every year see: Cowboys, Dallas.

Why they drafted Jaylon Smith I don't know. I guess they enjoy ILBs who are riddles with injuries. Sean Lee + Jaylon Smith haha.

He can throw a quick slant and actually make it a catchable ball, meanwhile Vick with all his speed and athletic ability couldnt make the easiest throw in football. It's that simple.

If you read my above posts I acknowledge Vick's inaccuracy and inability to hit the slant SPECIFICALLY.

    Vick's career record 61-51 133 TDs 88 INTs 80 rating

    Grad's career record 6-14 21 TDs 24 INTs 65 rating

    It's that simple.

Morris, when Vick walks, he hurts himself now.
He can't move anymore. The numbers you show are based on a career; But in right now time, in this moment, he can't play any more and Grad's can. It's that simple my friend. I"m not by any means saying Grad's is great because frankly I was hoping to sign Hoyer. I hope someone else becomes available because Grad's is a "C" grade backup at best.

I wish Kurt Warner would come out of retirement to be Ben's backup. LOL.

Vick is built of glass. His passing numbers with the Steelers are EXACTLY on par with his career though.

It's not like Vick all of a sudden lost accuracy... he never had it.

Landry is the 2nd best QB on the roster. I really don't care much who the 3rd QB on the roster is other than I agree Hoyer would have challenged for the #2 spot as would a bunch of other QBs.

It blows my mind that anyone could choose Gradkowski over Vick for any reason other than possibly durability and Gradkowski was out all last year besides so hardly an ironman.

Do we have to do the Vick thing again?
Most everyone here hates Vick. Nothing good can come from discussing this guy.

Some of you newer guys need to try the search feature. Some of these topics have been discussed to death.

The QB backups for us is still week spot with our team. We will be on pins and needles every time Ben gets sacked for fear of him having to miss games. I have no faith in Landry Jones or Grat. Even though Jones played okay the one game last year but he showed his real colors in the important game against Cincy. Ben had to come back injured with basically one arm in relieve to get Jones out.

If Ben goes down for more then a game, we will be hurting with either backup.

I'm not discussing Vick. I am addressing the departure from reality required to say that Gradkowski is a better QB than any other QB.

Steelers have no depth at QB. Nothing good will come of Gradkowski being forced into play time.

He has to sign with Pitt, nobody else wants him, probably the worst backup QB in the league in my opinion.........

They had a chance to draft Cody Kessler and bring him along slowly instead the Browns got him a couple picks later

What about the departure from reality in which you are discussing Vick and even though you acknowledged his failing which make him a poor fit for the Steelers you are saying he would have been a better signing than Gradkowski even though he at least knows the system, can make the necessary throws and has the confidence of his teammates.

I don't think anyone is saying Grad I'd the answer but he isn't a bad option to have.

Steelers needed all their picks to address the depth issues. Backup QBs should be veterans who can steal a game here and there.

20 of the top 25 passers last year were 1st round picks. Brees, Wilson, Brady are all great players who were not firsts but they are the exceptions to the rule.

Any QB that shows flashes of being a franchise player will be reached for.

Steelers never would have gotten Roethlisberger if Manning and Rivers weren't in the same draft.

Getting a franchise QB is extremely hard.

Gradkowski has the confidence of his teammates?! Source needed.

Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel each have career passer ratings 10 points higher than Grad.

Vick is a better QB than Gradkowski.

If someone was to make the argument that Vick is the worst option for backup QB because he can't start 2 games in a row without injury that's fine by me.

What is not OK is to pretend Grad is better than Vick.

He's the very worst option, he appeared in 1 game in 2014, had 2 passing attempts for minus 2 yards, he has been on 6 teams, and was released by all of them but us, at least jones won two games for us in relief, gradkowski has done nothing since he's been here and will be a disaster if they start him over LJones in a relief or starting roll, even the bungles had enough brains to cut him after 2 years of bad relief games....

If you look at team specific situations where the player fits the scheme then yes for the Steelers Gradkowski is better than Vick. He can work the short passing game, he can hit Bell in the flat, he can make the throws needed to move the ball. If it was a west coast offense or a chip kelly offense than no Gradkowski would not be as good a fit as a mobile QB like Vick.

I tried to make this argument early on when Vick was signed. Vick has been a superior passing quarterback to Gradkowski his whole career. That doesn't even include his running that he was known for in his prime. I had all kinds of stats and facts to back it up and I got ridiculed for it.

I understand Vick is a far different style of QB than Ben, but that doesn't make Grad a better QB. Vick is done, but Grad never had it. I sincerely hope Jones plays well enough to lock down the #2 job. Otherwise we aren't in any better position at back up QB than we were last year

Who gives a **** what Vicks carer stats are. We're talking about Vick of today and after what we saw last year from him, it is mind boggling to think that Grad isnt a better option. Tebow is a better option!

Vick's numbers since 2011 are atrocious. Good riddance, bye bye, dont bother writing.

You two should probably let the front office know this since it is apparent they don't know and let Vick go and resigned the guy who doesn't have it.

Hey, it's just my opinion. I don't think I know better than the FO. I would've preferred Vick to Grad. Actually I probably would've preferred almost anyone else to Grad. He wasn't good when times were good, idk why he becomes a good option for us as an aging vet coming off a fairly serious injury. The steelers think differently than me. I'm fine with it.

He's cheap tho and knows the offense. I just think he's a bad option as a back up. Fine as a #3 for the price. I just hope Jones takes another step forward like he did last season and Grad is just insurance for Jones. I know back up QB is a weird position to gripe about, but if grad ever trots on the field for an injured Ben, I'm not gonna feel good at all.

I can understand you feeling that way when we first signed Vick (even know I thought he was done) but after seeing him perform, I just don't see how you can feel that way anymore. Until we see Grad put on the same pitiful display, its just not accurate to say he is a worse option. I've never seen Grad play that poorly. I've rarely seen any QB play that poorly.

Either way, we're talking about 2 guys whose best days are 5+ years in the past. I don't know if there was a deal available with Hoyer, but he signed with the Bears for 1 year, $2 million. I would have topped that without blinking an eye.
