I don't see Oakland being the landing spot since they signed Sean Smith away from KC. Our best hope is that a CB needy team, maybe Tampa Bay, Miami, etc (I don't know their cap situations though) lands him and that pushes a top CB off the need list for the upcoming draft. That would just give us more of a chance at one of the top CBs falling to 25.

Sean Smith was a good move for Oakland. Norman would make the Raiders the division favorite. Don't discount them. Unfortunately, they've done everything right the past couple of seasons.

How to properly dream about Josh Norman:

    1. Extend Timmons with an additional 2 years. Convert his base salary this year to a signing bonus.
    2016 : 1.0 + 9.3 = 10.3 (savings of ~5 million in cap space)
    2017 : 4.0 + 2.9 = 6.9
    2018 : 4.0 + 2.9 = 6.9

    2. Restructure Ben. Take 10 million of his 17.75 base salary and convert to signing bonus. This saves 7.5 million this year. While adding 2.5 per increase in cap in 2017, 18, 19. Restructures!!!! THE SKY IS FALLING!!! Face it... this is what we do. We push in to the future to WIN NOW.

    3. New Contract for Decastro. Using Mike Iupati's 5 year / 40 million deal as the baseline (22.5 guaranteed/6 million Bonus).
New Contract: 5 years / 40 Million / 20 Guaranteed (10 million Bonus). Saves about 3 million in cap space.

    4. Cut Suisham Post June 1. Saves about ~2.5 million

There you go.... we just created 18 million in cap space

Additional Options available if additional needs for space:
    - Restructures for Pouncey and/or Heyward (could create upwards of 7 million in space, each)
    - Cutting Moats or Jarvis (~1.5 each)
    - Cutting Spaeth (1 million)
    - Cutting Adams (800k)
    - Cutting Shamarko (675k)

He'll be 29 by season end, but, yeah, in a heartbeat.

It would take a cap miracle though.

I know we wont pay the kind of money his agent is looking for, thats why the panthers released him after talking to his agent, the panthers found him in the 5th round and got him for cheap for 4 years, so they made the right move in releasing him in my opinion, so the only teams that can afford him now are the ones with a lot of cap space.......

Yeah, I wish we could find good corners late in drafts. But alas, that's not Colbert's thing. He finds WR late in drafts. :)

If Norman goes for the straight money grab from the 49ers, I"m going to laugh because by week# 7, he'll be out for the season from injury from trying to cover 3 guys in the secondary at once.

I shake my head at guys who go for the straight money grab. He goes to the 49ers, he quickly becomes Mr. Irrelevant.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. If he wants a payday only, the Bay area is his most logical choice, either team out there has a ton of cap room. If he really wants to compete for a SB how much of a discount is he willing to take to go to a team that has some cap space, but isn't willing to break the bank to have him.

Carolina wasn't going to mortgage their future for one player. I like the move by Carolina. I can't imagine when it is all said and done the Steelers are even close to getting his services due to the money. I don't see the Steelers making an all in move to get him. Steelers have some big time players coming up on contract years - Brown, Bell, DeCastro... Signing Norman might cost the Steelers one or more of their current players.

Would love to have him but don't see how it works out for the Steelers.

Well, I'm hearing rumblings about how we may move Decastro. So much so that they are saying don't be surprised if we take a guy in the third round this draft to move DeCastro. We have the best O-line coach in the game right now and I could see the thinking in moving Decastro and getting another guy and keeping things cheaper on that O-line.

****Also heard a rumor on the radio this morning about the Chiefs trading Jamaal Charles to the Cowboys on draft day. If the Cowboys don't take Elliot, then that may make a lot of sense for them.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Steelers won't pursue free agent Josh Norman.

Norman has been credibly linked to the Steelers, but GM Kevin Colbert has typically-little cap room. The Steelers have an enormous need at cornerback, so it certainly isn't about Norman's playing fit. It's down to financials.

Decastro will stay right here, looking at the top 10 guard, 5 year contracts they range from 38 to 36 mill to 40 mill the top contract is 58 but thats the only one out of the 36 to 40 mill range, so I can see decass in the 40 45 mill range or a mill or two less, so, if they let him go because they dont want to pay market value they need their heads examined.....

They said the same thing about Carolina when they pulled the tag from Norman. Anything can happen.

I can almost guarantee we will not sign him. If I was aggressive I would restructure everyone, buy out norman, and then bench him like boykin lol.
